So, I guess Wade Phillips is not a for sure thing? Or What.
We're still asking for more DC interviews...? No one wants this thankless job....? SMH
Larry Gibbs also denied by Chiefs an interview with us.

Why not interview as many good candidates as possible?

Nothing odd about interviewing multiple people for the job.

Actually it signifies a change lol. Usually we just pick the person with the closest ties to someone in the organization. Ultimately I like wade Phillips, but if Scot is making that decision... then ill trust his judgement

Don't we have to comply with the Rooney rule on this hiring as well?

I sort of remember that we interviewed like seven or eight guys for the HC job last year including Gruden. Rooney rule is part of it and just making sure you're not overlooking potentially good coaches. I think bringing in like Perry Fewell from the Giants is also kind of a way to get a look at what's going on with other teams in your division too.

It now seems the giants want to 'interview' Raheem - just to pick his brain a little maybe ....

I 100% don't think it is because the NYGs want to know what the defensive gameplan or player personnel was under our newly fired DC.....
More likely ---- NYG just fired their DC and CB coaches. It looks like Spagnuolo is their top candidate; who previously was the NYG DC in 2008. He has a relationship with Coughlin and the hiring would be a promotion from his current role in BAL. Morris could be interviewing for the CB job or the DC job, but if it is for the DC job, it would most likely be lip service and one of the flaws behind the Rooney rule.
It is very likely that our new DC may not retain Morris....... Morris is also interviewing for the skin's current DC job..... a job that he has a significantly greater chance of getting..... so, I doubt Morris would do anything to compromise that by going up to NYC and gossiping about a now defunct defensive scheme used by his current employer. That would be just plain stupid.

Is that true? I know his name has been suggested but I haven't seen anything about his being scheduled to interview. I thought they are just keeping him around for now in case the new DC wants to retain him.

Can someone explain the title to me? Who was denied?
I like Wade... Morrisnim on the fence about. As a db coach do we judge our putrid secondary? Or how Rambo was a weak link who went on to play well elsewhere? Or do we say he was dealt a crappy hand and look at what he did w Breeland, and Amerson (last year) and blame the DC for calling soft coverages so far off the line?

Two or three guys. 49ers didn't let us talk to Fangio, Chiefs didn't let us talk to one of the LB coaches, etc;
I don't really understand the Chiefs btw. DC is a promotion from LB coach. I thought they could only deny interviews for lateral moves like Fangio?

I think this is right. From what I've seen, the KC LB coach himself declined to be interviewed, not the team forbade it as was the case with San Francisco.

From what I have been told, a team will "deny" the interview request when the coach isn't interested. This is a generalization and may not be the case in each specific situation, but teams typically allow their employees to go on job interviews with other employers --- if they didn't it would make for a frictional work enviornment moving forward.

So was the 49ers DC coach, one of the ones that we were denied an interview with? Personally considering how strong the 49ers D normally is and that he had worked with our G.M. Scott, I think he would be a good choice.

Ah that makes sense. Thanks for clarifying, gents.

Yes, the SF DC was denied. We wanted him.... he didn't want us.
And I don't believe Fangio has worked with McCloughan in the past. McCloughan was with SF until 2010. Fangio didn't come to SF until 2011. Fangio has a relationship with the Harbaughs.

Eric Mangini has been coaching the tight ends with the 49ers of late, but he made his name as a professional coach on the defensive side of the ball.
He may be headed back. Dianna Marie Russini of NBC Washington reports that Mangini will interview for the vacant defensive coordinator position on Jay Gruden’s Redskins staff.
Mangini was the Patriots’ defensive coordinator in 2005 after several years as a defensive backs coach and then was hired as the Jets head coach the next year. He joined the 49ers staff in 2013 as an offensive assistant and then moved to the tight ends job for the 2014 season.
