Winslow Disappoints

From Profootballtalk rumor mill:

The Washington Redskins, who are looking for reasons not to select Kellen Winslow, II, with the fifth overall pick in the draft given his decision to sign with the Poston brothers, found more ammo for their likely decision to shy away from the former Miami Hurricane earlier this week.

A league source tells us that Winslow's visit to the Redskins was a major disappointment.

Winslow, per the source, was late for meetings -- including his meeting with head coach Joe Gibbs. We're told that Winslow otherwise was unimpressive in his sessions with the powers-that-be.

This development will do little to prompt the Redskins to overlook Winslow's choice of the Postons as his agents. The Postons are on the outs with the 'Skins given their allegations that the team scuh-rewed linebacker LaVar Arrington out of $6.5 million in his December 2003 contract extension.

Winslow will be better than Shockey and just as much of a pain in the a off the field.

Seriously, I just don't see this type of personality fitting on a Joe Gibbs team. If you think about the guys on Gibb's superbowl teams there were very few ME ME ME type players. I'm not surprised at all that Winslow didn't impress him.

This guy is a loser as far as personality and maturity. I am sure you all remember one of his post game interviews where he just flew off the hook and lost any professional bearing he may have. As far as his "I am a soldier" theme or whatever he thinks he is---he is outside of his mind. I lost any respect for him with that. He wouldn't last a second as a "Soldier" with that piss poor attitude.

I like him as a player - but the Postons kill the possibility for me and Vinny :0). He's got plenty of talent. In the right system, he's going to be very good. But as he slides back in the draft - it may make a huge impact later. As for attitude, sometimes it comes with the territory as a young star. Maturity takes hold of poeple at different times and in different ways. It might not get him until his football career is over - but I think a couple years in the NFL will prove to be a positive for Winslow. The good thing is - I doubt he'll be in the NFC East.

BTP--you are on it once again. The Poston's already got one of our players crying the blues. All we need is another cry baby represented by them.

HAHAHHAA. I forgot he was the nut on ESPN crying like a little girl. He's a pansy, "Im a soldier", lmao, Ur nothing but a big stupid guy playing a childs game. He's no soldier, they're over seas in IRAQ. I don't like his attitude. I still want TAYLOR!!!

winslow is a stud! I think he would make the most overall difference out of anybody we could draft. With the brains that are on our coaching staff, winslow would be unstopable. I think we need a little spice here in dc and he would bring that. You cant get on a guy for on bad interview after a bad game.

We don't need Winslow. We don't need his attitude. We don't even need his talents. In Gibbs offense the TE and H-back are very important postions but the TE is a block 1st catch passes 2nd kind of guy. I doubt Don Warren ever caught 20 passes in a year while Gibbs was here. The H-back also blocks 1st but he is more likely to catch a pass, that being said Clint Didier never made a Pro Bowl and I don't think ever caught more than 50 passes. He would make big plays but usually it was a surprise pass on a 3rd or 4th and short.

The TE and H-back on a Gibbs team have to put personal accomplishments behind team needs. I don't think Winslow will do that. Give me Taylor.

Not only did he catch 20 passes in a season, he did it 5 times in a row (3 under Gibbs) then he went on do catch 20 in 86, but he came darned close in 84.

Still, if we had Winslow, he'd be used to the best of his abilities, and that means catching passes and running over linebackers.

I think Warmother was saying "20" as a figure of speech.... Of course there was a couple of years where Donnie barely got over 20 catches..... but he never had Tony Gonzalez type years posting 70 plus catches..... Your expecting Winslow to get Tony Gonzalez type numbers....and Warmother is saying that he's not gonna get those numbers in Gibbs Offense.....frankly, I agree with him..... Draft Taylor.... we have enough offensive fire power to win....
