Adopting A Second Team

My buddy Smitty who is about my age and has been a die hard Skins fan since boyhood told me a year ago that he intentionally adopted a second team to follow in addition to the Skins so he'd enjoy the NFL season more. He suggested I do the same when when I was bitching about the Skins. I remember telling him I have my alma matter winning on Saturdays so I still enjoyed football season but after this year I'm think Smitty might be onto something that I should do also.
Smitty picked the Green Bay Packers some years ago because he feels they are a successful, well run well managed franchise, they don't compete with the Skins and he likes Rogers. Smitty is a Packer Backer in addition to a Skins fan because the Packers are what he wishes the Skin were, a smart franchise. Maybe this is what I need to do take an active interest in another franchise so I got a second team to root for addition to my Skins on NFL Sundays. I stopped buying my season tickets this year so I could get the Sunday ticket and watch another team if the Skins are mailing it in the rest of the season. Maybe I'll adopt the Steelers, I always liked their old school style or maybe the Raven's who have much of the same qualities of the Steelers but are close enough to go a game, I wouldn't even have to get the Sunday ticket to follow the Raven's.
When Smitty told me last year he'd done this a couple of years earlier I thought the idea was lame but it it makes sense to me now. Anyone else do this?

Im all for golfing and getting updates on the course instead of watching our team give up at the end season.. even then I usually put sonny and co on in the cart.
idk.. but seriously the Ravens? The belt way rival?? Couldnt do it!
Rapestburger??

I just can't do it. I don't have any other association or instinct to be associated with any other team. I was going to try the Panthers, since I grew up in NC and went to UNC CHill. I was living in Charlotte the year they started, but even then... I just couldn't get excited about them. For one thing, I don't like their use of the term "Carolina" at all. Where I grew up, "Carolina" meant University of North Carolina. Maybe if they had chosen Charlotte Panthers. And, regardless, the Panthers usually suck as much as the Redskins!

I golfed on some Sunday's and watched the DVR later but it's too cold now so I started thing about Smitty adopting the Packers as a second team. I don't think of the Raven's as a rival. I don't know if I could get into a second team or not but it might make the NFL season more fun. At my age my Skins may never be winners again, I feel so down on Snyder's ownership and the knucklehead choices he makes its hard to imagine things getting good again during my lifetime.

I only "follow" certain teams (underdogs) during the playoffs when the Skins are eliminated. Other than that, I root for whoever is playing the Cowboys and the Ravens from week to week.

So tough, man. Its the Skins or nothing for me. I have a lot of Boston connections and live there for three months of the year. I like to see the Pats do well, but that's painful too. Get tired of our terrible organization being compared to the Krafts'.
Usually once the playoffs start, I just decide which teams I hate the most and don't want to see win. Bye Eagles. Bye Dallas. Suck it, Seahawks. No way am I cheering for Andrew Luck. Manning ruined the super bowl last year, don't want to see him again. That probably leaves me with like... Arizona maybe?

chumps.........

, come on man!!!!
Even though the Skins SUCK, I'm still a skins fan. And yes, I do have certain players around the NFL that I think are studs. I root for them UNLESS they are playing the Skins.

There are usually other teams that I like to see doing well, but the idea of becoming a fan of two NFL teams is strange and repulsive to me. Usually when I watch other games my default is to root for the underdog, and whoever is playing certain teams (NFC East and the Ravens always, and then the current jerks of the league like the Seahawks, the Patriots of several years ago, etc.).
Whatever team you pick, just know that choosing the Ravens is barely any better than deciding that you'll "adopt" the Cowboys as your second favorite team.

Redskins for life.
Yes it is hard to be a fan of this team. So's life, Nancy*.
(*that may have been a bit over the top, but I did it for effect)

I have often felt like we are kindred spirits. Now, I just have to ask, are we related?

The Skins are my heart and soul but since I live in Indianapolis I do support my hometown team the Colts. Skins first, Colts second.

I spend a few weeks fishing salmon in Michigan every year and get to see Detroit and have enjoyed watching them mature and come together, they are no replacement for my Skins but I can give them my respect. I'm glad Stafford they kept Stafford in one piece long enough for the to get him some help. It was brutal for a while.

I usually just pull for players that are or were on one of my fantasy teams. I grew a fondness for Aaron Rodgers over the years so I pull for that guy...and anyone who is playing dallas

joining a fantasy league would be another way to go, I've been asked repeatedly over the years but never wanted to do it, but having my own fantasy team would give me something else to follow and for the first time something I could influence. Maybe I'll join a fantasy league next season.

I'll tell you what - playing fantasy got me back in to keeping track of EVERYBODY and had me on the edge of my seat until the final gun last night. Every last tackle mattered.
I'm paying for it today but it's one of the better night's sleep I ever lost.

People tell me that I should adopt the Texans since I've been down in Houston for sometime now, but I just can't. I can't explain it, but the passion I have for the skins can't be replicated. It is part of me. No other team will do. I hate so much about the organization, but my love for the team just won't go away.
That being said, I have learned to not get as emotionally involved with the team --- mainly in an effort to curb repeated disappointment and frustration. Opting to not schlep over to a bar and watch the STL game was one of the best decisions I made this season....... I've also not given a dime to Danny boy since his first year with the team, which I'm proud of.

No way any of the other teams replicate my passion for the home team but I still have a hierarchy.

Adopt the Cowboys! Cmon guys! Jerry Jones needs a real "parent". LOL. Enjoy the offseason. As bad as it is in Texas, I can be glad we are not as bad as you are (no offense!). Just saying. I don't know what in all honesty to make of your situation.
Have fun. Stay healthy....and 2015 is only a few days away. Best regards to you all! Enjoy the holidays.
I will see you next year!!!

I'd like to see Marvin Lewis and the Bengals do well. Marvin was a class act while with the Redskins, and the Bengals have been mediocre for so long that I'd like to see them overachieve for a change. Hey, kinda like the Redskins, no?
