Terrance Knighton, Redskins' OL swap tips to improve gamesThis is the kind of story that I love to hear about our team.
What also happens, at least with these two players [Knighton and Lichtensteiger] -- as well as guard Spencer Long -- is trading the information to help one another. This doesn’t happen all the time, but it is going on now with this group of linemen.
“We know when it’s time to work and when it’s time to help each other out,” Knighton said. “You have to get each other better but at the same time look out for each other. At times he’ll get me on something and I’ll ask him what he sees in my stance and vice versa.”
I have no idea if our lineman have done this before, but the report makes it seem as though this is a somewhat novel occurrence for the skins and it can only make the OL and DL better, especially for C, RG and NT, right?!

Doesn't sound like Amerson's shoulder is anything that bad.
Tarik El-Bashir
@TarikCSN
#Redskins CB David Amerson (shoulder) is on the sidelines as walkthrough begins. No wrap or anything on shoulder.
I feel like I've been reading a lot of good comments about Stephen Paea this training camp so far. Really looking forward to seeing that d-line together next week.

btw - Has anyone heard anything more on reports that the coaches might actually prefer McCoy over Cousins at this time ...
while we can be encouraged about reports of the improvement by Griffin the reality is, he probably is going to require a lot of help and time to bring his level of play up to where he should be to be a good NFL QB
the good news is that he does not appear to be the disaster that some predicted a little while ago

Not I. Doesn't seem like either one has stood out at training camp so far. The camp observation stuff I've read has pretty much been, "Kirk/Colt didn't look sharp on several passes, threw a pick, then looked good on such and such drive." I've yet to read about either one really blowing anyone away.
Everybody still pretty certain we'll be carrying three QBs again this year? Seems like the safe bet for obvious reasons, but I wish we were in better position to only take two.

Trying to remember where/who I heard it, but yes I heard the same thing...They said Gruden prefers Colt. That is really dissapointing if true, I was rooting for Kirk.

by all accounts it appears Kirk Grossman has peaked... in the third quarter vs Philthy game one last year.. its been a snowball effect downward spiral ever since! smmfh i thought he would be who all the anti griff posters painted him to be- still just a fourth round turn over machine :/

I think that's a bit unfair...go take a look at some of the great QB's over the past couple of decades and you'll see double digit picks during the first year...her's a freebie...Luck 43 picks in his first 3 years.

Duke Ihenacho - DB - Redskins
Duke Ihenacho is getting the "first crack" at the Redskins' strong-safety job.
He's competing with Jeron Johnson. Our money has been on Johnson, but Ihenacho took all the first-team reps on Thursday. "We’re going to go out there and let them play," coach Jay Gruden said. "Duke’s done a good job so far, and those guys are going to line up and see what happens."
Source: Washington Post Jul 30 - 8:28 PM
CSN Washington expects Duke Ihenacho to open the season as the starting strong safety.
Ihenacho has been getting the majority of first-team reps over Jeron Johnson. The Redskins have more invested in Johnson and aren’t expected to name a starter until late in training camp. Dashon Goldson is locked in at free safety.

difference being Luck has taken his team to the playofffs every year, wins games, and is a 4th quarter BEAST. Kirk has ZERO gusto in crunchtime and well... is NOT Luck.

I never compared him to Luck...just making the point that young QB's throw picks. Picks are something that can be worked thru and coached.

I'm really surprised to hear these reports about Morgan Moses coming out of training camp. With that lisfranc injury last year, I wasn't really expecting to see him much at all. Callahan was apparently taking a look at him at right tackle with the first team yesterday. This from the WaPost:
Coaches have observed steady improvements in Moses. He’s doing a better job of using his length to his advantage, he has gotten stronger, and he’s moving well. Is he a better right tackle than Scherff? They don’t know the answer to that yet, but they’re intrigued with the possibility enough to see how Moses does at that spot, and how Scherff does at guard. Some draft analysts projected Scherff as a better guard than tackle. However, Washington’s talent evaluators believed at the time of the draft that he has the potential to be a great tackle or guard. Coaches now believe that Moses is a future starter in this league as well. So, Callahan is trying to find the best combination.
How did Moses look versus the starters? Pretty solid. Two different times, he did a good job of riding Ryan Kerrigan and steering him wide and away from the quarterback. Moses did well in the run game as well. Scherff looked solid at guard. He said “it doesn’t matter where they want to play me.” He believes he can handle either.
I don't care how high we drafted Scherff, I would be thrilled to see Moses earn a starting job this year at any position on the line. How cool would it be to eventually see that o-line starting Trent, Scherff, Moses and Long? Maybe LeRib even takes over at center?

Echoing riggo, I really don't care one bit as to who starts where on the line, so long as the LINE is the best line we've got. Getting into a thought experiment about whether the redskins picked brandon too high because he ends up starting at guard is stupid. 1. If Moses is good enough that he is the best RT and is playing great, he should be RT. 2. If Brandon is the best RG option over Long, so be it. Especially 3. if the reason Brandon is the best RG is because he got pushed from the RT spot by Moses and Long is actually pretty good, too, that just means we've got a great backup RG in Long and we can start training him up to play LG, perhaps. IF memory serves Lauvao is a bit older than Long, too, so there might be time for grooming him on the left side, too.
Competition. Competition everywhere is a welcome change of pace.

Don't panic...
Jackson was helped off the field and has returned, but he’s in a t-shirt and has his shoulder wrapped and iced. At this point however, the injury is not considered serious.
DeAngelo Hall says he tweaked his knee and groin. Achilles' tendon is fine.
Hall said his groin muscle was already feeling tight before practice, but he wanted to suit up because the #Redskins' depth is already thin.
DeAngelo Hall isn't super concerned about his injury.
