Is he the best we can do? I'm hearing comments that his "hang time" sucks...... and I tend to agree.

Our special team is not so special. Coach Kotwicka? Do we need a better coach?

Shoulda, coulda, woulda

Way has done well in the past, he's a keeper unlike another kicker we have. Do we have a Special Teams coach?

Is this serious?????

Tress Way is a VERY good punter. He was tied for #1 in the NFL in avg punting yards. Watch the replay. Landry went UNTOUCHED to the endzone. The punter's "hang time" had nothing to do with that one.

Our poor coverage has been an issue for some time. Our punter is NOT the issue.

Can someone do a compare stat on "hang time" around the league?

This is absolutely correct.

Hang time is relative to the situation. If you're punting to the returner with a full field you want to give your coverage team at least 4 seconds of hang time but 4.5 to 5 is ideal. Obviously things like pooch punting and directional punting alter the average hang time. The easy fix for Tress Way is to kick the ball out of bounds. That way it can't be returned.

The Special Teams coach needs to do a much better job with his group ...

if this unit does not show a dramatic improvement this guy is going to lose his job before the bye week ...

Way is a good punter, but it did look like he outkicked his coverage on that play with not enough hang time. My bet would be that the coaches are working with him on that this week.

Tress took complete responsibility for that touchdown. He was anticipating a heavy rush, figuring that late in the game Miami would try a block, and decided to attempt to "flip the field"... intending to rip a monster punt, including hang time... however, he did not get the ball correctly off his foot, resulting in a shallow, if very deep punt and, yes, not enough hang time. In addition, Miami did not rush, but dropped off to set up a return... Landry got the ball with no Redskins around him, had plenty of time to survey the field, and ripped off the middle return.

Per Way... no hang time, out kicked coverage... bad result.
