Gardener a Bengal

O'Neal will not be the only former Bronco in Cincinnati this season. The Bengals have reached agreement with defensive tackle Daryl Gardener on a four-year, incentive-laden, $9.3 million contract that will be announced this week.

The Broncos will release Gardener after June 1, at which point he officially will be allowed to sign with the Bengals. Cincinnati coach Marvin Lewis was Gardener's defensive coordinator in Washington.

He's going to the Bengals. That's one less defensive tackle that will be available after June 1st.

Isn't there some sort of rule against a player agreeing to a contract with a team before he is a free agent? If the Redskins had pulled this off, every sports media outlet in the country would allege tampering against the Redskins and run it as their lead story.

I'm guessing the Bengals asked for permission to speak to the Broncos about Gardener first.

I like Darryl but his attitude is a real problem. I am glad we didn't sign him because he is too much of a loose cannon. I have had my fill of players with the character of the Dallas Cowboys.

He was also the best defensive lineman we have had in over a decade. I haven't had my fill of those players...

Not if the player has been given permission. We did the same thing with Phillip Daniels.

Hey Jake did you think Shanahan would say no to the Ben-Gals request to talk to DG? Shanahan probably paid for the call, packed his bags and drove him to the airport.

DG is not and would not fit in DC with Gibbs as coach, no way, no how.

You guys ever see him up close? This dude has arms that are bigger than my thighs ( and I got big thighs) and long. He can reach over the line and sack the QB before the QB can get the snap.

Too bad his attitude has caused problems in other towns.

Watch the Ben-Gals this year. They have made some good moves and if they can get some picks for Dillon... watch out next year.

I thought he was great here. I had no problems with Gardner. I also didn't have a problem when we released him, because we couldn't afford him and our other acquisitions last season. I was ecstatic that we let him go after the waffle house rumble which left him with wrist injuries. He was a great team player for one season, but nothing but problems in his other seasons with Miami and Denver. I am glad he went somewhere else.
