Franchise Tag??????

Hey guys since we do have a fair amount of cap room THIS year( around 39.5 or so I think) I was just wondering if maybe y'all think we should franchise either Freddy Davis or LaRon?? We do really need Davis but at the same time he's only a failed DT away from a year long suspension. Cooley has been hurt a lot lately and Paulson isn't much of a receiving threat. LaRon is being bothered by that achilles and wont do the surgery so maybe franchise him and see how he plays and if he stays healthy work out a long term deal during the season. I dunno who else we would franchise I guess Fletch is always a possibility because we really need him and I was hoping to resign him before FA starts. Adam Carricker is also a free agent and had a great year however with Jenkins coming back we can always draft somebody in 3rd or 4th as a rotational guy who can eventually start. So guys let me know who ya think we should franchise or not even use it at all??????

I'd franchise Landry. Out of all those guys, he's the most valuable long-term.

Davis - teams most likely won't commit to him in a big way financially. The SKins should be able to easily match anything he gets.
London - they should be able to get a deal done with him without the need of a tag.
Carriker - he's not a long-term solution because Jenkins was eventually going to supplant him anyway. he can go elsewhere, i think he has something to prove to himself. good luck.

Fred Davis is an unrestricted free agent unless tagged. Skins won't necessarily get the right to match...

I'd like to see us resign Fletcher, sign Landry to a one year deal with incentives, or a contract with an out-clause after one year, and then franchise Davis to see if he can behave for one year.

Then maybe we can sign him a long term deal that includes an out if he gets caught smoking again...

Would love to see Carriker come back too. He's not spectacular but solid and would be nice to have him in a rotation with jenkins and bowen. As the Giants have proven, you can't have enough good bodies on the D-line...

I said nobody. I'd like this to be the year we get our franchise QB and find out who wants to be here. I'd like to give Davis and Laron the chance to make that choice. They're both worth letting go. Davis for drugs, Landry for health.

I'm amazed that we found somebody we think is worth the franchise tag. Davis' talent might justify it, but I personally think his off field transgressions make the tag a risky move in his case.

How so? The cap hit applies only to this coming season, as it is auto, a one year deal. He's certainly worth the TE money, as it has dropped significantly from a year ago. This is really a no brainer, as it allows the team to concentrate on doing the right things with Fletcher, Carriker, and, hopefully, dirty thirty.

Well, it's easy for me to say this now that we know the Redskins choice, but I think franchising Fred Davis was a no-brainer.

The TE # for a franchise player isn't that bad, we know he's hugely talented and we really just need that one year to give him a chance to show what he's capable of. After the marijuana problems, he's got a little red flag. Let's hope he uses that as a wake up call and takes care of business this season!

BTW guys do you know if we can still franchise the same player two years in a row under the new CBA????? I thought I saw one of the new agreements was players can't be franchised in back to back years but I might be wrong. I remember when the Jags franchised that safety of theres back in the mid 2000s (Darius???) 3 or 4 years in a row and he got pretty upset by the last one cuz he never got a long term deal.

If Davis needs a wake up call, we are truly screwed

Williams and Davis have had their last chance - they need to make a huge effort to show that they are not stupid

I doubt that either is capable but I can hope

I appreciate you posting that 1niksder and I already knew most of that but unless you just go by the first question where it says you can assign it to one either UFA or RFA so if that's the case we can franchise Davis again next year if we need to but he can still hold out. That's what I was getting at......
