Skins To Meet With Cooley Next Week

Apparently the door is still open for a possible return for Chris

ey. Bruce Allen confirmed as much and says the team will meet with

ey next week. Per CBA rule changes, if

ey is on the roster prior to week 1, his full 2012 salary would be guaranteed. There is no such guarantee if he is signed next week.
I would welcome him back obviously, but would be interested in learning who would be cut if he's re-signed.

The Washington Redskins have left open the possibility of re-signing veteran tight end Chris

ey and plan to meet with him next week, General Manager Bruce Allen said Friday.
Allen made those comments during an appearance at the National Press Club.
“Yes, absolutely that door is still open,” Allen said, according to the team. “We have a meeting next week.”[

I'd like to see him back. There is no way they would keep 4 TEs, so I assume either Paul or Paulsen would be let go.
Given that Davis and

ey are "receiver first" TEs, I'm pretty sure they would move Paul to the practice squad.

That won't be hard...we can start with "Look Ma...No Hands" Niles Paul

During the emotional press conference announcing his release from the Redskins, tight end Chris

ey was careful to say that it was his last day with the team “for now.”
That suggested the possibility of a return to Washington at a salary well below the $3.8 million he was scheduled to make this season. There’s some more fuel on that fire Friday after Redskins General Manager Bruce Allen said that the team has been talking to

ey since he got dropped near the end of August.
“Yes, absolutely that door is still open,” Allen said, via the team’s Twitter account. “We have a meeting next week.”
The timing works out a little better for the Redskins than

ey. By waiting until after Week One, the Redskins won’t need to guarantee

ey’s salary for the entire season although their desire to bring him back suggests that the problem was his salary and not his ability to still contribute to the team.

ey’s had time to get a sense of what kind of market there is for his services, which he can use to negotiate his way back to familiar surroundings in D.C.
There’s plenty of other teams who might like to avail themselves of the non-guaranteed salary, especially if they lose a key tight end this weekend, so it’s early to start rewriting

ey’s name onto the Redskins roster. It wouldn’t be surprising if it still winds up happening, though.
Would be awesome if this happens.

Kind of want to see

ey go to a team where he gets plenty of playing time. It would be nice if that was the Skins, but I can't see it.
Of course if Niles keeps suffering from Carlos Stone Hands disease, maybe

ey would get more playing time.
Who would you cut?
I love

ey, but if they can find a decent OT to bring in I would prefer that, because our back up OT situation scares the me to death.

Well played sir.
I think Paul's special teams value keeps him on the team. If you look at Shannon Sharpe's early stats, I think MS will give Paul time to develop at the TE position. He's gone on record comparing him to a young Sharpe.
The Seahawks may be making a similar play on Kellen Winslow.

I don't know who we can afford to release in favor of

ey. Perhaps Crezdon Butler but he's a special teams player. It would be tough. Niles Paul is big on Teams too. Jordan Black is a guy who would probably clear waivers, but as of right now, he's our primary swing backup Tackle.

ey is a luxury we may not be able to afford.

There are no decent OT's out there right now. If there were, they're most likely Vets who would face similar non-guaranteed contracts just like

ey will be dealing with.
As for

ey, I think he'll be back and Paulsen will be on the PS. Paul will be the #3 TE and only see time on ST's and special packages.

I don't believe Paulsen has PS eligibility.

Oh, thanks for the accolade.

Well, while I could see

ey returning, don't think it will be because Paul is released.....think the coaching staff is pretty enamored with that experiment, so think that Paulsen would be the odd man out.....or someone else would suffer being cut.
But, if

ey really wants to be a starter, do not see why he would come back with us other than he bleeds B & G.

Shannon Sharpe was no Shannon Sharpe his first two seasons either.

This is Paul's first season as a Tight End. Here's what Sharpe did in his first 2 years.
1990 7 receptions 99 yards 1 TD
1991 22 receptions 342 yards 1 TD
It wasn't until 1996 that Sharpe had double digit TDs with 10.

Not only are they not picking the Skins, most give the Skins as much chance of beating the Aints as a snowball has of surviving Hades.

Cut Rex and re-sign

ey. Rex will be a phone call away when Shanny feels the need to put him back on the roster.

I heard that too. To me, to put it out in public w/o telling

ey first is a message to the other teams.
What is the FO saying?
Back off -

ey is ours. Would this need to be said publicly when

ey clearly wants to be a Skin?
Are they trying help

ey with his bargaining with other teams by supposedly giving him another option?
Anybody else have ideas about why they went public before talking to

ey?

A reporter asked Allen about the possibility of

ey coming back. He said there is absolutely a chance, in fact they're meeting next week. It wasn't like the team came out with a press release.
