Check it out....
Redskins hired Joe Barry as defensive coordinator.
It couldn't be any more underwhelming of a hire. Barry, 44, was the Chargers' LBs coach each of the past four seasons, but had a previous stint as the Lions' defensive coordinator from 2007-2008 under coach Rod Marinelli, who is Barry's father-in-law. The Lions went 0-16 in 2008 and finished dead-last in total defense each of those two seasons, giving up over 404 yards per game in the winless year. We'd actually maybe prefer Jim Haslett over Barry. Jan 14 - 9:44 AM

I disagree with Ian R. - If this is who Jay and the FO guys want, they have a much better handle on it than he does
I'm not as worried about what he's done as I'm sure he can do a better job that Jim Haslett did ...
a big part of Haslet's problem this past season was the injuries and who he had to work with - hopefully we don't lose as many players next season and we're in a huge building mode here, so hopefully the secondary issues are helped with better player acquision
why not look at the good - we were horrible last season - give it a couple of years and the defense could be a force again
we're not looking at being NFC East contenders in 2015 - P A T I E N C E

Why hire a guy who was completely awful as a defco in his last go around? This doesn't seem to be a very smart move, but then again, I could be surprised.
I mean the track record of the Redskins does indicate that they're smarter than everyone else, right?

this franchise is in a tradition mode and is at least 1 year (in your dreams) away from having a competitive product on the field
ostensibly Jay Gruden was given the opportunity to hire his DC - well he's done that and now we'll see how this works out
we're all going to go through an interesting 12 months here and if this does not work out, it's just a bad hire by Jay and unless he's done a much better job in 2015 than he did in 2014, he's going to be under a lot of heat here
we needed a change - let's see how things go - "Jay Gruden, you're up" ....

Can't say I'm not disappointed we didn't go with Wade Phillips. Does Barry run a 3-4?

I lived in the san Diego area when Barry was there. His units sucked big time. No cohesion, lots of missed communications, lots of players out of place .... Sound familiar??? He blamed the failure on lack of talent. That seems to be the new mantra for the coaching failures. This would be a very bad selection. If true, be prepared for more years of the defense being at the bottom of the league and disorganized.

Also the Redskins officially deny the report, and numerous people inside and outside the organization say the skins have not made a decision yet. So everyone may be getting worked up over nothing.

Unfortunately, McCloughan isn't involved. This is such a disappointment. There are some very good coordinators out there available and to choose a guy that lead Detroit to two years as a dead last defense is sad. Hopefully I'm wrong.

No one said he wasnt involved, just that its Jays decision. But again no reason to get into it until its been confirmed in some way.

this is how it is a lot here - there just don't seem to be many 'reports' that are really accurate anymore ...
I think I'll wait and hear who it is before I get too worried about things

Yeah I'm with you 100% man. I was kind of surprised to hear about Barry this morning, definitely didn't see that hire coming. But why are we never happy unless we get the big name guy? We always have to get the name brand guy who was good somewhere else, and how has that worked out?
Gruden must like Barry for some reason. Its his job on the line, so he should get the staff he wants.

I'm not sure people are never happy unless it's a big name hire. I certainly am not like that. I'm very skeptical if this is our hire for performance reasons. His track record is ridiculously bad. He's also part of that Tampa connection which makes you wonder who's driving this search and whether it's truly an extensive one. It also continues the coaching additions from a 2006 Tampa staff which was VERY mediocre.

Weird that this news leaked like this today. I wonder if it was that NBC4 lady jumping the gun again trying to "break" the news! lol.

Didn't we already reach out to Fangio and he declined. Seems I remember something about that.

Those are valid criticisms, I agree. I still feel though like Gruden isn't going to hire a DC that he doesn't believe will help the team. What would be the point of that? Friendships and connections are all well and good, but if you hire some goofball who can't get the job done, you're both going to be out on your *** in a few months.
I'm with you that I'd at least be skeptical of an unproven guy like Barry until we see what his defense looks like.

No, the 49ers declined to let us interview him.
He's told the 49ers apparently that he would stay on with Shanahan as head coach. It would be kind of hard for him to stay as DC with his d-line coach jumping over him for the HC job. I think we'll get a crack at him if the team is interested in him.

The 49ers have gone in-house to find their next coach. Defensive line coach Jim Tomsula has agreed to terms with San Francisco to become the team's top boss, per the team's official website on Wednesday. He was one of eight candidates to interview for the position after Jim Harbaugh's departure on Dec. 28, 2014.
"Our organization is excited to have Jim Tomsula leading this football team," general manager Trent Baalke said in a statement. "We have had the privilege of working alongside Jim for the past eight seasons. He is a proven leader, teacher and mentor, and we look forward to seeing him apply his craft and vision to our team."
Bring on Vic.

lol. Saw that this morning. She's trying to get us with the reverse-hype-psyche out.
I don't know how true this statement is, but it kind of scared me to read:
There was a report Wednesday morning that they had decided to hire Chargers linebackers coach Joe Barry for the job. After the report was met with a very negative reaction by many Redskins fans, it appeared that the process stopped.
