Three dudes and a camera is a frenzy? One of the dudes looks like he's Tweeting. The other drinking a Slurpee.

Seriously though, there are media people around all of the teams rumored to have interest in Peyton.

That is ONE out of two possibilities. You are right. However ... this photo was posted by the REDSKINS organization itself on facebook!!!

Maybe they are playing the fans but ... maybe not. DRAMA. :D

There is no doubt that the Redskins will make an all out push to get Peyton Manning. I certainly would not be against it. I just cannot see Peyton Manning coming to the Redskins. First, the Redskins are not a "one player away" from being a Super Bowl contender which is probably foremost on his agenda. Second, coming to the Redskins who have obvious major offense problems would not help his legacy. Third, I just cannot see Manning coming to the division with his brother in it. To much of a media circus twice a year.

What do the redskins have to offer except money? He has plenty of that.

a little off topic but..., everyone saying the Reskins' are not one player away is somewhat funny to me. Would you rate this years Colts team as one player away? Add P. Manning back to that same team and they are a realistically in the SB conversation as proven for his entire career just about....dude is THAT good. A legit QB makes all the difference and makes up for weaknesses in other areas. I'm not suggesting the Skins' are or are not 1 player away but if you have a QB like him and he's healthy you have shot every year IMO.

Am I the only person who would be infuriated if we add Peyton Manning?

He will not finish an entire season. This would be a step in the wrong direction.

But hey, anything to sell tickets right Dan?

No, you're not the only one. Others have expressed the same thing and it seems the majority of fans would much rather see us pursue RGIII.

I wouldn't be "infuriated", but its not really the direction I'd like the team going right now.

Anyway, I don't think there is any pending announcement coming. Last thing I read an hour or two ago, nobody can even sign Manning until late today or possibly Thursday. I'd guess the media is circling Redskins Park just to hype this up further. I'm sure this will be all over the six o'clock news tonight!

Why not both?

One player away, no. A healthy Peyton Manning away, yes!
aswas71788 wrote: Second, coming to the Redskins who have obvious major offense problems would not help his legacy.
Maybe not, but he would immediately solve many of our problems. Our WRs would instantly be better, our running game would be better, our sacks allowed would plummet, and our INTs would be cut in half!
aswas71788 wrote: Third, I just cannot see Manning coming to the division with his brother in it. To much of a media circus twice a year.
Why? If I was an ellite QB and my brother was an elite player I would ABSOLUTELY LOVE playing my brother twice a year! Who wouldn't like that? Think about how intense those Gints/Skins games would be. Just AWESOME!!!
aswas71788 wrote: What do the redskins have to offer except money? He has plenty of that.
They have a team that was better last year than the team Peyton just left. With Peyton that team was a 10+ win team every year for over ten years straight! And our team is better than it.

I was thinkiing the same thing! I thought the picture was the wrong picture at first.

Three sharks, a carp, in a square mile of the ocean. WOW, what a feeding frenzy that would be

I'd be annoyed if Manning came here. I understand all the positive points people are making about how good he is but a lot of that is based in history and not the present.

He's almost 36 and and recovering from 4 serious surgeries (serious in terms of his athletic ability at least).

If we get him and he lasts 5 minutes before going off injured then we're back to Sexy Rexy. Everyone will be all over Shanny for gambling and failing.

Obviously any QB we get could go down injured early on, I appreciate that it's a tough game, but no other QB is out there with all the health warnings that Manning comes with. I mean, he's one big hit away from retirement!

I just can't see us trading up for RGIII if we were to get Manning, we're more likely to get him some protection and WRs with the picks, so the idea of both is fanciful.

This chasing of legends at the tailend of their career just never works. Manning = Montana, Redskins = Chiefs.

Let's keep it young, build for the future. The Colts just had Manning for 14 years, lets get RGIII and hoefully he can bo OUR man for a decade or so.

Because Manning's probably not going to want a one year deal

My first choice is Griffin, but if that's not going to happen I'd love to sign up Peyton. Along those lines, I'd like to tell the Rams we want to do the deal now so we know we have our QB situation settled and if they wait we're going after Manning and if we get him we're out of the bidding for their pick.

Montana immediately took the Chiefs to a 13 win season AND the AFC Championship game, and the playoffs the next year. I think a lot of teams including the Redskins would be happy with those results.

They only had Montana for two years though. To me that is the bigger issue. Like I've said, it might be fun to have Peyton for a year or two, but I'd personally rather find our QB for the next decade.

Also I don't agree with all of these comments that Manning is washed up or that he's not going to last the season. The guy is one of the best QBs ever and as competitive a player as there is in the league. If he signs up to play with a new team for 2012, I fully expect he's going to bring it. He's not going to embarrass himself. And if he's playing for a team with an actual defense, he'll probably be back in the playoffs himself this year.

Again agreed. Griffin is plan A. But Peyton, keeping our #6 and possibly getting Tannehill would be a decent fall back plan.

I like what you're saying. I would be ok with Peyton if we still draft a QB in the first two rounds. That's almost the best of both worlds.

I still find it super hard to understand though why Peyton Manning would ever choose to come here. Seriously, can anybody explain to me why he would choose us over a team like Miami?

OK, my memory has let me down there as I had Montana struggling in Kansas!!! Fair enough, I take that back, but that would be an exception to the rule. 36 year olds starting over with another team, another coach, another system, another city, etc. It doesn;t bode well...

His age is a concern, his fitness another. I don't doubt that he will 'bring it', he's an athlete of integrity. But that dont count for much after he's had his neck put out again after a nasty hit.

It's a big risk, if he was 29 then yeah, go for it. He has time to come back. But not this time.

hah. Not to pick on you, but Brett Favre didn't do badly with the Vikings much the same way!
Favre officially signed with the Minnesota Vikings on August 18, 2009. He would go on to have a landmark season in which he surpassed former Vikings defensive end Jim Marshall for consecutive starts at one position, with 291.,became the first quarterback in NFL history to defeat every one of the league's 32 franchises since the NFL first expanded to 32 franchises in 2002., surpassed Dan Marino's previous record for four-touchdown games, and was named to his 11th Pro Bowl. The Vikings finished 12-4 and advanced to the NFC Championship game, ultimately losing in overtime to the eventual Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints. Despite the loss, Favre set playoff records for pass completions and passing yards previously held by Joe Montana.
We're not just talking about 36 year old QBs here either. We're talking about some of the best QBs in league history. I'm willing to bet Peyton Manning will come back more like Joe Montana than like Donovan McNabb.

What we are is 1 player away from the playoffs. You insert any capable QB into our system last year, and you would of had a 10-6 team easy. I would say we are a full season away from super bowl contention if everything goes 100% right

I'd prefer Griffin as I believe he adds a dynamic to the Redskins offense that could make us perennial contenders for the next decade.

If we take Peyton, I think that makes Tannenhill the guy we should try to draft. We have to be more than shortsighted. Tannenhill has first round talent despite his inexperience at QB (only 19 starts). Sitting behind Peyton for 3 Years would be the perfect, Aaron Rodgers-like scenario.

We'd need to supplement through Free Agency to add pieces to this offense.

Like I said though, my preference is to go through the draft.

I'd have to agree. I think Reggie is a package deal with Peyton, so that's a #1 WR right there.

We also have to consider how Peyton uplifts the talent around him. He made a 1 win team a contender.... What will he do with a 6+ win team?! Interesting.
