Just kidding.
“You know what, we’re not gonna be the best team out there this year,” McCloughan told Jim Miller and Pat Kirwan. “But the one thing that I emphasized — and I told them in the opening meeting — was listen, I want us to compete every day: on the field and off the field. Find a way to make yourself a better player, and a better person. And I think we’ve done that so far. We’ve got a ways to go, but we’re going in the right direction. We’re taking small steps; we’re going in the right direction.”
http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/dc-s ... s-chances/I mean, damn, Scot. I really admire and appreciate the honesty, and I know he's just saying what we're pretty much all thinking already. But its kind of a tradition around these parts to wait until at least week 3 to admit that we're going to be horrible this year.

Pre-season power rankings from Scout.com today:
http://www.scout.com/nfl/story/1572863- ... r-rankings32. Washington Redskins
This is a make or break season for Robert Griffin, III. Can he return to his rookie form? It’s imperative that he makes big strides if this franchise is to make a push to the playoffs. RG3 has a good running game behind him, led by the underrated Alfred Morris. Of course, DeSean Jackson is one of the game’s best big-play wide receivers. The Redskins picked the top offensive line prospect in the draft in Brandon Scherff, who could be this year’s Zack Martin. Almost as big of a question mark is the Washington defense. This unit has to get better and needs to play better at all three levels. Still, it’s a rebuild for Jay Gruden and this franchise. It could be another long season in D.C.

So what do you think? Is SM just setting expectations low? Or are we going to picking #1 in the draft next year?

I'm sorry, did this publication that receives revenue in return for the
professional service of discussing the national football league just rank the redskins dead f-ing last in preseason power rankings? This is a joke right? I'm not saying we should be #7, but I am sure as hell saying we should not be last. That's essentially saying that even based on last year's record, we've gotten appreciably worse, 4 spots worse, than we finished last year. Did the Buccaneers, Raiders, Titans and Jags have such amazing off seasons and I missed it?
The analysis is fine, no beef there.

I think that Scot and the staff really do believe that there will be some improvement this season and are looking to build on that
we're not going to be in the top 15 but I doubt that we finish much below 20th
that is a very good season for a franchise that has been in such disarray for so long - with ZERO plan to make things better

If we are dreadful again this year, I hope we finally get a franchise QB.

No doubt man. But I just dread the thought of our team trying to pick a franchise QB in the draft.

hah. Definitely insane. There is very little that I feel certain about when it comes to this team right now. But one thing I am 95% sure of is that we have a better, deeper roster than we did last year. I just don't see the team being worse than it was last year.

Yeah, we obviously aren't the worst team in the NFL.

I am more optimistic with McCloughan at the helm.

I predict that we will take an offensive lineman with our first pick in the 2016 draft ...

I want to be too. But I believe the last time McCloughan picked a QB #1 he took Alex Smith and passed on Aaron Rodgers.

hopefully, Scot will not have to worry about a QB in the early rounds for the next few drafts

Granted, that is one instance. But it's not like Alex Smith is Blaine Gabbert. He has talent, just not as much as Rodgers.
And NFL had it's power rankings, and they don't have us dead last. I believe it was 26th or 27th overall. Which was to be expected, considering our record last year and the big question mark at QB.

27 REDSKINS
Gotta like what those Redskins have done to shore up the defense. Terrance Knighton and Stephen Paea instantly make that front line better. Ryan Kerrigan's new running mate on the outside, Junior Galette, could make Kerrigan more effective, as long as Galette stays on the straight and narrow. Adding Chris Culliver and Dashon Goldson to the mix sure doesn't hurt. Wow, 21-on-21, this team should compete -- too bad about that 22nd guy at quarterback.

^^ maybe - I wonder what the rating would be with Cousins or McCoy as the QB

What isn't funny is actual football people thinking we'd be better off with McCoy as our starting QB. And they're dead serious. He's the "safe" option. That's pretty scary.

What "actual" football people would that be?

the fiery speculation about the QB here is understandable given what happened this past year but the FO and coaches seem to be handling the issue well and are not letting it get too far out of hand as it seemed to early last season
I think that we're going to see these guys give everyone the chance to show they belong on the roster - do the best they can with what they've got and move forward with remaking this franchise back into a contender
even a little evidence that the franchise is now clearly being managed by Scot (& the FO) will go a long way to dousing the flames from the media and others

Of course all eyes are on Griffin this year but other than him, I'm really interested in seeing how Gruden does. He seemed in over his head at times last year and we got blown out against the likes of Tampa, St.Louis, Indy and Dallas. He has to have this team competing this year.
