RGIII Out Possibly Only A Month

Now that the MRI has come back negative, Robert could be out as little as just a month. If Cousins beats Philly, the Giants, and competes with the Seahawks. As RGIII returns where do we go. Thoughts?

I don't think he'd be back that soon. If lucky Late November. At 3 the Redskins are going to talk to the media on how long he'll be out.
Gruden will have a difficult decision to make. Maybe Cousins will make it easier for him playing great or poorly.

He will NOT be back in a month. Best case 6-8 weeks... still more likely... 8-10. Dislocation = significant ligamental injury. Ligaments take forever to heal. Beyond that, this joint will forever be at risk for re-injury.

That really depends on how Cousins beats those teams. Does he actively contribute, or do we win because of some great defensive or special teams play?

A win is a win. You roll with the hot hand, no matter what, IMO.

Thank God it wasn't as bad as we feared. Rest up, RGIII, and get better soon.

I'm with you - let's let Cousins handle things for a month or 2 and as Griffin gets well enough we can make decisions on what best for everyone going forward
I certainly am not advocating for anything until after we see how things go with the recovery and with what's happening on the field

I feel like people are way too ahead of themselves on this. Not just fans but the media. It seems like there's almost this assumption that Cousins is about to go on a 7-1 winning streak and then what is there to do about Griffin?
I'd love to see 7-1 over the next two months, but just have a feeling it won't be anything so clear cut.
Anyway, I'm glad the injury doesn't seem to be as serious as first thought.

Where are you hearing a month?
I haven't heard that from anyone.
This team needs to cross one bridge at a time.

That's the point of my question. "Just how hot is that hand?" makes a difference.

Kirk played very well against the Jags, a mediocre team outscored 58-0 in 6 straight quarters, on the way to 24-78 in 2 games this season. Also a team that prepared all week to play against RG3.
Now that teams prepare for Kirk, lets see how things go. In the last 3 games of last season Kirk wasn't stellar to say the least. I'm all the wayrouting for Kirk to do well and sadly, also think RG3 won't be back this year... If he does, THEN the team can evaluate what to do, depending on what the chances are, if the season is lost, if there is a chance to make the playoffs, how well/poorly Kirk has played, etc. Until then, GO REDSKINS!!!!
HaiL,

It's very possibly that RG's NFL career is over, at least as the RGIII as we know him. His ankle will never be the same.

I think if RGIII comes back it will be Week 11 after the bye week. If this is the case in my opinion who ever is the QB in that Week 11 game will be the present and future QB of the Washington Redksins. If this is not the scenrio then I will support the decision of the team and who they decide is the QB. So sadly I guess this is what im saying. If Cousins is playing well and is leading us forward to the playoffs I think it would be hard not to let Cousins be the QB going forward and in the future. So its Cousins job to win or lose. This kills me!!

People are definitely getting ahead of themselves. We didn't just go from a 3-13 team to a 13-3 team because our best QB got injured. I want Cousins to play like Manning as much as anyone, but I'm also not going to lose my temper if he doesn't. Even going .500 with our backup QB, for as long as he plays, would be an accomplishment.

EXACTLY. I think its even possible Cousins could go .500 or worse and still look like the better QB. ex. If the defense starts getting torched by Philly, Seattle, etc; We're going to have to see how it plays out.
Big weekend coming up. I can't wait to see this game on Sunday!!!

Cousins doesn't need to play like Manning, and it's never going to happen, since only a handful of QBs in the history of the game have achieved that lofty level. Kirk just needs to play like the "good" Kirk, and avoid the mistakes the "bad" Kirk has made in the past limited play he's had.
Now I'm saddened that RG3 has suffered another setback. He's a great kid and marvilously talented. Unfortunately for him, as far as transitioning to an NFL QB is concerned, Robert is still a struggling rookie, because no such transition was even attempted in his rookie year. Worse yet, Robert will always be measured against the 2012 RG3 where he lit the field on fire and set the bar so high by playing so reckless, and using his running skills as a major element of his game.
Last year, by necessity, this style of play was severely limited, and that drastically limited his success. Add in the constant drama, the poor play of the rest of the team, and what was ultimately a lame duck coaching staff, and a brand new regime and a new offensive system taking over this past off season, the transition restarted (began). Apparently, from reports behind the scene, as well as lackluster performance in the preseason, rumor circulated that Cousins was adapting more quickly, and fit the new system better. And for anyone truly paying attention, we could all see the poor mechanics of RG3 during the preseason which was on display and never corrected last year. So combine a new system, a transition to a pocket passer with uncorrected faulty mechanics (fundamentals) which should have been addressed/fixed last year, the less than optimal results are not surprising. So the question is the same question that many pondered when the Redskins were contemplating drafting RG3! Can this talented kid make the transition from a spread college offense to an NFL offense. That question was THE BIGGEST QUESTION when debating who was the better pick in 2012, Luck, or RG3. No one questioned RG3's talent and athletic ability ... just whether or not he would be able to transition to atraditional pocket passer such that Luck already was. So far, the answer is no, he has not made that transition.
This recent injury to RG3 is a hidden gift to Gruden who now doesn't have to make that very difficult and politically unwinnable decision of whether to continue the growing pains of RG3's transition, or make the switch to the less talented but better fit to the scheme, Cousins. Gruden is off the hot seat ... if Cousins fails, they simply resume the grooming of RG3 when he's healthy. If Cousins continues to play well, and the Redskins are winning, nobody could criticize Gruden for sticking with Cousins.
The next 5-6 weeks will be very interesting to watch unfold.

Sucks, but this is completely true. I know even as a fan that I'll enjoy seeing what Cousins can do without having to endure the weekly debate of which QB should be starting.

They need to keep him out for the rest of the year, this kid is like peanut brittle.
I have no idea how he survived a winter here without the weather crushing him.
I bet one hard breeze will dislocate his elbow.
Rest my child, rest.

I hope (& pray) that Cousins plays as well as he possibly can - I want Jay Gruden to use this opportunity to find out for himself (and to show everyone) how good our back up QB is - this is a great opportunity for Cousins to show what he can do against some really good teams - it does not matter if we win or lose as long as he plays great
when Griffin is ready to play again, Gruden will be able to make the clear choice about which QB gives the team the best chance to win
I am looking forward to seeing Griffin starting games at QB for the Redskins again
get well soon RG3

SJ, I think Cousins will do just fine.
For him it's a chance to give the Redskins ammo to trade him before he leaves when his contract is up.
I'm 100% ready for the "Who Do The Redskins Keep" controversy at the end of the season.. after we win the SB.. vs Broncos.. again.

+1 - I must admit I was a little worried about his progress as the type of QB that Gruden wants him to be and also whether these guys would allow him the freedom he needs to make plays like he can ...
we all saw a glimpse of both this last game - Griffin will be fine and he will be the starting QB for the Redskins when he's ready

Let's all just see how this plays out. We don't know the extent of the injury, we don't know how well Cousins will play. No need to invent controversy at this point, because there is none. RG3 is injured and Cousins is starting.

Ok...hmm.
Peanut brittle is delicious.
LPJ thinks RG3 is peanut brittle.
Therefore, LPJ thinks RG3 is delicious?

I don't eat NUTS so I don't know how it tastes.
And why not invent controversy? We are fans, that's what we do.
It's our job to have these discussions, it's a daily topic in the area.
