Seemed inevitable. Not a bad price for one year, but I'd like to see him here long-term, of course.

Kerrigan seems like the kind of guy who would play hard regardless of contract circumstances. So I am happy they gave him some cash. Should be less of a distraction for him so he can focus that much more on football.

If I understand it correctly, Kerrigans contract will now expire the year AFTER next.. adding an extension, however, is always an option we can negotiate at any time.

Redskins OLB Ryan Kerrigan said he wants to be with the team for years to come.

Kerrigan has two years left on his deal after the Redskins exercised his 2015 option for $7.038 million. But he says "hopefully after that," he'll be in D.C. "even longer."

Kerrigan has 24.5 sacks through three seasons, never finishing a season with fewer than 7.5 or more than 8.5. As long as he keeps producing at a steady clip, Kerrigan should have no trouble netting a healthy payday.
