Some pretty cool stats here:

Right now, the Redskins lead the NFL in rushing, something they have never done in their history. They’re never even been runner-up.

In a season when Minnesota’s Adrian Peterson may break the NFL season rushing record, the Redskins, thanks to Alfred Morris and Robert Griffin III, actually have the league’s best ground attack; they may break the team record set in 1983 by an offense that included John Riggins and Joe Washington. It’ll be close.

The Redskins also lead the NFL in yards per play, both rushing and passing combined (6.2). Washington has never done that either. That 6.2 mark would be in the top 10 in NFL history, a first for a Mike Shanahan-coached team.

The Redskins also have thrown the fewest interceptions and have committed the fewest turnovers (13) in the league. At their current pace, they would have just 15 turnovers for the season, breaking the franchise record set by the Super Bowl-winning 1991 team.

On Sunday, the Redskins meet the worst turnover team, the Eagles (34). Is that just who these two teams are? Is some reversion to the mean due? This season, the Redskins lost both times they committed more than just one turnover.

Why are the Redskins so much better this year? Last season (Rex Grossman), the Redskins had 34 turnovers, second to last in the league. Who’s new this year? RGIII has just four interceptions and Morris has lost just two fumbles. And they touch the ball far more than anyone else.

By the pass-crazed standards of the current NFL, the Redskins seldom throw the ball, 30th out of 32 teams in attempts. Yet the Redskins are the second-most efficient team when they do pass. It hardly seems fair. They rush for more yardage than anyone (165 yards per game), but when they pass, their quarterback rating (103.6) barely trails Green Bay with Aaron Rodgers.

A clearly defined strength, if undermined successfully, quickly becomes vulnerability. Only one defense has held the Redskins to fewer than 122 yards rushing: Pittsburgh (86). But the resulting 15-point loss was also the only game Washington has lost by more than eight points.

This shows that Mike Shanahan was building this team from day 1 to be good or great for the long haul (AND THAT HE KNEW PRECISELY WHAT HE WAS DOING) and that every fan who wanted to whine and cry about every damn thing under the sun, are bums. Every fan who spent the last year plus saying, "it sure looks like they're getting better in o-line cohesion, you have to give receivers time to grow and mature, TRENT WILLIAMS IS SHOWING SIGNS, etc., kudos to you.

Oh and THANK YOU DANIEL SNYDER FOR DOING THINGS THE RIGHT WAY, EVEN IF NO ONE WANTS TO ADMIT IT. I guess it's just easier to clutch our pearls and condemn you for deion sanders and bruce smith some more. "Heh heh, come to washington for a fat paycheck, all snyder cares about is making a big splash." Yeah, I got your meddling owner right here.

Sorry, it is just sooooooo nice to be proven right and to get vindication for sticking with your team, again. Finally. I can't wait till next year when we start also just beating the breaks off of teams.

Last year's draft was special. The Skins had the best draft by far.

This year's draft is not too shabby either

+1. Love it. Its SO NICE for a change to see the haters, know it alls, MMQBs, and everybody who thought they knew more than the super bowl winning coach with decades of coaching experience all proven to be the loudmouth idiots they are.

I will take a small exception with your day one comment though. I still think Shanahan underestimated the Redskins project a little bit when he took over, resulting in the McNabb deal. I'm a big Shanahan supporter, but I bet that's a decision he'd love to have back.

I also like what has happened here - I agree that Mike & Kyle made a mistake with McNabb but they had to do something because they would not have lasted more than 1 season with Campbell at QB ...

Bruce and Mike have done well here and we're seeing the difference between having idiots manage things and having a FO with a plan

who could have predicted such a quick turnaround

we are VERY fortunate and these guys have handled the inevitable miscues by learning from it and trying to do the best they can

I don't think he regrets it as much as some fans do

that's fair. I still contend it was the right idea to grt mcnabb given the incorrect underestimate of what it would take. But yes he didn't realize how bad the team was. Although that screw up turned into Alfred Morris, so net net, I'd say shanahan won that too

The McNabb deal doesn't indicate that at all. A second round pick is not a high price to pay for a starting quarterback at all. We had no quarterbacks if you recall, and a developing offense needs a decent quarterback to develop the rest of the offense whether or not they are the long range solution or not.

riggofan wrote:I'm a big Shanahan supporter, but I bet that's a decision he'd love to have back.

True, but if you list the decisions of every head coach, including Gibbs and Lombardi, there will be plenty of decisions in that category as well. The good part of it was he only used a #2 and that was when we had no QB option at all. It's certainly not going to be near the top of his list when he packs it in.

That the Eagles gave a division opponent their starting QB for a #2 told everyone he wasn't at the peak of his career anymore. It was a sound decision ex-ante. And the alternative to not doing the deal would have been a miserable season as well. Just because we got two good QB's in one draft doesn't contradict the few good QB's we got over decades of drafts.
