What if...

What if ROBERT Gallery is available at #5? Should the SKINS take him? Even though we have Samuels at LT, Samuels will be a big hit against the cap in the near future, and a OT of Samuels talent can easily be traded.

I think that's the wrong way to go. We're in pretty good shape on the O-line, and have some definite needs elsewhere that need to be filled first. I know a lot of posters are high on getting either taylor or Winslow with the #5, but I'm hoping that someone lower down in the first round will get itchy for Taylor/Gallery/Winslow, and offer us their First and Third (maybe if they're relly panicky, a fisrt and a Second!)
We really need to pick up some extra help for the D-line, and there's some good talent out there this year. If we get lucky enough to pick up a solid D-lineman in the first, and grab a 2nd/3rd out of it as well, we'd be much better off.
Lots of good talent to be had in the 2nd and 3rd--I really hope we can get into the fight for it.
On the subject of Samuels--I think we'll see him start to renegotiate his contract this year. he's already stated that he wants to be one of Gibbs' Core Redskins, and he's smart enough to see that this scheme fits right into his skill set.
Another thing to consider--if Brunell ends up as the starter, who becomes the blind-side tackle? Yep, it's Jansen, who already has a set contract. Should make the renegotiation of Samuels' contract a little more Redskins-friendly....

Why the hell are so many people discussing the replacement of Chris. We don't need an offensive lineman! Who cares about Gallery? We need defensive help at the line and an upgrade at safety.
With Brunell being the probable starter, Chris won't be the blinside tackle anymore which means less presure to protect the QB. Jansen is the one who will have to step up this year and play at the calibur he has for the past 5 years.
LAY OFF OF SAMUELS!

relax Jake...it's just a "what if"
I agree with you. We need the DL help and safety upgrade. The OL is just fine.
I just hope Chris is willing to restructure his deal and remain a Skin.

Go for D Lineman first, then go for depth at other positions.

I'm with ya, Jake. Samuels will excel in this scheme, and he's Redskins material beyond that.

If he don't restruture his contract.....Bye, Bye! He's going to make over $10 million this year, with his so-so play is he worth it?

We're discussing it, Jake, cause we are paying you back for the Darnerian was traded post
I think we might trade him for a 5th this year and a 7th next year - thoughts anyone?
I mean he leaks like a sieve after all

How many times do I have to say this? He's not making 10 mil this year Ant. Stop saying that because it's not true.
He wasn't the only one who had so-so play until the middle of the year. And it wasn't on a million dollar salary. In 2003, his base salary was $625 THOUSAND. In 2004 his base salary is $5.132 million... NOT 10 mil.

No - you are right Jake - he is only counting 8.328 million against the cap this year...
Probably about 500k for every allowed sack last year

I think I heard Chris was going to go to Dallas for Henson and a pitcher to be named later. (That may be going to far, with Dallas and all, but I had to join in the fun)
Man, Jake does love Samuels. Spurrier hung him out there, and he'll be great with Bugel back. And he will be a good Gibbs' Redskin.
And I hope he does renegotiate, we're going to need it. Especially if we take that Trotter cap hit.

That's hilarious, I like Chris Samuels and all, but there's no way he's worth that much money! I think if we were to draft Gallery we could trade Samuels for a good defensive lineman and be all set.

lol, it was SFIR that said it! I just agreed! Chris Samuels is one of the best paid players in football and he isn't worth it... not yet anyway... but two can play at that game:
