That was a great one, of course. I may have to go with Daryl Grant rumbling into the endzone with the ball he intercepted after Dexter's tip against the pukes. It sealed the game and sent the Skins to their first Super Bowl victory. It was against Dallas, for one thing, and the way RFK rocked was a sight to behold.

Mine has to be from that same Cowgirl game when Dexter "freight-trains" Danny White, sending him into never never land. A close second has to be Darrell Green's punt return in Soldier Field against the Bears.

I have an old school and a new school. The old school was Darrell Green running down Tony Dorsett from behind, the new school was LaVar Arrington knocking the crap out of Troy Aikman, effectively starting his broadcasting career.

It is easy to think of favorite moments from the "glory days". How about recent history, say in the last 5-7 years? Not much to cheer about. However, my recent history favorite is when Lavar intercepted Carolina and returned it for a TD. That game Gardner had over 200 yards(I think) and the 'skins won in OT. I think that was the first win after a 0-5 start.

Understand that I grew up in the eighties watching the Skins but I never became a serious fan until they Signed Williams (I had been a fan of he and the Bucs).

Maybe when Gus Ferotte head butted the wall - pretty funny - sorta typified the Turner Era. Serious hit when Arrington laid out Aikman, now that was a favorite.

the glory days-all the above.the superbowl wins ,division titles and the conference titles as well.best overall memory in the glory days (part1) had to be that 3rd and long play in 84 i beleive against neil lomax and the cardinals at rfk.when joe theismann threw to art monk down the sidelines on a 3rd and 19 to pick up a first down.then mark moseley kicked the game winner .thats was a record day for monk as well.i was there for my first ever game at rfk what a day. we won 29-27.that d green punt return was great too while he hurdled over the tackler pulled a muscle in his ribs and went on to score the td in chicago.

now for the modern day - i would have to say that lavar interception against carolina.

and the most embarrasing would have to be joe theismanns 1 yrd punt. ouch that hurt just to mention it again.

I haven't been a fan for that long (1994), so really the only highlight for me was when we drafted Patrick Ramsey he will lead us to greatness again

My favorite Redskins moment was Darrell Green's last home game. I was at the game, at the end he went around the stadium and gave everyone who remained a handshake. It was bittersweet but i think it meant alot to the fans. Best Redskins ever on and off the field.

It's pretty easy to think of dramatic memories from the first Gibbs' era.

How about one from the Norv Turner era. I can only think of one - the first regular season game at then brand new Jack Kent Cooke stadium. The Skins were losing - to the Cardinals I think - and the game was nearly over. I couldn't believe the Skins were about to lose the first ever game at their new home. I was praying for a miracle. A long bomb to Michael Westbrook answered the prayer and the Skins won in the last seconds on that play . . . that's if my memory serves me right. I've pretty muched blocked out most of the last ten years as soon as it was over.


I was there...Westbrook's grab was in overtime...great game!!

i remember that detroit game at detroit
the score was 41-38.that was a wild game.

SEAT CUSHIONS....at RFK....I threw mine on the field...We also hung a headless Dave Brown dummy over the budweiser sign at RFK for a giants game.... Leaving the Bucs game early and than running back in past security to see Deion return that punt......Fights in the parking lot at dallas games....getting stuck in the lot along the anacostia at RFK and having security pull us out of the mud....The cigar smell in the seats at RFK....Chuck Cecil hitting Reggie Brooks and almost taking his head clean off....Opening game against the Lions in 91 the shutout.[/b]

I posted the stuff below in response to the post about the sportsline article. I got to thinking, after having posted a favorite Skins' memory, that this really sums up my favorite memory . . .

Interesting take by the NFL'ers.

When we were searching for a coach, I was hoping Green would be the man in DC because the rest of the names being mentioned - Rhodes and Fassell as the top two - were making my stomach turn green (no pun intended).

I imagined Green in burgundy and gold and I wasn't happy, but I figured he'd be better than any other coach we've had since Gibbs. So I was pulling for him to come to DC.

And that brings me to one of the greatest moments of my football loving life.

Every morning the first thing I do is stumble to the computer and log on to all my bookmarked Skins' sites starting with the WP site. And when I saw the headline, out of nowhere, that Gibbs was coming back - I ran into the bedroom, woke up my wife and said "Honey, honey, the WP says Gibbs might be coming back to coach the Redskins."
She rolled over, frowned, and said "Don't be ridiculous," and went back to sleep. Guys and Gals, I'm married to the perfect woman, she loves football (she's a Crimson Tide grad and huge Bama fanatic the way only Bama fans can be fanatic) and she thought I was sleep walking and dreaming the dream I've dreamed for eleven years.

When it became a reality - I sat at the computer and teared up. I would've been relieved if Green had come to DC for all the reasons the NFL'ers said he's the most dramatic turn-around hire. But let me tell you, Gibbs coming back was the biggest story, and the best hire in all of sports, with the biggest impact, in my lifetime.

What the NFL'ers didn't take into account is all of us, the fans, the diehards who love the Skins with a passion unheard of in pro-sports. The Cards are a transplant in a town that is at best luke warm about football.

Already, Gibbs' impact has been huge - for the fans - instantly rewarding all of our dedication like nothing short of a Superbowl victory could have. In fact, I'd rather go 0-16 cheering for Gibbs than winning a Superbowl with a dork like Spurrier. Why? Because Gibbs cares about the Skins as much as I do. Just think about what he said this week - the blue and silver makes him sick to the stomach. Yeah!

And we won't go 0-16. He's already done more in a few months - hiring a brilliant staff, trading for a superstar running back, conducting a mini-camp that set the stage for one tough, hard nosed, and smart team. And it's barely April.

Green or Gibbs? No comparison. Gibbs by mile.

Ahhh, but the criteria was current - like in the last 10 years.

Personally, I like the hit on Charley Waters in the 1972 Championship that broke his arm - now before anyone says how mean that is, you have to remember back then these 2 teams really did hate each other and it showed on the field.

Good post Magoo - you are not alone in your sentiments. I would say you have 840 brothers here who maybe shed a tear or two of joy when hearing the news that "Our Gibbs" was back.
