Just heard it on 980. Gruden named him the starter for the entire season. I'll post more quotes when I get to listen to the rest of the presser with Gruden.

“Kirk Cousins will be the starter for 2015, moving forward,” Gruden said. “It’s Kirk’s team.”

Wow. Things moving quickly.

I hope Kirk comes in and succeeds. If he doesn't we're pretty much screwed and we'll be drafting another QB.

As for Griffin I still believe he can play and he'll find a home next year, but he's done here.

Gruden can say Griffin a Redskin and all that crap. Problem is that 16 million dollar option the Skins picked up. Will stop Griffin from ever playing a snap for the Skins again.

YAAY.....we're the most dysfunctional team in NFL. According to some. NO were are getting better with Scot as GM.

RGIII era officially over in Washington D.C.
Robert Griffin III has been benched.
Like sands through the hourglass, so are the Days of Our Lives. Beset by never-ending drama and an inability to stay at 100 percent, RGIII has met his predictable end for the league's most dysfunctional franchise. It's possible he won't even be the first man off the bench, with vanilla coach Jay Gruden preferring Colt McCoy's pop-gun skill-set to RGIII's unrefined dual-threat aesthetic. Much of Griffin's issues are his own doing, but he's received zero help from a franchise that's offered bafflingly little support since making him a centerpiece three years ago. A trade or release is best for all parties involved, and the sooner, the better.

Very odd that Griffin got all of the work with the 1's leading up to the Ravens game. Guess those reports about Cousins looking up and down in practice weren't accurate. Gruden has said based off of everything including the OTA's, practices, and preseason (as well as film), Cousins had the job hands down.

Gruden is behaving like the HC should and giving Cousins a boost to bolster the confidence ...

all is good ... there should be no doubt in anyone's mind (except maybe the blind Cousins supporters) that Cousins will be just as quickly benched if he does not play well

Gruden also indicated that he won't have Cousins out there "looking over his shoulder" every game, so it doesn't appear like there's going to be a QB carousel, and that they are going give Cousins every opportunity this year.

Yea I heard that too...which makes Gruden look kinda of incompetent in saying that Robert was/is our starter because he's been the best in OTA's and practice. Clearly Gruden was toooting the company line. Glad it's over Cousins deserves his uninterupted shot.

Not true.

Gruden said he won't have Cousins out there "looking over his shoulder" every game. They are going to give him every chance to succeed this year, just like Griffin got in 2013. This is Kirk's team now.

This organization makes me sick. Year in, year out we are the laughing stock of the league. What an absolute joke we are. Lets go Kirk I guess!

Or it makes Snyder look like the idiot he is for not listening to his football people.

Obviously hoping that Kirk succeeds, and I think it's important to stick with it and see how he does for an extended period of time. He's a better fit for this offense and has shown flashes of being really good, now it's about putting it all together.

The whole RG3 situation is just depressing. In no universe did I want to endure yet another year of the ridiculous drama, will-he or won't-he type of situation we've gone through the last couple of years. But it's just crazy how fast things fell apart. I mean think about this, almost three years ago to the day we were getting ready for his debut against NO. I remember how excited the fan base was going into that, and the frenzy it was after we went into the Super Dome and dropped 40 in a W on opening day. Then just that whole season, even when we were struggling at 3-6, it was just fun to watch. Man, that feels like an absolute eternity ago.

I think moving on is definitely the right thing to do, it's just sad to me to see how quickly everything devolved. We have no idea how RG3's career would've gone if he never got hurt in that first year. The league certainly could've caught up to him, and I'm sure he would've had his struggles. But I feel pretty confident that had that not happened, we wouldn't be in a spot where 3 seasons into his career with the Redskins it's all but over. The injury started the ball rolling, and there's been plenty of blame to go around since (with much rightly falling on him), but this is just not the trajectory I envisioned. Oh well.

Good! Now Kirk has to be smart with football and OL needs to open some running holes for Jones and Morris. I'd like to see Jones get some starting reps to see if he can get going faster the Morris. Hopefully Scot can find us a blocking tight end also to help get the run game going.

I totally agree. I think the injuries got in his head, and he never fully trusted his O-line (not that the injuries were their fault) after that. What might have been. Sigh.

Agreed, I think he grew some balls martching out on the field to give harbaugh a ration of *sh$t*. He seems different after that, like that was his tipping point. He is acting like a head coach and not someone that is just filling in for the real dude. The team will pick up on that and respond.
Can't agree with the 'blind Cousins supporters' bit, I see Gruden 100% behind him and giving him the keys to the car for the season.

I like how Gruden is handling all this and am hopeful that he will continue to be very supportive of his players including all 3 QBs ...

Gruden understands how to make things work here and he will have whomever is playing QB for the Redskins prepared to win each game

for now that is Kirk Cousins and hopefully he grabs this opportunity and makes the most of it

I think a strong run game and a strong run defense will go a long way to making a QB look good in the NFL

Well I guess the speculation phase is finally over.

I'm on board with this. Robert faced his share of adversity, some of it seemingly unfair, but no one can say that he didn't get a chance to prove himself with this team. If the coaches and especially McCloughan now think that we are better off moving on, after all of the space they've given him, then I'm at peace with their call. On the day we release or trade RGIII, I'll shed a tear for the great things he did in 2012 and for what could have been. And I'll always remember him fondly, especially as the years wear on I'm sure.

In the meantime, with all the ups and downs out of the way, I'm excited for the season. Godspeed to Captain Kirk as he gets his chance. I'll be cheering for him every week.

The owner could no longer ignore what is reality. The reality is the Robert just isn't that good of a quarterback. I don't think Mike Shanahan ever wanted to draft RG, but that was Snyder's guy and it shows. I was all in for RGIII until he became RGme as I thought he was the long lost franchise QB that I have never experienced in my lifetime. I don't think its any coincidence that Robert made bad decisions off the field the same way he did on the field. "All in for week one, I'm the best QB in the league," and just paltry QB play for a guy going into his fourth year. I am done with him and I wish him the best. Onward to Captain Kirk!
