Are the Redskins a good fit for RG3?
No. I say that because a lot of the time ego gets too involved when it comes to being in Washington. Here’s a guy that’s coming out who’e very talented--mobile, strong arm. We’ve already heard he’s intelligent, a football mind. Are you going to cater the offense around his talent and what he’s able to do or are you going to bring the Houston offense with Matt Schaub over to him and have him kind of be embedded in that?

We talk so much about Mike Shanahan and the things he was able to do in Denver. Well, I have a couple of names for you that Mike Shanahan, quarterbacks that he’s coached and the lack of success that he had.

Does he have an ax to grind with the Redskins?
You know, I do but I don’t. The whole deal about it is, we hear so much about player who move on somewhere, how the next year will get a lot better. Give him a chance to learn the offense and learn what we do. Give him a chance to get his feet under him and get adjusted to the guys around him.

I never got that chance. And a lot of people haven’t. Rex has been there, Rex has been under this system being in Houston. John Beck was supposed to be the guy who he thought was a quality quarterback, he only played him for four games and then he was benched.

You know, the list goes on. Jake Plummer, he has sour feelings about the whole thing he was a part of.

This is so sad. Had the guy went to Minny and did something other than hit guys in the ankle his comments might hold water but he went there and was replaced by a rookie, got cut and couldn't find a job with 3 or 4 playoff bound teams needing a QB to proceed.

Even worst is the fact that once the season ended there were 6-7 teams in need of QB help and hi phone still hasn't rang. Guys like J Campbell and D Garrard are coming off of injuries and found new teams and the only person McNabb can talk to is Skip "Tebow is the greatest QB to join the NFL in a decade " Bayless.

McNabb never showed a good work ethic here. His bitterness comes across as someone who knows he's not done what he needed to do to succeed. Poor character quite honestly. Oh well. We're better off now.

And, McNabb.....RG III will be far better here than you were throughout your career. You should have thought about that while you were playing. Can't change it now.

He said he wasn't given a chance to learn the guys around him. I agree. He was in camp early, but he had other things to do. Like lose weight and get in shape. But whose fault was it that he was a fat slob that couldn't throw above waist level. He wasn't given a chance with the Vikings either, Right.

He sounds very bitter about his time here. I've really got no hard feelings about it. It clearly wasn't working out, and the coaches made the right call by moving on to Rex. (For that year at least )

Sad.

.. he is right about the ego thing though, Shanahan's ego is a heck of a thing for QBs to deal with apparently.

I hope for everyone's sake that Shanahan takes a step back and realize he may have to change his philosophy on how he does things.

As for mcnabb....

....

...

so wut, go get a job. :thump:

He's trying to find one.... considering playing QB is no longer a option.

He's still hitting below the belt, just not using a football now.

Never get a used QB from Andy Reid would be the lesson here (see McNabb, Kolb)......

Agreed with the move when it happened, but for various reasons it did not work out....Much blame was on McNabb for maybe not wanting to alter his approach to playing the position.....but also some questionable coaching decisions like pulling him during the Lion game for Rex, to which Rex promptly fumbles and it is returned for a TD. The story Shanny created for this revolving around Rex knowing the 2 minute offense better than McNabb just did not set the tone for a QB/Coach that were on the same page. Also, think McNabb had issues with Kyle Shanahan on several levels......

So, it just didn't work out....and it appears that McNabb is at the end of his career. This just sounds like sour grapes from McNabb.....

Well, if nothing else, he would understand about... ego... getting in the way...

More people complained about Rex getting benched for Beck than complaining about McNabb being benched for Grossman.

That says a lot

LOL. Ya think? I love that his complaint is that the coaches are trying to make these QBs play "their offense". I guess he expected to come to DC and just make it up on the fly.

This is a guy who could do himself a world of good by just taking some ownership for what happened at the end of his career. I feel bad for him because he was a really good QB for a long time in a crap city who didn't appreciate him. No doubt there is some blame to share, but McNabb should take some responsibility and admit he couldn't get it done in Washington OR Minnesota.

Some good counter points from the ESPN/Graziano blog too:
* He was benched by Eagles coach Andy Reid in 2008 and traded by Reid after the 2009 season to a team that the Eagles play twice a year. Clearly, there were some issues with McNabb even before he got to Washington. You don't trade your starting quarterback to a division rival if you think the guy is still worth having.

* Three separate Redskins people who were with the team during McNabb's only season there have told me that the issue with McNabb was that he didn't want to put in the work during the week. Yes, the system in Washington was different from the one he was used to in Philadelphia, but that McNabb's response to that was to shut down and refuse to learn or practice it. One of those three people told me Shanahan was aware, before making the trade, that McNabb had developed the reputation over his final few seasons in Philadelphia of not wanting to put in the work during the week, but that Shanahan believed he could light a fire under McNabb.

* Shanahan was not able to light that fire, and McNabb lost his job to Rex Grossman during the 2010 season. Rex Grossman, folks. Didn't lose the job to Johnny Unitas or Joe Montana. Couldn't play or practice well enough to fend off a challenge from Rex Grossman.

* The Redskins traded McNabb prior to the 2011 season to the Minnesota Vikings for a sixth-round pick. McNabb must not have liked the egos or the system in Minnesota, either, since he played just six games there before losing the job to rookie Christian Ponder, then demanded his release later in the season after being demoted to the scout team.

* No one picked him up off waivers.
* No one has signed him so far this offseason.
* There has been not one report of any team being interested in signing him.

He knew he was the problem and that the D was carrying him.

His stats are correct about Shanahan. And, there is some concern with Kid Kyle's ability or lack thereof to adjust his "scheme."

But, he conveniently ignores the fact that (i) he didn't play well or seem to want to work hard at learning the system, and (ii) three different teams cut him after he proved he's done.

Now I see why Philly hated this dude.

Ever since he came, McNabb has disappointed me. At least he's consistent.

Funny how McFlab bagged on Shanny's QBs post Elway and brought up their wins.

Elway left the Broncos after the 98 season so Shanny's post Elway time started in the 99 season, the same season the FatFive was a rookie.

Shanny's QBs post Elway had 102 wins
McFlab - 98 wins!

Just sayinng!!!

Of course he did; it's clear that he thinks Griffin is just like him. It's a total joke.

Two of the three are still NFL employees and shy away from the media the other one does guest appearances on any TV show, any chance he gets, and he is still less visible than the other two.

even I find this to be garbage. if hes saying shanahan couldn't win with all those post elway qbs, hes insinuating other if not better coaches could. those qbs just sucked, regardless of who coached them. look at their careers after Denver. I'd say he got the most out of Plummer too. cutler is a different case, was just moving into his prime when a DIFFERENT coach decided to trade him away.

what mcnabb could argue is that shanahan doesn't know how to find qbs. that would be different, and debatable. but that's not what mcnabb is saying.

I believe a great qb wins in any system. this is football, not robotics.

Andy Reid did pretty well with Vick after McFlabb left. And, Kevin Kolb got $60M after looking good under Reid.

So does McNabb attribute his relative success to Andy Reid?? Nah. That was all him. But, his failure is all the coaches.

Got it.

McNabb fails to mention that he got dumped while with the Viking for a rookie for the same reasons he got dumped by the Redskins and that his telephone is not ringing. McNabb must have gotten a job on the NFL network. He is now sounding like all of the other washed up, over-the-hill players there pretending to be experts.

McNabb is a Republican's dream, proving Rush Limbaugh right year after year.
