Just watching Cris Carter talk about Amari Cooper on ESPN today - that's definitely a player I would expect is going to have a lot of success in the NFL. It got me thinking about this question. The trouble with the #5 pick is there are so many good players available but you can only pick one. Which player in this year's draft do you think we would end up most regretting if we pass on him at #5?

I listed some possibles. I'm going to say Winston is off the board by #5 and Leonard Williams is obvious, so we'll leave him out for the sake of discussion.

Which of these guys do you think we might have us one day saying, "Man, we could have drafted ______."

I think Gregory is most likely... And that there will be several teams doing the same. He has potential to be a very disruptive force, but will likely go to a lucky team at the bottom of the top 10, or even lower.

Man I was sure you would say Shelton! I could totally see that guy becoming a Wilfork type player and regretting that we passed on him.

I don't see us passing up Leonard Williams if he's there, but I could see us passing up Amari Cooper which could end up being quite regrettable

The problem with this question is simply the number of quality characters who WILL be available at our pick. Even if we nail our pick, there is going to be opportunity to say "if only... "

...and, we need an "all of the above" option, because that's a nice list of players we will regret not drafting... Just saying... That's not a cop-out... I literally suspect that each one of them will cause us pain, if playing elsewhere

No way . . . the odds practically guarantee that 25%-50% of these guys are only mediocre in the NFL, with a number of busts.

I think the obvious answer is Mariota, it’s a QB league, other positions just don't impact the game as much and are easier to replace than QB. IF he’s on the board and IF we pass on him and IF he pans out be a franchise QB we’ll hear about it for years….Lots of BIG IF’s

I chose white bc I don't think he will be drafted by us.

One percent?! Let's assume there's an 80 percent chance that the Bucs take Winston. The three other teams in front of us all have good reason not to take a QB. Maybe Tennessee does, but if not then it's a pretty good bet Mariota falls to us. I doubt another team is going to try to trade with the Raiders or Jaguars when they know they can probably make a deal with us and therefore pay less.

I'm not saying he won't be gone by #5 — in fact I hope he is, because it almost certainly means that one of my favorite players will be there if McCloughan wants him — but saying it's a 1 percent chance is basically saying there's no chance . . . and it's pretty easy to imagine a scenario where it happens.

lol. I had the same reaction reading that post yesterday. I'm not sure I believe Mariota will be there at #5, but I could break down the math to prove its better than a "1% chance". hah.

Hard to know what teams really think of him btw. I'm not convinced that teams believe he is really a can't miss guy. He doesn't have any of the character concerns that Winston does, so its weird that there is even a debate between the two.

Because there are some ??s about Mariota, I think Cooper is most likely the player we regret not drafting. I think he'll have an immediate impact wherever he plays and has a good shot to be an elite WR. Even if we draft a really solid pass rusher, it won't make up for the fact that you'll still be seeing Cooper's stats every week. 100+ yards, 2TDs or whatever.

That doesn't mean we should take Cooper over a pass rusher. Just saying that perception will be there.
