Taylor the next Lott?
There are a few teams who believe that University of Miami safety Sean Taylor may be the best prospect at his position since Ronnie Lott was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in 1981. Lott, you may remember, started at cornerback before being moved to free safety.

One team's pre-draft research has been so complete that it asked several retired scouts, who saw Lott and ex-Seahawks safety Kenny Easley play in college, to compare their notes and thoughts on those two players against Taylor. "We are seeking a comparison because a few of our scouts think Taylor also has the ability to play cornerback if he had to," said one personnel director.
Depending how next weekend's draft falls, Taylor figures to be selected in the top five, especially if the Redskins remain at the fifth spot. But Washington is currently thinking of making a deal with the Raiders, who pick second, in order to draft Iowa offensive tackle Robert Gallery. If they do that, Washington is expected to deal current left tackle Chris Samuels, who has refused to re-work his contract.
Comparing Taylor to Lott is extremely high praise, considering Lott is considered one of pro football's all-time great players. Lott is listed on everyone's Top 10 list of all-time defensive players.
"Roy Williams has proven to be a very good player for the Cowboys, but Taylor is better," said a NFC scout. "I'd say he's a lot better."
The Detroit Lions reportedly covet Taylor and won't pass on him.
The interesting dilemma for the Lions, though, is if Kellen Winslow, the Miami tight end, is also still available. The Lions would have an extremely tough decision to make because they also need Winslow to improve their offense. The Lions are convinced they can find a running back later in the draft
