Report: Cousins will start week 1, possibly more

A TON of news coming out that Cousins is starting week one and going forward, and that was the plan. Cannot find the link now, but there was a tweet from a source close to Redskins GM reporting that Scott is done with Griffin and it's time to change the culture.

That said, we would like to think that once he and the Redskins go their separate ways, he'll end up in Philadelphia with Chip Kelly where he'll haunt Washington for years to come.

That's definitely a concern.

If RGIII is out in Washington, I don't see him going to Philly. They have Sam Bradford who is a far better quarterback when healthy. Why would Kelly take on another injury prone quarterback? I just don't see that happening.

Scot has said that he liked Cousins coming out of college. The writing in on the wall....

Don't be surprised if Bob3 is releases or cut next week or the following. Scot is THE MAN here now and he has convinced little man Danny that he/Scot knows what he is doing to lead this team as the GM.

I hope they send Griffin packing. No more placating. No more "will he play next week?" No more "Has his injury healed? Will he be 100%?" He hasn't been 100% since December 2012. Whomever they trade him to will have him as a back-up. He's simply not an NFL caliber QB. He never really was. That gimmick offense of 2012 was a one-season show. If he ever gets any playing time, he'll get injured and finally get a career-ending injury.

I don't know if KC is the long-term QB, but I think he's a better prospect than Griffin by a mile. I think he and McCoy can learn and progress. They have fundamentals that Griffin never had. Griffin was a very good college QB, in a college run-option offense. This isn't Baylor or the Big 12. He'll be back in Baylor as an assistant.

It shouldn't be.

No way he beats out a healthy Bradford.

And there's no way he's a legitimate threat at the QB position at this point.

the only guys that want Griffin to go to Philly and do well are the media who don't have a clue ...

these are the same idiots that have been writing about how bad Griffin has been playing here

btw - I just watched the Ravens game in slo mo and we have a legit QB in McCoy, this kid is a fighter - Cousins is just Cousins

It has been reported that Kirk Cousins could emerge as the Redskins' starting quarterback. With Robert Griffin III sidelined with a concussion, Cousins received the starting nod for the Redskins' third preseason game against the Ravens.

Almost immediately, Cousins reminded folks that there's a reason why he's been a backup quarterback since entering the league in 2012, tossing an awful interception to Terrell Suggs.

This was not a good throw ... Oh really ...

I think Cousins had a fine first start and McCoy had a great night also, we have two quarterbacks that can run the offense. It is time to cut the other quarterback who is unable to function in the offense. The Redskins are going to have to make some difficult choices trimming the roster keepng a non functional QB like Griffin doesn't make sense when the roster spot could be used for a special teams contributor.

If Griffins prospers with another team I will be surprised and delighted for him. I am confident he did his best to learn Gruden's WCO but he isn't suited for the assignment. It is time for the Redskins to thank him for his contributions and effort, wish him well to go and invest their time developing Kirk and Colt.

it looks like Kirk won the Colt versus Kirk battle but with so much time squandered on Griffin I wonder if Colt and Kirk got enough reps to adequately make their case. Both of them dwarf Griffin in the system but I would have liked to see a longer competition prior to the start of the season. It just feels Griffin has been under foot and may have cost McCoy the chance to outshine Cousins. I like Cousins but I like McCoy also and didn't get to see him with the ones like we finally did with Cousins tonight.

I feel like Cousins has more upside, but McCoy is a better game manager. Colt doesn't seem to get rattled and just does his job. He reminds me a little of Brunell when he was healthy.

Breaking NEWS: Just announced on ESPN that the Captain will indeed be our starter for Game 1. What drama lies ahead?

Our bashing of the media is just a joke. The media is not the problem. Everything Jason Reid, Chris Russell, etc; have been reporting for the past year about this situation has basically been proven true. These guys aren't pulling stuff out of their ***. They're relaying stories they've been told - off the record - from people they talk to with the team.

I guarantee you that within three months of RGIII leaving town the real facts about what has gone on behind the scenes will come out and confirm everything we've been worried about.

Complaining about media coverage does not change the facts that Snyder has mandated that RGIII be the starter earlier this year. This was not the coaches' decision. A lot of players haven't been happy about it.

And saying that the media wants to encourage the dysfunction is nonsense. Like EB on the Sports Junkies pointed out, their ratings in 2012 when the team was in that playoff run were off the charts. When the team is sucking, nobody wants to tune in.

BTW I hate that "possibly more" caveat. If they're going to start Cousins, McCoy, Griffin or whomever, let's start that guy and do what we can to help him be successful.

Can I add one comment though? One thing I don't like from some of the media - mostly some of the radio guys - and some fans is a certain amount of glee that Griffin may be done.

I honestly like Griffin. He's had some missteps here, but for the most part I think he's seemed like a good dude. He also gave everything for this team and put his body on the line repeatedly. What he did in 2012 was just amazing. I feel bad for him that things haven't worked out over the past three years.

Agreed. I hope he finds success somewhere else. He seems like a good kid put in an impossible situation through no fault of his own. He made some mistakes in handling the media but he is still young. I want him gone just because I cannot take the drama any more. If the team is bad let them be anonymously bad. Griff has made about 25 million so he should be all set no matter what happens. It is just a shame that The Danny had to break him.

There seems to be a lot more fans who are pissed that it's seemingly over. The Cousins hate train has officially started for some people.

Hmm, I don't see that at all. I agree with Riggo here. Seems like a lot more glee in favor of RGIII being ridden out of town on a rail than the team playing behind a more effective QB.

Even as an "I'm with Griff" fan I'm not about to "hate" on Kirk.
Personally I was hoping for 5 games regular season to fairly judge Rgiii.. now that's on for Kirk. Unfortunately neither are Stafford like, so when the ints and losses come, so will the rants for the backups.. in no particular order.

Griffin did not get close to making it obvious that he should be the starting QB in game 1 and that really bothered me ...

that said, I'm very hopeful that the Redskins win each and every game they play no matter who is the starting QB

Cousins has looked like the best guy for the offense at this time, so I hope he plays well enough to keep that position but I also hope that whomever makes decisions here will aways put the guys on the field that give this franchise the best chance at success

fans that don't like or hate the starting QB are just as bad as fair weather fans

Should have been listening to 980 this morning.

Although there was one guy who began singing, "It's a beautiful morning" over and over after hearing the reports that Griffin may be cut. That was a bit much.
