I know we loathe the Pukes but this kid has good genes. His dad Jim sacked Joe Thiesman 5x in one game.

Why was he not drafted? You tell me. Here is a comparison:

Wow.
That's really interesting. He's been really good this preseason, and he wasn't bad in live action last season. I'm hoping he makes the roster.
He was projected as a 5-6 rounder. Here's his draft profile that year from NFL.com:
Strengths Good body length and size-speed ratio. Flashes some quickness and shock in his hands to swat and control blockers. Football smart. Solid instincts and overall sack production. Has NFL pedigree. Has a 36-inch vertical jump and recorded a 6.97-second 3-cone drill, second-best among defensive lineman at the combine.
Weaknesses Needs more time in the weight room, as evidenced by 18 bench press reps at the combine, and has a very underdeveloped lower body. Tight hips. Has been slowed by injuries throughout his career and it has affected his physical development. Lacks the base strength to set the edge. Gets rooted out of the hole vs. the double team. Cannot drop his hips and turn the corner. Very inconsistent effort -- average competitiveness and desire.
Sounds to me like he just wasn't a good combine/numbers guy.

Which tells us that combine stats are only an assessment tool..........not the ONLY assessment tool.

Interesting about the "Cannot drop his hips and turn the corner" comment as the guys on CSN were actually praising him for how he can drop so low and sweep around defenders to get pressure on the QB. He has had 2 years to work on this since the combine, but as long as he is healthy, I think he has a good ceiling for improvement.

Interesting report, anybody that got 21 sacks in the season review as having 'average competitiveness and desire' sounds like he didn't like his coaches or something along those lines - you don't get 21 sacks without desire, the man you line up against suffered from them.

I think he slipped because of concerns about being an every down player and whether he could pass rush against better competition with his measurables. If I recall, I don't think he had a great senior season either. There's a lot of guys who get drafted high who can't play the run. Vic Beasley comes to mind. Not saying Jeffcoat has Beasley's burst, because he doesn't, but he can be a good situational pass rusher. Probably a better pass rusher than Trent at the moment based on his production in limited snaps last year.

Players with good baseline talent tend to learn and get better, stronger year by year.
I have great hopes for Jeffcoat.
