Let the 2015 mock draft begin....

The Skins could take:
6. Washington Redskins -- Brandon Scherff, OT, Iowa: Jay Gruden's success as the play-caller in Cincinnati came with one of the league's biggest offensive lines. He inherited one of the smallest in Washington and there is no question that upgrading the talent there will be an offseason priority. Not everyone sees Scherff (or any offensive lineman this year) as a top 10 talent but he plays with the grit and physicality Washington is lacking and would be an immediate upgrade at right tackle.
OR
Washington Redskins: Ronnie Stanley, OT, Notre Dame
The Redskins are passing on Shane Ray for a slightly inferior prospect, but they're set at outside linebacker. Also, they haven't been able to protect very well. It's highly disconcerting that third-round rookie Morgan Moses hasn't been able to find his way into the starting lineup despite the team's issues at right tackle. Moses finally started at San Francisco, and he was abysmal.
There's talk that Andrus Peat will return to school, whereas Ronnie Stanley, who has been incredible this year, asked the draft advisory committee for his projected grade.

I'm all for drafting a lineman in round 1, but I wouldn't say we are set at OLB either.
Would Scherff still be around in Round 2? If not, then grab him. I just don't want us to draft another project lineman. I read a lot of good things about this guy though.
What about Safeties? Any first rounders we can't pass on or is there a stud that could be available in the 2nd round?

One more thing...
Are Moses and Long just another Compton and LeRib? I'm just sick of us drafting linemen that backup crappier linemen. That tells me our line coach is incompetent in developing players.
We HAVE addressed the line, but why isn't there any return on our investment?
Cut them if they really suck so bad to only be backups of our current line!

So we could have had the number 3 pick if we lost our last two games. Oh well, I like the heart associated with winning when there is nothing to be gained. Means even more when that win means something to the other team and ultimately knocks them out of the playoffs. Means even more when that team is a hated division opponent.

Stanley is the better of the two in terms of overall talent. Schreff does play with a mean streak, but is projected to be more of a guard in the nfl. I would prefer Stanley of the two. as for safety, Collins would be the only one worthy of a pick that high. He's is a good hitter, but struggles in coverage. I've seen him beaten quite a few times this year, so to me he looks like a LaRon Landry type. I would pass, as there are other safeties we could get later on in the draft who are better coverage guys. Best case scenario is Winston is still available when we pick and someone falls in love with him and offers us a nice package.

I would be game for Scherff, Randy Gregory or Danny Shelton. If we completely destroy free agency, I'd be ok with Amari Cooper/DeVante Parker. Randy Gregory reminds me a lot of Aldon Smith, Shelton could potentially be Ngata-ish. At the moment the rankings suggest Gregory could be a possibility, but I really don't see him making it out of the top 3 when it's said and done.

Still so early, but if I were betting right now I'd guess we go defensive line. I'd be happy with the Brandon Scherff pick though!

It's early but I'd be surprised if if we don't go for that kid Collins out of Alabama or a guy that can help the D line ...
IF we trade out of that 5 or 6 pick it's a slightly different story because L. Collins is not lasting beyond the 10th pick

Any solid linemen in FA next year? In some sense I'd rather us get someone who we've seen on the NFL level.

I don't like to reach in the first round, unless it's a qb.
If Schreff would be picked around 15, then trade back and get another pick. Maybe the Browns would give us their two first rounders (theirs & Bills) for our early first round pick so they can get a weapon for their offense, like Cooper. Maybe we can throw in McCoy...surely they want him back...hahaha
Clearly, our two lines need talent. A DLineman and OLineman with our first two picks would make me very happy -- AND make me think Danny is NO longer involved in the draft. If we pick a qb, a wr, a safety, I won't be so sure!
Gruden will need to work with Haslett, or the new Defensive coach, to determine if we're sticking with a 3-4 DL and if NOT, determine what we need most along the Def line.
Of course, free agency has an impact in what we pick...again, don't reach in first round - and ONLY pick a big guy (aka lineman).

I don't know if OT or DB is the most pressing need but drafting a tackle out of Iowa makes sense, Iowa turns out quality NFL linemen. I would be surprised and please if the Skins use their high first round pick for an OT. Daniel Snyder invariably chooses style over substance, a pick like this would signal football people are making the choices.

Trent Williams was picked at 4. I think the best strategy is to write needs And take best available of those positions and see which position has depth. Something teams probably do already lol
And old school what do you think is most pressing need? I think the 2 you mentioned are big ones pre-free agency

Not me. With a few exceptions, teams aren't letting the quality linemen get away in free agency. Our best linemen is Trent Williams, a guy we drafted with a high first round pick who was able to play in his first year and has turned into our most reliable guy. If we can get another guy like that on the right side, please do.

Frankly, I think we will try to trade for picks. If we keep, the pick at 6, I think we go Defense, but I think the preference would be a stockpile of picks to work on the lines and d backfield.

ding ding - hold all the calls, we have a winner!
I know it's not easy to trade down but we need a bunch of new young players - trading players for picks is OK too - we need to change the way we do things here - no more of this "we aren't that far away ..." and "let's keep some experienced players ..." that BS does not work
we need a makeover - we need to address both lines, the secondary and get some quality depth - that's a lot of players
I also hope that they move Allen out of the personnel acquisition stuff and into the numbers game ...

Alright, so lets roll with that thought for a minute.
Who would we trade for picks and for what reasonable round? Or are we trading down only?
Any chance of us getting the mystical compensatory picks this year?

I think we can likely trade back to #13 with the browns as they would likely want Amari Cooper. Sherff should still be available at #13 and we can likely get their other 1stbround or at worst their 2nd round. Then we can see whats available for the d line or safety at 16 or trade back into the 2nd round for a 1st rounder next year as well.

If we pick at #6 itll be landon collins... but im only ok with that if we cannot get a quality safety in FA

Can't accumulate picks if you trade for players, plus, you are lucky if you get full value... Soooo... Trading down, only...

I only mentioned trading for picks. #6 for #13 and #16 them trade #16 to someone for their low 1st or high 2nd and their 1st next year

I think I agree with this... His hitting and desire will remind of ST... He will be an impact player but, I have questions about cover skills...
Otoh, a beast with Tide credentials would be good to have...

My bad... I meant to reply to Neo's post just prior to yours... I absolutely agree with your scenario as a good possibility.

+1. Yeah, I think that's a best case scenario if we can find a trade partner.

Its cool; I figured that reply was to me.
Who do you like in the mid and late 1st round as an olineman and dlineman? I only ask because I heard this draft isn't well stocked on quality Safeties.
