Haynesworth letter to himself

So Albert decides to
write a letter to his 14 year old self. When I look at it, I think he's actually pretty self aware (analogizes himself to a system quarterback), and the Shanahan bit is amazing.
If nothing else, listen to me on this, Albert: Do not leave the Tennessee Titans. Your defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz is a mastermind. No matter how much I tell you this, you’ll probably never realize it until your career is over, but it’s true. You’re like a system quarterback. You thrive in a very specific scheme. When you hit free agency, the Washington Redskins are going to offer you $100 million. Everyone will talk about this (they won’t talk about the fact that most of that money is not guaranteed, or that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers offered you $135 million). The $100 million will become a huge burden. Take less and stay in Tennessee where you belong.
Highlights the perils of free agency. But from a player perspective.
Oh, when you get on that first phone call with Dan Snyder and the organization in Washington, it’ll be all good. “We want you to play just like you did in Tennessee, Albert. We’re going to let you loose and destroy the Giants, Cowboys and Eagles. That’s your job.”
Then during your first OTA, you’re going to be introduced to a different brand of football. I can already see you rolling your damn eyes. How can football be different? I’m a defensive lineman. Well, football in Washington versus football in Tennessee was like the difference between a general physician and a cardiologist. Both doctors. One is just a little more sophisticated.
People are going to be all over you for your contract, and you’re going to feel really frustrated. You’re going to do some dumb things. But what people aren’t going to see is Mike Shanahan calling you into his office and saying, “Albert, we just want you to eat up space. All we want you to do is grab the center and let the linebackers run free.”
You’re going to look at this famous NFL head coach in total disbelief and say, “You want to pay me $100 million to grab the center?”
And he’s going to say, with a straight face, “Albert, if you have more than one sack this season, I’m going to be pissed.”
The last thing you’ll say before walking out of the office is, “Can’t you just pay someone $300,000 a year to do that?”
You will lose your passion for football in Washington, and it will be impossible to get back.
That's astounding if true.

There's no doubt that the Shanahan anecdote is revealing — although I suspect it happened after Haynesworth had already given up the ghost. Still, on the whole I thought the "letter" was narcissistic and vain, and most likely just an attempt to make himself feel better about, and innocent of, his own catastrophic failures.

The Redskins made me sign a $100 million contract which caused me to lose my passion for football.

What a load of self-aggrandizing crap. Even "IF" the Shanahan story is true, Haynesworth has a really weird concept of what "eating up space" means. Because DM's gif of his "effort" against the Eagles is enough in and of itself to counter anything he says in his open letter.
Open Letter? Get over yourself you narcissistic welp.

I would usually call my next comment a *SPAM BREAK* but considering it's haynesworth I'll just leave my comment without saying its spam because the real spam was that big pile of blubber that we gave $100Mill to.
For anyone who is interested in signing up for our THN Fantasy Football League, please send me a private message. All posts relating to it can be found in the "General Manager's Office" section under the post "THNFF" (the year will be updated later on in the summer). Currently we have 5 open slots remaining. If you were in the league previously, you have received multiple invites and if you haven't signed up yet you may lose your spot.
Thank you and have a blessed day.. except for haynesworth, cowboy players/staff, and cowboy fans. I don't hope you die or anything like that but stump a toe or something.

This is more like Haynesworth "letter to make excuses and get himself back into the news".
If anyone wants to teach their kid why making excuses is TOXIC to your ability to succeed, just havethem read his "letter" and basically anything about the dude. He blames the redskins for his football issues, blames his contract for his reputation, and then blames his financial advisor for why he doesn't have any money....... Does he not realize that these were all things, in one form or another, within his control...... what a loser.
When you talk about guys that "lack character" --- Haynesworth is the posterchild.

This is exactly what this letter is most useful for. You can learn a lot from other people's mistakes.

You should always try to learn from the mistakes of others. No one will live long enough to make them all himself.

My guess: in 2015 there is a lot of sports "news" time to be filled. How many 24 hour sports channels are there, 3 general sports (ESPN, FOX Sports, other) and then there's one for each of the NBA, MLB, Golf, Tennis, the SEC, Big 12, BIG 10, and on and on and that's just national coverage, never mind the variants of Fox Sports for south, pacific and CSN type channels. Basically there's a lot of minutes available to be taken. Nevermind all of the internet sports news coverage.

Well, and this was published in the
Player's Tribune, which, whatever else its merits may be, is essentially a platform for self-serving and revisionist editorials by players, delivered with an air of exclusivity.

While I do NOT support Albert...at all (he was a total waste, a true bust), I do believe Mike was a huge part of the problem! Albert has a point -- why pay someone that much money to take on two guys...the guy excelled at rushing the passer, wrecking havoc and making plays on the qb?
Why not sign a guy for 1-2 mil to do that and then use the other money for CBs, LBs, etc...?
It was one stupid decision by Danny, after another....until he hired Scot!
Let's quit talking about Danny, Mike S and Fat Al...let's move on!
