Your assesment of Gruden in year one. What would you do next

Curious of what everyone thinks of gruden after year one. If you were in Grudens shoes what would you do next? (Knowing that as a HC he only has limited power, and all major decisions are going to be between him, bruce, and danny)
Ill be the first to say I really really like Jay. Watching his press conferences, he is a man that speaks his mind, knows what he wants, and doesnt mind hurting peoples feelings to get it. You need that in our terrible football market where the media spins out of control and tries to dictate what happens with the team. The media wont sway jay, he seems fearless, which we need. I dont agree with his assessment of Haslett, but its an old friend of his... that can cloud any mans judgement, or at the least makes him publically support him to avoid conflict.
When it comes to the future. I would rally to get rid of RG3. He is not a franchise savior, and is nothing but a distraction. Regardless of what he can or cannot do on the field, his interview answers sound fake. It honestly sounds like it hurts him to give credit to the team, and he dances around taking any direct blame, even after jay toaated him in that press conference. RG3 is fake and all in it for himself. A person like that has no place on the team.
I would make my case to bruce on drafting and adding sone talentat right tackle and guard, a huge and strong body at NT, a new OLB to compliment kerrigan, 2 new safeties, and a ilb that knows how to pass protect. Its a long list, youll never do it all in 1season, but the ones you do.... do em right.
Id research new DC's and recommend one that fits in with the culture of hard work that I want to instill, and someone that is good at analyzing offenses and knows how to playcall a game.

Some good thoughts here but I politely disagree with some ideas. First, I live in Utah and don't see all the games or pressers so I may be on another planet but to me Gruden seems a little lost. "We'll look at the tape" is his answer for everything post-game it seems. Like he wasn't on the sideline during the game or forgot to pay attention. He just doesn't seem to me to be all that confident or in control. His honesty - a strong point - to me, is often times spoken at the wrong time to the wrong people. Some of it just feeds the crazy media out there and I don't think he means to do it. Also, it seemed like when he was brought in here he was expected to bring our qb's along. Had a history of it with Dalton in Cincy etc. Where did that go? Our qbs seemed to regress under Gruden. I'm rooting for the guy and hope he learns quick but year one was a dissapointment for me coaching wise.
Again...most of these statements include "it seems" or "to me".....just my opinions based on limited access. Agree or disagree I will be interested to see other opinions on Gruden. Just don't bother smacking me around because (a) you are smarter than me and (b) you probably have a better feel for whats going on out there. Hail

I know what you mean about "we'll look at the tape", but pretty much every coach who has been here has had his stock non-answer to the media post game badgering. Not something I'll hold against him. His press conferences after a win are pretty entertaining, so I suspect the fact that we had so many losses (and bad losses at that) just exacerbated all of this.
I've posted before that I just don't have much of assessment about Gruden at all. There's just so much "other stuff" going on with the team that I don't see how we can really evaluate what he's done.
I get the criticism about the QB shuffle that went on this year. Even that, I don't believe is entirely fair. Let's be honest that when he showed up here RGIII was unquestionably the starter and there was no coach's decision about it whatsoever. If there is any criticism of Gruden there it should be that he didn't lay down the gauntlet on the QB sooner. By most accounts, RGIII was not the best QB coming out of camp this summer.
He seems like a good dude. Its hard not to wonder though if this team (and this owner) might have benefited more from the less cuddly coach? Think Marty. Gregg Williams. Those haven't been the guys Snyder has wanted around.

I think he made an honest effort to coach-up RG3 and when it didn't work he was searching for reasonable replacement by playing Cousins and McCoy. Now, he has time to let all the QBs compete and determine who the QB will be moving forward. If he feels he is forced to start RG3, regardless, I will not be surprised if he is "One and Done".

I'm very critical of Gruden, it looks like he is going to be our coach for the next season so what he needs to do is attract talented Offensive line coaches, secondary coaches, QB coach, coaches like Bugel and Pettibone etc. Its those guys that do the real work, the HC provides a winning atmosphere and clears the path to make their jobs effective. It is not the HC's job to manage individual players, he manages the managers.
Gruden needs to define what his role will be, focus on it and put responsible people in key areas and trust their judgement.
I'd really, really like to see this guy make it, he is young and can have a long career with the 'Skins. We need longevity that is how an organization is built.

Results speak for themselves. I am not high on him yet. In terms of results. Thats the measuring stick wins.
Obviously we did not see any improvement from last year. I need to see a drastic turn around or I am want him gone. Its that simple.
We as fans have to demand results now. We have endured much already. So the time for patience is over. We cannot tolerate mediocrity. Either we see results or hit the road jack.

I think he's a real good designer of plays and probably a pretty good play caller but I am very shaky about how good a general he is. It may simply be an impossible job with our current structure. Maybe no true general would be willing to come here since emasculation awaits.
Hopefully, that can change. Does not seem likely in the near future, however.

Problem is though... if everyones expectation is make a big impact in your first year or leave, we will turn over a HC every single year.
Our issues go beyond Gruden, he is one right piece in a puzzle missing a lot of pieces.
Its impossible to pinpoint any few things to fix the team, otherwise it would be fixed already...
We need a better GM that understands how to build a successful staff.
We need better people to evaluate talent from both FA and the draft
We need to find and get rid of a bulk of the people inside the orginization leaking team information
We need our HC to build a staff that is experienced in and focused on success, from trainers to position coaches to assistants.
We need veteran leadership in the locker room from outside the organization. Players that have played roles on winning teams and expect to win.
We need our current players to commit 100% to change and winning. Every player should be like Breeland, in any free time you have you need to be perfecting your game
It is very possible for the organization to turn around very quickly... turn around doesnt mean a division championship, it means being competitive and not looking incompetent.

It's too early to pass judgement on Gruden. But in reality, it doesn't matter if Gruden is a great coach or a terrible coach because until the mess in the front office gets sorted out in doesn't much matter who we have on the sidelines. Get a proper GM, give him a couple of years to turn over this dumpster fire of a roster, and only then can you really evaluate Gruden as a coach.

Was against the hire from day one, I felt the Skins wanted Jon, but let him talk them into hiring Jay…who gives a first time HC 5 year 20 mil contract?? Gruden did nothing to change my mind this year. That said I feel he should be given total control of HIS staff, if he wants Haslett here, so be it…Danny and Bruce should allow it and judge him accordingly. Of course they won’t and that is one of the many systemic issues with this organization.

I expected more from the team so I am not that enthused about Gruden today but it may be impossible to produce reasonable results with Snyder and Allen running things. Perhaps every single coach in the league would've fared this poorly, I don't know how much to blame Gruden if at all.
If Griffin is named the starter without a convincing wide open QB competition in 2015 we will know poor Gruden has no authority.
