ehh it's all right. I was actually wondering if they'd give Clinton Portis a tryout, seeing that they really need a veteran in camp.
right now I'm reading this ranking 1-32 of all NFL teams' offensive lines when I noticed that Hightower was re-signed.

Adds nothing to the team!?!?!? Are you mad..?!?!?
Apart from experience at a position where we have none, leadership skills and a brilliant team and work ethic, some fantastic pass protection ability, great hands out of the backfield, and most importantly excellent cut-running ability, or is that not enough for you....?
He fits the Shanahan scheme perfectly.
I'm DELIGHTED he's back, he's such a positive influence off the field which is a bonus with a team that's as young as ours is, but I'm happy to wager if he stays fit he'll lead the team in rushing next season.
This has made my day!

I agree 100% SLR. There are some very strange fans around. Hightower is a great re-signing. I personally expect Helu to lead the team in rushing, but it could be close. We might not even have a 1000 back this year, but still have one of the better running attacks around.
And as for Man U losing the title - well, I'm not a hater of that team, nor a lover of City and their billion pound project, but I watched the City game yesterday, and couldn't help willing them to win it.
Still, that's off topic - hooray for Hightower!

Let's see....hummmm....he rushed for a staggering 64 yards per game (321 yards total in 5 games). I repeat, he adds nothing.SouthLondonRedskin wrote:aswas71788 wrote:Not a surprise, he could not find anything anywhere else. I don't think he really adds anything to the team.

I don't disagree with you, SLR. And I am stoked that you have used the word "delighted" on here.SouthLondonRedskin wrote:I'm DELIGHTED he's back, he's such a positive influence off the field which is a bonus with a team that's as young as ours is, but I'm happy to wager if he stays fit he'll lead the team in rushing next season.

I'm still concerned about the ACL injury though. How many RBs are effective the year after that injury? Maybe the number is better than I am guessing. Maybe not. This is fantasy football related, but has some good, relevant numbers here:
http://www.footballdocs.com/RB_injury_rule.html
Check out the YDS the year before the ACL injury and the YDS the year after. GRIM.
All that said, Hightower wasn't really a big yardage back last year anyway, and I know they like him as much for his blocking and pass catching. So I have no issue with bringing him back.

So let's say he only avgs 64 yards a game. What about his blocking (questionable OL)...? What about his ability to catch from the backfield, a useful thing with a rookie QB maybe...?? What about his off field support to the young Helu and Royster...??
Nothing.

High class local guy veterans are something we can't have enough of. Plus he looked good in preseason when we were running the ball more. His ypg may be low due to rex trying to air it out since his first two ints put us down by 20

I think its a smart move to bring back Hightower. Running back by committee anyone? Helu, Royster, and Hightower form a pretty good group of backs to have in the backfield. Helu on 1st and 2nd down, bring in Hightower on third and Royster to spell the two.

I might swap Hightower and Helu around from your suggestion, but I agree with the general premiseCappster wrote:I think its a smart move to bring back Hightower. Running back by committee anyone? I agree about his pass blocking. But come on....he caught 10 passes for 78 yards in 5 games. He averaged 64 yards per game rushing and caught an average of 2 passes per game averaging 7.8 yards each. So he had a combined contribution of 79.6 yards per game. Do you really know anything about his off-field support? Doubt it but if you believe that then fine. Hightower wasn't the starting running back in Arizona, wasn't even 2nd in the depth chart. Why do you think Arizona traded him? I could see your defending him if he were Chris Cooley or Mike Sellers or London Fletcher or any one of the long term Redskins but Hightower has been with Washington one year and played 5 games. I truly hope you are right and that he has an outstanding year but his past performance doesn't indicate that he can.SouthLondonRedskin wrote:nothing....?aswas71788 wrote:Let's see....hummmm....he rushed for a staggering 64 yards per game (321 yards total in 5 games). to be fair, his ypg and even more importantly his ypc have been really low his entire career.cowboykillerzRED wrote:High class local guy veterans are something we can't have enough of. United have a terrible armchair support that is fuelled by the love affair the media has for them (remind you of anyone...?).
City have real fans (not for much longer I fear) and they deserve this having waited 44 years since the last league title, and for having to watch United dominate for the last 20 years.
Good luck to them I say. For this season at any rate...

I don't think it is wise to hold players by last years numbers on that offense.aswas71788 wrote:I agree about his pass blocking. But come on....he caught 10 passes for 78 yards in 5 games. He looked very good in patches, ordinary in others. Not surprising for someone who has just joined a new team and has had a disrupted start to his time here due to the lockout.
I really like Hightower, he showed glimpses of his ability, he fits this offense really well, he has a great attitude, he's a local boy and I'm telling you he'll lead the team in rushing this year if he stays fit.
Helu may be the long term solution but I suspect he'll have some growing pains this season. Royster too. If Morris makes it that's a good RB unit. We may end up with a clutch of RB's over 600 yards for the season, which works for me!

^^^ - this works for me too
I would not be surprised to seeing a lot more of the skill players used as players are rotated a lot more
and
RGIII becomes more familiar with them and the playbook

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

How do I feel about Hightower coming back... Meh!
I wouldn't get excited about him returning or leaving.
In the small sample size we had with all three backs (Helu, Royster, and HT) he was the least effective of the three. Now that could have been just because the backups at OL run blocked better than our starters. Or it could have been better play calls or lesser opponents. Whatevr the reason, he was the least effective of the trio.
I can't see HT and the rookie (Morris) both making the team. So that means one of them will (most likely) get cut! (remember you have to cut a guy before you can sign him to the practice squad - HT, Royster, and Helu are't elligable for the PS).
