We will have to see Cousins in a several regular games to see if he's improved. Unless Griffin makes a startling turnabout we'll be seeing Cousins start in September and have some idea by November if he progressing over the hump. I think he can do it, not be great on this 2015 team but an adequate starter with better than a 1 TD to 1 INT ratio. Remember a QB qualifies for the all time top 50 with a 1.35 TDs to 1 INT ratio so Cousins needs a 30% increase to be all time top 50.

With Robert ineligible tomorrow against Baltimore the year of Kirk might be starting. Kirk had a chance to runaway with the job last season and couldn't pull if off but he's going to get another chance starting Saturday.

he also needs 1500 attempts. It would take about four seasons for him to sniff that list.

Plus, saying he just needs to improve his interception rate by 30% is understating the case. I like Cousins as much as anyone on this board, but let's see him take the field and prove that he's improving before we start projecting him among the all-time greats. INTs have been a big problem for him his whole NFL career so far. Not that he can't overcome it, but it's no simple matter.
That said, I'm
really looking forward to his performances in the last two preseason games and, it sounds like, at least week one of the regular season, if not more. Go Captain Kirk!

If he proves himself to be a better starter than RG than thats the answer. He didn't last year and his stats from the last 2 years are worse than RG. So RG is a better qb but this system is closer to Kirks traits and he doesn't get hurt.

it's relatively simple for Cousins to show that he's better than Griffin - at this time Griffin is not playing very well at all
Griffin is not the 'starting QB' because he's better than Cousins - someone above the HC is making that happen
I hope that Cousins plays great but, so far, he's just been a good back-up QB - he has a long way to go to be a good NFL QB
I'm just pointing out that "better than RG3" is not a very high bar at this time

I think he'll do fine if he doesn't put too much pressure on himself. He can't carry the team so they shouldn't make him pass 40+ times like last season. We have a better running game and defense this year so I think if the only ask Kirk to throw it 30-35 per game and commit to the run they can win 6-8 games this year and that would be a major improvement.

I think that any of the 3 QBs could end up with a 6 to 8 win season - the only question is can Cousins become a decent starting QB
and
just maybe, Griffin can get some form of revenge ...
For now, Griffin remains sidelined with that concussion, but his future beyond that is anyone's guess. That said, we would like to think that once he and the Redskins go their separate ways, he'll end up in Philadelphia with Chip Kelly where he'll haunt Washington for years to come.
it would be kind of appropriate for a QB that some here predict could never make it in the NFL ...

And Griffin would do what with the Eagles? No way in hell he beats out a healthy Bradford or Sanchez (don't know how many years Sanchez has left with the Eagles).
With regards to Cousins, Gruden has said that he has improved on cutting down his INT's, and that he's noticed it all training camp. So that is a sign of progress. And he hasn't thrown one in the preseason yet, so there's that.

Kirk has thrown a plethora of picks in TC.. blatant bad reads too..
Bradford has looked mediocre and butt fumble is by far the worst QB on that Roster- Tebow included!!

Well it looks like Kirk is going to get a chance the claim the job this season. Even Daniel Snyder has probably seen enough of Griffin, maybe now Snyder will let Cousins play long enough to claim the job.

I hope it is now Kirk's job to win ... that it is there for the taking ... that he is not just a place holder.
I suspect Jay will feel he can call on his entire playbook.
I think Kirk can be real good if our defense and special teams can make 24 to 31 points hold up. Needing to score more will compromise the offense and make us one dimensional and very few QBs have the talent to overcome that. I think that is when Kirk has turned into a pick machine - when he's needed to do too much in an effort to pull out a miracle win.

Check out the pump fake which makes the corner bite and frees the WR for the TD ...

followed by perhaps the gutsiest call Kyle ever made.

Gimmie summa dish.

I'd love for Cousins to prove that he's a lot better than we've seen ... I'm just not very encouraged that he will be able to do that
I hope that he can help the offense here until Scot can build a great O line and find a starting QB to play behind it
to be clear - I hope that Cousins shows that he's a lot better QB than we've seen and that the coaches and players give him all the support he needs to succeed
I want him to do well here I just don't see him as being able to lift his game that much

Cousins and McCoy has way better command of the team. Better reads of progression. Better reads on the D and how to call the change of protection.
Bob3 is weak at all of these skill. Bah bye Bob.

Key stat from Ravens game - As per Gruden, NO QB sacks. This is a big deal given what we have seen prior. Isn't this a result of improved QB play?

Almost certainly. I saw a number of plays where I was certain RGIII would have had a lot of trouble. Both Cousins and McCoy have a much more natural feel for the pocket. Both made their reads, got rid of the ball, and protected themselves from hits. RGIII plays fearlessly but also allows himself to get hit about twice as much as he needs to (if not more).

HOPEFULLY he does not do too much of this ...
It has been reported that Kirk Cousins could emerge as the Redskins' starting quarterback. With Robert Griffin III sidelined with a concussion, Cousins received the starting nod for the Redskins' third preseason game against the Ravens.
Almost immediately, Cousins reminded folks that there's a reason why he's been a backup quarterback since entering the league in 2012, tossing an awful interception to Terrell Suggs.
This was not a good throw.
c'mon Kirk - this is your chance to show that you're more than just a good backup QB
otoh - loved the showing from McCoy - he's a keeper

And on his interception.....that was a quick drop 1 read pass...the RT didn't do his job in cutting Suggs and getting his hands down...

You're spot on, it all happened in a few milliseconds, look downfield, turn and pass in one motion - Suggs must have spotted something to be where he was. That was a helluva play on his part. I don't put that one on Kirk, it was a 'holy *sh$t*' moment over in an instant.
The fumbled exchange is expected from lack of practice with the 1st team.
Those 2 mistakes didn't faze him, the 2 minute drill he executed was a thing of beauty.

^^ that is completely false - Cousins made a bad throw - and he did it again later and got away with not making a second interception ...
it's OK - the guy just needs to stop doing it or we'll see McCoy .. I love it, Cousins stops turning it over or he becomes the backup ..again

I think we should all just let it play out. Right now emotions are kind of high yet the season has not started yet.
Kirk looked good at times. However he only looked good towards the end of the first half when the Ravens transitioned to the second team defense. Kirk threw an interception in his first play. Then he got bailed out on his TD reception with a botched interception.
Ill say this though. Kirk did seem to bounce back from a bad start and put in a solid effort. He got rid of the ball quickly and was decisive.
Mccoy looked good as well but we are talking about preseason against 2nd and 3rd string players.
Lets all calm down and let things play out.

Cousins had no run game...at ALL. And the average starting field position was something like our own 16 yard line. Remember how he was getting destroyed for the Philadelphia game last year for throwing three straight incompletions when the game was on the line? Look what he did in the 2 minute drill. That was progress. Glad to see it. Plus, he settled down and didn't let the interception rattle him. QB's are going to throw picks. As long as Cousins continues to do what he did in the Ravens game, the picks won't be that much of an issue.
McCoy is the perfect backup.
