Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter 2h
What Washington wanted: Redskins QB Robert Griffin III will start their Monday night opener against the Eagles.

Schefter's tweet has caused quite a stir this morning on sports radio. While I remain confident that RGIII will play Monday night, I think this is more a case of a news reporter wanting to "report first" on the topic rather than Robert getting officially cleared.
I will patiently wait for the official word from Dr. Andrews and then the final ok from Mike Shanahan on the matter.

I know this is coming from "sources close to the quarterback", but obviously GREAT news if true.
And seriously, walking away from that playoff game last year, who could imagine this kid would have himself in position to actually start the first game of this season? Its amazing.

ABSOLUTELY - when I saw that leg in the last game - I was sure that we had 'lost' our QB, and that he would not be able to play at the same level again
we now 'know' (at least we think we 'know') that the surgery not only repaired the ligament damage but also 'addressed' issues from a previous surgery and the use of stem cells aided in the recovery process
we are incredibly fortunate to have RG3 back on the field, leading our team again
it does appear that ESPN wants to 'push' this Monday night opener as much as it can

Why wouldn't they? It would be a good draw, even in an uneventful year, but there are a bunch of side stories going into this game that will really amp up the coverage.

no worries - ESPN is just doing it's thing as usual - for the Redskins fans IT IS a great starting game for the season ...
12 days ...

If the team is in Tampa already I'd say the report is accurate.. Andrews was going to make the call when they got to FL.

Dr Andrews is just the first step - he can clear RG3 to play but Mike makes the final call ...

Yep.
All seems a bit premature but I had to post the "breaking news."
[knocking on wood] Suppose Griff has a "setback" between now and MNF? [/knocking on wood]

Well obviously... He is the head coach. Mike was quoted saying if Dr Andrews gives the thumbs up in Tampa then griff would start. I think they mentioned it vs buffalo.... So its my guess the doc liked what he saw, and I doubt mike has seen different in practice.

I think I even read on ESPN yesterday that the Dr. Andrew's visit was just a formality. He's been cleared to play already, Dr. Andrews is just re-checking him to confirm that everything is still good.

OK - I understand what you're all saying and I've always felt that RG3 would start the 1st game ...
recently, Mike has made it
very clear (maybe just to me) that no matter what the Dr or RG3 say or think - the decision on whether RG3 plays is his alone ..
let me take it one more step - Mike has indicated that the Dr could clear him medically and he could still decide not to start him in the 1st game ...
it's not going to matter - I've decided that RG3 is starting QB against the Eagles - that's all that matters ...
to me

I realize my first post indicated Dr Andrews was calling the shots, that's my fault. Didn't mean to put it that way...
It was more.like Shanny has him on his schedule to start week one, barring any set backs, and as long as Dr Andrews cleared him and an MRI gave the feedback he needed that schedule would remain intact. To be perfectly clear we all are in agreence with the head coach making the head coach decisions

thanks - no worries here ...
for what it's worth ... I just heard that despite the medical clearance from Dr Andrews, Mike has still NOT cleared him .. give me a break

I'm sure at this point that's Coach trying to make the Eagles prepare for two different QBs, right??? lol.

I have to agree - I cannot imagine Mike putting Griffin on the field if he has even the slightest concern ...

Finally! as we all expected ...
Shanahan said Griffin can do anything that needs to be done -- whether that's rolling out, sprinting, making cuts, standing and throwing in the pocket, or running the read option.
"If we didn't feel like Robert was full-go and able do all the things he can be asked to do, he wouldn't be in this game,”
OK - that's what I have been waiting to hear - RG3 is able to do whatever it takes to help this offense go
looking forward to seeing RG3 running our offense again

Am I the only one who won't be able to breathe properly next Monday?

Next Monday? I'm having difficulty right now just waiting for Monday. I have a golf tournament that day and am quite concerned about my concentration level.

What's odd is, all these people talking about Robert being rusty and getting acclimated to game speed.
Have they forgotten last year he walked into a hostile Superdome as a rookie with limited pre-season snaps and lit it the -F- up?
Have they forgotten that his knee is currently better than it was at any point since the Ravens game, and he was still an effective QB after that.
Have they forgotten that this kid thrives in big games, when the spotlight is brightest and people doubt him the most.
Have they forgotten he has a full season under his belt and another offseason to get more comfortable with this offense that is returning all the same starters.
My only concern is that some idiot from the Eagles will take a cheap shot at his knee.
If that doesn't happen, I predict he has his best game as an NFL quarterback to date.
