I want to see what everyones opinion is... if we do trade down, who would we trade with, why would they trade us, and what would we get in return...

Currently I see the following possibilities.

First, its possible Winston drops to us, Tampa will likely draft Mariota, and if the Titans pass on Winston, he will fall to us. The Jets would likely take him at 6 with their noj commitment to Geno from the new staff. Thats puts us in position to work a trade deal with anyone else wanting a QB. Currently that would open up possible trade to the Rams, Eagles, and Texans at a minimum. The Bills need a QB but dont hold a first round pick. Also the Bears want to cut bait with Cutler, if they find a way to get rid of him they could be looking too. Also the Jets may offer to trade up 1 spot to keep any of those other teams from trading up. So thats 5 potential teams.

Personally I like the idea of trading down to the jets. We wouldnt get a ton in return, maybe their 2nd round pick, or at best their 1st next year and 3rd this year.... but we would come out of it being able to draft whoever we would of selected at #5...

Heres a twist though... we make that trade THEN maybe Amari Cooper is still available. We take the #6 pick and trade down to Cleveland at #12, and get their #19 pick too. They need another strong weapon to help their struggling qb's.

So, from the #5 pick, 2 trades net us the #12, #19, 3rd rounder this year, and 1st rounder next year.

What you guys got?

I want a great OT or CB in the first round. If they can get one of those with a later pick and another pick by trading the #5 great. If the Skins use a high pick for a QB I'm losing it, I'll be permanently done. I gotta see to see sound build up the team picks not Snyder new savior. The hiring of a good talent evaluating GM has created the faintest of hopes Dan's going to stay out of the kitchen.

I'm always a fan of trading down if there isn't a stud at your pick. This year, Williams is the stud. Not totally convinced of anyone else. Collins should not go $5 and we don't need WR, unless we trade Garcon for a pick.

We are 7-10 players away, so trade down to Cleveland. If we can get their #12, 2nd round pick this year and 2nd round pick next year I'd do it.

The NFL trade value chart has #5 at 1700. Their two picks this year at 1640. If they really were hot for someone they pay a premium.

I live here in Philly country, Kelly has been given full control of the roster and all the talk is he wants Mariota?? I don’t see him being available at 5, mainly because someone else will trade with Philly before we get the chance to. Also it’s within the division…that said if Winston and Mariota are off the board when we pick, not sure we’ll have any takers??

Really hard to predict. Houston may go defensive side of yhe ball, which makes Winston drop, Jags will likely bolster their o line and they draft for need. Oakland inreally think is a lock to take Amari Cooper. That would leave Winston to us at #5. There is a 0% chance we draft him so dont know why people think that.

It would take a block buster trade for us to not take Leonard Williams if he is available... guy screams BPA. If Scot plays it right though... we can make everyone think we are shopping a trade, then let the Jets jump up 1 spot to beat out philly and the rams. Still get Williams, and pick up a #2 or 3 from them this year, or maybe their #1 next year.

I'm not sure Mariota is such a lock for Tampa. That could just as easily be Winston. I kinda think as they go through the draft process that Winston is going to look like the better pro prospect in spite of the maturity issues.

We need players. If we can trade down from #5 and pick up an extra second rounder or something, I would definitely do it.

both Cleveland & Philly may want Mariota - what is the 5th pick worth exactly - are we likely to get both of Cleveland's picks?

the 12th & 19th picks in the first round have more value than the 5th pick, see chart below. Without getting out my Cray computer, it would be closer if we gave them our 5th pick & our 2nd round pick for their 12, 19th in first round and their 3rd round pick. However, if they're willing to overpay to get the pick, they might do it straight up.

thanks for that - I really appreciate it - I just cannot believe Mariota will be there but it would be a huge bonus ...

If he's there & Cleveland & Philthy both ant him, that would be VERY good for us.

Cleveland is in desperate need of a QB and WR. We have decent odds of picking up their 2 first rounders and possibly more depending on who falls to #5 and who else wants that pick.

I think that if some team really wants him they're going to have to get a higher pick than 5 before the draft

You could be right. But if the Bucs like Winston more than Mariota, I guess you could see something like this:
Tampa - Winston
Titans - DE Shane Ray
Jax - DE Dante Fowler or DT Leonard Williams
Oak - WR Amari Cooper

We are sitting there at #5 with the Jets who might want Mariota behind us at #6. That would be a good spot for us!

I'm curious about the comments that the Browns would be interested in trading up for him. That would be awesome, but still surprises me after they just drafted Manziel.

I think there could be other scenarios to trade down from #5 that don't involve the QBs. Say Leonard Williams is still there at #5, for example.

I like this scenario ... the Browns realize that they made a HUGE mistake with Manziel and while they are hopeful, they need a QB

they have 2 draft picks in the 1st but there's no way they're as stupid as we are in giving up way too much for a QB ...

however, as fred pointed out - they could package something together ...

the thing is - I think if a franchise really wants Mariota they're not waiting till draft day to find out he could fall to 5

and if Williams is going to be available at 5, they're most likely taking him IMO

Trade with the Bucs for the first pick.

Its a possibility, just more expensive.

Yes, that is the only option to guarantee you get him. I suppose the Bucs could sign a deal with another player to become the first pick, and then you could trade for the second pick which would also guarantee, pre-draft, that you can get him.

how does that 'pre-draft' thing work exactly? what would you do if you really wanted Mariota?

I do understand that this Browns owner, Jim Haslam, is actually worse than Dan Snyder ...

Maybe Scot can figure out how to do a 3 way deal with the Bucs and Browns so that they both get the QBs they want and we get a great trade to get out of the 5 spot - the only franchise that really wants Winston is the Bucs and he should still be there at 5

then again, if Snyder & Allen were running things we could end up with Manziel ...

Hey well if you're feeling optimistic, here's the CBS sports recent piece on the Browns possibly wanting to trade up for Mariota:

The Browns will give "very strong consideration" to trading up in an effort to draft Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota, reports Bleacher Report's Jason Cole, citing sources within the organization. Cleveland owns the Nos. 12 and 19 picks in the 2015 draft.

In CBSSports.com's latest mock drafts, experts Rob Rang and Dane Brugler have Mariota going sixth to the Jets. An earlier report from The Star-Ledger indicated the Eagles also could try to trade up for Mariota, who played two years at Oregon under coach Chip Kelly.

Cleveland's quarterback situation is a mess. Brian Hoyer is headed for free agency, and Johnny Manziel just checked himself into rehab.

One possible problem for the Browns is that they could lose a draft pick because of that whole Ray Farmer/textgate mess. ouch.

i don't see it happening .... i think we move cousins before the draft .... but i think we stay put take an impact player @ 5 and go from there.
would i trade down ....YES SIR we need as many picks as we can get. it makes all the since in the world for us to move that pick. i just don't see it happening.
