Gameday Thread: Giants-Redskins

After the first two weeks, I thought we would win this game easily, but the vaGiants, have long been a thorn in our side, and they seem to play their best against us. Still, I have high hopes for tonight. I know the team certainly wants this win a little more, with the crap Mara put us through the last couple of years.

Such a big game for a lot of reasons. 1-3 or 2-2. I know what you're saying that the Giants always seem to reserve their best games for us every year too. This is not a good Giants team though, we need to beat them at home.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how Kirk does tonight too. Would love to see him hang 34 points on the Giants.

I'm not one for saying games are "must win" especially this early in the season, but with Seattle and Arizona on deck, I will be extremely disappointed if we do not beat what is a very bad Giants team. I've been watching this giants team since the pre-season, since I'm in NY and they're on all the time, and they are not a very good team overall. They have a lot of holes in a lot of areas. We should be able to throw up 25+ against what is an average defense at best, and we should be able to pressure Eli into at least 2 picks as their O-line is not what it was. They had a pretty good week last week against the Texans, but our guys should be able to get home for about 4-5 sacks tonight. As long as Specials doesn't screw us as usual, we should take this game down and even our record at 2-2.

It is hard to imagine the Redskins winning the division or making the playoffs without winning this game tonight, I expect a victory. I think Cousins will perform well again and the special teams will not hurt the team this game. We lost Hall and have other guys banged up but I think the defense will play well enough and help the team get to 2-2. This is a must win to stay in the division and playoff race because it's tough to imagine victories against Seattle at home or Arizona on the road if the Skins aren't good enough to beat the Giants at home.

Agreed. I expect an incredibly heavy dose of the butler in this game, with a good amount of play action off of that.

I think that our best chance for beating either Seattle or Arizona is actually the long rest between tonight's game and those 2. Our injury report should look a hell of a lot better by Seattle than it does right now. But I agree, we need this NFC win (and NFC East win) badly.

Good point. Seattle is a Monday night, yeah? So we're getting a ten day break between those games. Let's hope nobody else goes down tonight!

Is Breeland starting for Hall tonight?

This game is going to be more difficult than I originally thought. In order for us to win, we either have to throw up 35 against their DEF or force Eli to make mistakes. The difference in NYG's losses and win was essentially Eli's play. Overall, they don't have a horrible offense; Jennings is a solid RB, Cruz and Randle are a very good 1-2, and Donnell is proving to be a decent pass-catching TE. They have also played a fairly tough schedule thus far with @DET, AZ, and HOU.

Our ability to net 4-5 sacks tonight is totally unrealistic. The NYG OL has given up 5 TOTAL this year --- and that is against 2 of the top 5 defensive teams in the NFL and another that I would consider in the top 10.

And this game, IMHO, is bigger for the NYG than it is for us. Their next 6 games are: ATL, @PHI, @DAL, INDY, @SEA, and SF. There isn't a cupcake on there. If they lose to us tonight, in order for them to salvage their season, they'll need to win at least 3 of those 6 --- which is basically impossible --- and then go 5-1 against DAL, @JAC, @TEN, WAS, @STL, and PHI. For NYG, the NFC East games are must wins. We at least have easy ones vs. Tampa Bay and MIN.

IMHO, these are the things we need to do to win:
1. Win the TO battle. In NY's losses, they are -6. In wins, they are +2.
2. We need to come out gunning. DET and AZ both put up double digit leads early. In NYG's win, they go off to a 17 point lead.
3. Don't screw up on special teams. We have the worse special teams units in the NFL. We screw something up every week, literally.
4. Get pressure on Eli. The NYG OL is better than most think.

I think if anyone on the Giants is going to win the game, it will be Victor Cruz. They can't run the ball on our defense, and outside of Antrel Rolle, their defense can't stop our loaded offense. With D-Hall gone, they'll be looking to air it out to Cruz.

Here's hoping I'm wrong. *knocks on wood*

Gosh I sure hope the Redskins beat the Giants tonight.

If the Skins lose tonight and go 1-3 with Seattle and Arizona coming up, they might be 1-5 in 3 weeks. That would just about flush another season.

If the Skins win tonight and go 2-2, and somehow steal one against Arizona, maybe they can eek out a 3-3 record and are still fighting after 6 weeks.

Tonight is a huge swing game IMHO.

He disagreed with Deion and emphatically said Baker's hit was cheap shot. Cowher is a flippin' mouth breather.
