Redskins DE Carriker having another surgery

Redskins DE Adam Carriker will undergo another surgery on his torn quadriceps on Thursday.
He's out indefinitely. Carriker has experienced numerous setbacks as he recovers from last year's injury, and opened camp on the PUP list. He'll also likely now open the season on reserve/PUP, costing Carriker the first six games. Stephen Bowen and Jarvis Jenkins will be Washington's Week 1 starting ends.

Ryan leaf... Jamarcaus Russell... That's my definition of a bust. I'd call this more of a shame. Guess you could call Rak a bust by your terms then, right?
My point is Adam has heart, wants to play, and was playing very well for us before he got hurt. Fat Al chose to piss away his talent... Adam and Thiesman got hurt trying to display that talent.
Bust? No.

They swapped 5th round picks and gave up a 7th round pick to the Rams for Carriker.

And, I wouldn't even analogize Orakpo as a bust based on OP logic. Carriker has missed (almost all of) one year and is well on his way to missing another after not being fully health. Orakpo, on the other hand, has missed all but 2 games last year. Only.

Unrelated to the point, Orakpo is also our best defensive player (Coffield is a close second in my opinion). Carriker is important to us, but not nearly as much as Brian (to the extent that you can compartmentalize one player on the team from another).

What metric are you using to determine at what point a ROI has been achieved?

We moved back 12 (?) spots in the 5th round of the 2010 draft and lost a 7th round pick for a guy who then played 2 complete, full seasons at no less than a competent level. Got hurt in game 2 of season 3 and won't be back before game 6 this year. I'm not sure how much expectation you have when you pick up a guy for a seventh round pick, but I know it can't possibly be high enough to consider even a total failure of realization to equal a bust. In fact, you could more credibly argue that the Redskins got a steal and have out gained any reasonable ROI projection.

Rak is relevant.. he tore a pec muscle the year before.. it was more of a get real, type of analogy

A talk of him being a bust is ludicrous!

He's been in the league six years. I'd hardly call him a bust because he got injured for one season.

No way. He had 1 OK yr (2010) considering the mess at NT that yr & 1 very good yr (2011). Given what we gave up for him, we have already got more than our money's worth.

This man bust his arse for us the moment he got here. He had an injury, has worked diligently to come back and has had setbacks. These things happen, it's football. It happened to Rak. It's happened to Carriker and Keenan.

Let's reward their diligence and hard work ethic with some faith. And let's not send the message that the moment you get hurt, you'll get cut to the rest of the team.

How hard do you expect guys to push themselves if they have to worry about being released if they're injured?

This isn't pointed at you specifically but to fans in general. This isn't Madden, these are real people with families and livelihoods. These are relationships and levels of trust that each have with one another.

He's got a Option bonus coming up next year that the team never planned on paying, so if he doesn't show something this year they may not even talk to him next year about staying with the team under different terms.

If that's built into his contract than so be it. Hopefully he makes it back.

Is this a joke? We gave up little to get him, he had a good year for us. Then he got injured but I'm not aware we're giving up on him yet. What possibly would you call him a "bust" based on? Even if we cut him now how could you call that a "bust?"
