So, what is the best way to remain a Redskin fan. LOWER OUR EXPECTATION

Todays game was disappointing and may/may not be an indication of what to expect. I hate to lose, but I am a Redskin fan. Again this year, I will lower my expectations and then when they win it will be a pleasant surprise.

Also, play fantasy so you have something else to focus on (not that this always helps ).

Yup fantasy sports, lower my expectations so I don't get as mad. Eventually, the team will get it together. Realistically with the offense we're a year or two away from serious playoff contenders.

First off - we're greatly improved from what we saw last season - winning 9 games is a realistic season

we have a number of good players and despite what some here felt about the O line, many of us knew they were going to be horrible until we can find a way to replace EVERYONE except Trent Williams

WE FINALLY SEE WHAT A GOOD QB WE HAVE - this kid is only going to get better despite the O line

Yeah, at lest we have a good nucleus to build on. I still think a year or two we can be a serious threat for the superbowl

Also I want to mention something. Being a Redskins fan is cake compared to being a 76ers fan. Yes, I'm a sixer fan and we set up a bad team to lose so we can build for the future. Teams in Washington DC and Philadelphia, weird I know lol. Redskins are my only DC team for any sport.

If you're struggling with remaining a fan and you have to lower your expectations to remain one, you aren't, actually

That's pretty good advice, although we do have a home game against Jacksonville next week. My expectations will be high for that game.

Kazoo - I have been a Redskin fan for 50+ yrs. going back to the days of Norm Snead. Once you have watched season after season of losing, maybe you will understand my position. One other point, I have stopped buying Redskin merchandise until Snyder puts together a winning franchise. Now, it seems he is laughing all the way to the bank as fanatical fans continue spending on Redskin merchandise. The last Jersey I bought was J. Jacoby.

We got a Joe Jacoby (Williams) and what we need is a Russ Grimm and Bostic and Mark May and even I wish for a Starke at this point.

Joe Jacoby will always be my favorite hog. I met him up at the MLB all-star game in 1999 in Boston. Him and I were on the same package. Very nice guy. One helluva lineman!

Ha ha. Funny you say that. When I was a young lawless deviant I remember doing an eat and run and there he was. I literally ran right into him. I said wow you should be a Redskin. He looked down on me and said " I am a Washington Redskin"

Oh well so I was stupid. Still am, but all the same it was a moment to remember.

I've never understood why people get so angry when the Skins lose. Even when we are pretty terrible, there is always some player giving it his all on the field that you can enjoy watching. There are always "sub-plots" to the season that you can follow and (even when we lose) smaller victories you can savor. Do you enjoy watching one of our linemen pancake a defender, or seeing our RB tear off back-to-back 10-yard runs, or superb play at safety? How about exquisite play-calling? Does excellence in athletic ability and technical football skill ever catch your eye, or does it only matter if we score more points than someone else?

Some games and seasons are more forgettable than others, but why be a fan of the team or football generally if anything less than a deep playoff run leaves you feeling nothing but frustrated?

Anyway, rant over. I just don't get it. I suppose I should just enjoy the fact that I love watching football, and especially the Redskins, whatever the outcome of a season.

I understand and agree with your point BUT, I hate losing. Even though the Redskins might lose it was a lot more enjoyable for me when Sonny, Charlie Taylor, Bobby Mitchell, Jerry Smith working together would put 30 pts on the board.

Eat lots of bacon twice a day. Wil shorten your life span and end the suffering faster!

Good post, man. I hate it when we lose but this is still my favorite time of the year getting to watch our team play every weekend.

Honestly though, the reason I hate it when we lose is because I know I'm going to have to listen to the fans and the local media beat the team up for the next seven days until we play again. Its unavoidable. I always wonder if its like that in other areas?

To be fair, there have been some times when fans had the right to be angry after losses. The Deion/Bruce Smith year comes to mind. Some of the Spurrier and Zorn games. That playoff game against the Bucs in 2000. It kind of seems like fans are just angry at the team like that ALL THE TIME after every loss.

For me its not even a choice, I couldn't switch teams if I tried. I put on a ring on this team as soon as I was old enough to like football and no matter how bad it gets I still love them.

Just the mention of Joe Jacoby mists my eyes up, I'd watch him pull his helmut on to go back out and you could actually feel the pain the man was in. Tip a beer with Riggins at Margrets Inn, yell at Manly riding a moped in a stupor on his way to visit Charles Mann who lived next to my shop or listen to Ken Harvey tear up some trees and with his bulldozer after a bad game. There just ain't no other bunch of guys that can replace them.
To enjoy the good game you really have to suffer the bad ones too.

So clearly, there are no other options besides being a Redskin fan.
