Back then, didn't we (SKINS) have the biggest guys on the Oline? All over 300 pounds and that was rare. Now, these guys are tipping 320-350 pounds.

Looks like we're shifting to that scheme now. Some of our current Olinemen will be out looking for new work.

A few days ago here we looked at the possibility that the Redskins will shift to being more of a power running team as opposed to rushing primarily out of the zone scheme. That was based on the addition of new general manager Scot McCloughan and his philosophy that “big guys win in the NFL” and head coach Jay Gruden’s history of preferring the power game while he was the offensive coordinator of the Bengals.

Today, we got one more reason to think that the answer to the power game shift is a resounding “yes” when the Redskins hired Bill Callahan as their offensive line coach.

Love it. I think it will also help build a pocket for a drop back QB more effectively.

We wont ever have another hogs. But we can get a good Oline. Win a couple SuperBowls then maybe we can talk. I am glad that we have a new GM and am hopeful as always. Ready for the draft and excited.

Same principal. SB 26: the old Hogs/Piglets ran at Bruce Smith again and again until Smith no longer seemed eager to be on the field.

Not all. Bostic was an undersized center even for that time, and still got the job done. He was around 260-270 if I remember right.

So does this mean a Redskins HC, OC, O Line coach, and a talented GM are all on the same page?

Not all. Bostic was an undersized center even for that time, and still got the job done. He was around 260-270 if I remember right.

Centers are also usually the lightest linemen too. They mostly make cutoff blocks or just get low and "anchor."

- I think Jim Lachey was about 295 pounds. He was nimble, had good balance and technique. Lachey was so good that the Giants stopped rushing Lawrence Taylor one-on-one against Lachey. Taylor would hang back a few yards while someone else engaged Lachey, then charge the passer. Giants even had Taylor line up on the left side -- Redskins right side. Someone like Carl Banks (guessing, but Banks played the OLB opposite Taylor) would rush and Taylor would swing wide around Lachey and whoever had Lachey.

- Joe Jacoby was about 300+ pounds. Not as quick as Lachey. Until the Redskins got Lachey (for Jay Schroeder, I think), Big Jake was the left tackle. Then Jacoby moved mostly to RT and LG. I think Jacoby's knes began to wear down, so it was easier on him to play guard.

- I think Russ Grimm played at about 290. Now that we're talking Hogs, Grimm should have been hired as OL coach for the Redskins. Foolish to push him out in 2000 or 2001.

- Jeff Bostic? I can't remember. He was smaller than Grimm, but by how much?

- Mark May: also about 290, but that's just a guess.

The Jimmy Johnson Cowboys got a bigger OL from 1990 onward, but they had watched the Hogs.

If the new guys win a Superbowl lets call them Hogwarts.
