Saints cut 2-time Pro Bowl SS Roman Harper

Saints released SS Roman Harper.

DE Will Smith's release cleared $11.55 million in cap space, while Harper's saves the Saints $2.18 million. Harper, a two-time Pro Bowl selection, was part of a safety rotation along with Kenny Vaccaro and Malcolm Jenkins for much of last season. He performed well in the playoffs but is 31 years old and battled a knee injury in 2013. Harper joins a crowded free-agent safety market and will likely have to settle for a one- or two-year deal with little-to-no guaranteed money.

He makes plays. He's 31. He'd be cheap for a year or two and could show some guys what it takes.

We interested at all?

If we aren't, we should be.

I'm interested only because it seems cheap and its SS. I think we could either get something out of Phillip Thomas, or if nothing else, bring Meriweather back pretty cheap to compete at SS. At FS, I'm hoping we sign somebody pretty serious because we haven't had a safety that can cover since Sean Taylor.
