If you hate it, don't be it.
markshark84 wrote:Hate to be the "you know what" but, this guy hasn't thrown an NFL pass. I can gaurantee that people were saying the same thing when we drafted Shuler and Campbell.
Lets at least wait to see how this all works out before we start his indoctrination into the hall of fame.

I can guarantee you people were not saying the same things about Campbell that they are saying about RGIII. That includes Redskins fans, homers, haters, whatever, as well as fans and analysts from around the league, as well as experts employed by everyone from advanced stats sites to ESPN.
If you don't think there's a real, substantial difference between RGIII/Luck and (name your upper or lower 1st round no-name pick of the past), that doesn't so much say something about RGIII/Luck as it does the way you are looking at it.Lets at least wait to see how this all works out before we start his indoctrination into the hall of fame.
I think you are way overstating the hype here. I haven't seen anyone who has claimed that RGIII is a lock for a HoF career. (Though I have seen people who have said so about Luck.) Most people are very careful to talk about his potential in terms of potential. Thta's why they say things like "he has the potential to be . . ."
I know you are trying to be realistic, but it comes across like you are upset that people are getting excited about RGIII. Come on. That's just not being realistic. By anyone's estimation both of these QBs are the best prospects that the NFL draft has seen in 15 years. It's OK to get excited about the opportunity to grab one of these two guys.
What's unrealistic is to pretend that just because RGIII hasn't played a down in the NFL we have zero reason to expect him to succeed. If college game tape, workouts, interviews, character, etc. are all irrelevant to the NFL, why even have a draft at all? Just randomly assign people — after all, if anyone can go bust then there's no reason to think one player is better than another, right?
Here's what's more realistic: 1st round picks, and especially guys in the top 10, make All-Pro and Pro Bowls at far higher rates than everyone else. Even though they aren't always right, scouts and experts in general know what they are doing. Anyone can watch RGIII play and see that he has the tools and potential to become a great NFL QB. Watch him in interviews and look at his family history and it's clear he's also got his head on straight (which was the major factor in a lot of 1st round busts). So I don't see how it's not realistic to be excited about a guy who has no discernable question marks.
That doesn't mean I think he's in the HoF already. It just means I can't wait to see him play, and I think he's going to contribute a lot to this team. He also has the potential to be great, and I'm hoping he will be. That's all.
I hate to be a "you know what" about this, but it needed to be said, IMHO.My advice is to relax and enjoy the ride. I haven't been this excited to watch our draft pick play since we got Sean Taylor.
+1 Very well put. It's been along time since we've had this much reason to truly be excited about going into a season. I can understand the hesitation in some people (we've been let down so many times), but with the potential of either prospect, we're as close to a "can't lose situation" as you can be. It's a great feeling! After the last 20 or so years I'm not taking it for granted.Irn-Bru wrote:markshark84 wrote:Hate to be the "you know what" but, this guy hasn't thrown an NFL pass. I love seeing stuff like this. A great example of how getting a "franchise qb" has a positive effect on the team as a whole. The skins will have a new swagger to the step this year!1niksder wrote:Orakpo is excited
