I recommend 42, the recent movie, which is inspired by the much earlier movie "The Jackie Robinson Story" (sometimes word for word in the dialogue). 
It is a modern re-adaptation for a new generation of sports fans of a great story known to the previous generations.
Well worth the money even if you saw the previous movie (now in YouTube with a few ads if you do not want to pay for an old movie). Harrison Ford makes for once after several flops) a very convincing version of Rickey, the owner of the Brooklyn Dodgers at the time.
