Baker's hit was perfectly legal, per Troy Vincent...

Someone might want to point out to whiney little Nick Foles that the only cheap shot here was by Jason Peters...
There's a whole lot of press lemmings who owe Chris Baker an apology...

Foles was running towards the ball carrier like a lovelorn Forrest Gump and got crackbacked. If he didn't want to get hit, don't run towards the action. Ejecting Baker was bad enough, but the 15 yard penalty for the hit gave the Iggles 15 yards and a first down. The refs impacted the game in many ways that day. The Iggles "win" should come with an asterisk.

When I saw that play happen I was screaming NOOOO!!!!

I later laughed though. It looked illegal to me. I'm glad it wasn't as bad as I thought but unfortunately it doesn't change the outcome.

I'm positive that the lemming will merely say:

A. Vincent got it wrong
or
B. Vincent got it technically right, but though not illegal, the hit was unnecessary and unsportsmanlike. Mostly because those two things are eminently debatable and opinion driven, no facts are necessary.

Either way, they'll still say whatever they want and call it "critical thinking"

I heard Santana on the radio yesterday shortly after this came out. His comment was something like, "If Foles don't want to get hit on that play, then lay down on the ground and stay out the way." lol.

Its too bad all of the TV idiots complaining about Baker's "cheap shot" on Monday won't be out there apologizing for their stupidity today.

If he doesn't want to get hit, he should switch to checkers

To his credit, Deion Sanders said Sunday night that there was nothing wrong with the hit, and that it was a good play. The others didn't agree, and there was no further discussion on that play, or the ramifications of the call, and certainly no discussion about the other cheap shots the Smeagols took during the game that didn't get flagged (the late hit on DJ's bad shoulder after his first catch, and driving Cousins into the ground after the delay of game).

Now that the NFL has ruled it a legal hit, Peters should get suspended for his actions. You can't just run up and puch a guy in the face for making a legal block on a play, no matter how bad it hurts your feelings.

I see Chip Kelly is still out there crying about it today.

http://espn.go.com/blog/nflnation/post/ ... b-hit-rule

I don't know what he's talking about with his "you can't blindside a player" complaint. The hit wasn't in the back, it was from the side. Does Baker have to wait for Foles to notice he is there before he blocks him?

Kelly generally has not complained about league rules or officials’ calls. His approach has been for his players to know the rules and play within them. So it was fairly unusual for Kelly to react this way to a league ruling. That suggests legitimate confusion about the league’s interpretation here and a desire to make sure the Eagles are coached appropriately.

“We’re hands off on the quarterback,” Kelly said. “That’s the way we’ve interpreted the rule.”

So what about the body slam on Cousins after the whistle?

There was no penalty, as the unecessary roughness on Baker, and the unsportsmanlike on Peters offset. They were the result of a play that was declared an incompletion, so both occured as dead ball fouls... the ball was reset at the original line of scrimmage. I believe they did not replay the down, but I'm not sure about that.

yeah... just for the record, as you can see from the frame by frame, it was a textbook block... squarely in the front of the chest, on the numbers.... and while Baker approached from the side, he was well within Foles range of vision... all he has to do is look a little to his right, and he see's Baker, and can protect himself. It's not Baker's job to make sure that Foles sees him.

Bob learned last year that, in order to avoid these hits, he had to declare himself out of the play... Foles is learning this just a little bit later.

I guess next time Foles will have his head on a swivel. Players need to try and look both ways before running up the field, at that angle, when guys are very likely to be on the other side of your vision just waiting to knock your block off.

I was once hit in the exact same way. I was playing tackle without pads on a lawn at the University of Maryland with some 20-ish year olds. I seemed to be the only guy on my team willing to tackle a certain fella. As I pursued a sweep and prepared to lower the boom on the runner, I got "blind sided" by a dude who had about 30 pounds on me. I was devastated and we lost on that play but I was not angry at the blocker. They called and executed a good play and he blew me up.

Chip Kelly and anyone else on that team calling that block dirty is just being a wuss.

:-({|=

Now if only we'd frickin' won. ;furious;
