Hightower in 2012...?

I read on the Bleacher report mock draft that they reckon Hightower will be released or traded for next season.
That surprised me a bit. I've always liked him and was happy when we got him before the start of last season.
I thought he did well before his injury, and he's a lot more experienced than Helu and Royster. He's an excellent blocker which is vital in Shannys offense for a RB and a good receiving option also.
But I really liked the way he addressed the team after his injury in an effort to encourage them on regardless of all the injuries we were picking up at the time. That shows he actually gives a feck, and we need as many of those type of players as possible.
All in all, given the inexperience of Helu and Royster, I think we need him back, even if its just in a supporting role. He's not gonna be a lot of money either.
What do the good people of this fine forum feel about Big Tim...? Have I missed something or is the Bleacher Report overlooking the importance of his role...??

Did I miss where he signed a longer term deal? I was under the impression he is a FA but could be wrong.

Definitely a free agent.

He said that this is his home and he's very happy here, if we made him an offer he wants to re-sign basically.

I think he would have to go in understanding that he'll most likely be the #2 at best RB for the team. But coming off an ACL, it's really a 2 year injury. Something that older RBs have a hard time coming back from.
If I'm Hightower or his agent, I tell him to hold off or look to sign in Pitt where they have RB issues.

KEEP HIGHTOWER !!!!
If for any other reason, RBs get hurt... and I love having a real good backup RB to come in for a spell.
Obviously like my boy said he'll have to know his place.
Still, he's a local guy and ya'll know how I feel about that.

I like Hightower too, but its all about the injury. He's either ready to play or he's not. I'd like to see them bring in to camp and let him compete. My gut tells me though that Helu and Royster are going to be duo.

If possible, draft up a short contract. Give the dude some cash, make some of it incentive laden. Give the man every chance to achieve those incentives. If he can't go, if he's not producing, or he doesn't heal up, let him go. That's the life of a NFL player but at least we're treating our guys good. He wants to be here, wants to be part of the org and wants to give it 120%. You can't just cast guys like that off, that's too much like the past. As I said in another thread, a big part of changing the entire culture of this franchise is to start treating deserving players right and with respect.

Yeah, I agree. That commitment and attitude rubs off on others around them, with such a young team being put together that's almost invaluable.
I hope we see him in the B&G again....

I agree. Especially with the durability concerns of the younger guys. We need to keep anyone who wants to be here, here. We haven't arrived yet.

If we keep him, thats one more position we dont need to even look at in free agency or the draft. I'm good with what we have to work with at RB.
D-line and TE are the others, if we re-sign Carriker and Davis gets tagged.

Hightower was and has always been a subpar runner in the NFL. I wouldn't be surprised if his lifetime yards per carry is below the mendoza line for determining a mediocre production level for a back (4.0)
and now he's coming off a major injury. the other backs are unspectacular. maybe the skins should avoid their common practice of acquiring that one savior and try to fix numerous problems on their roster. they have one of the worst rosters in the entire sport.

Yes, because those four players (two of which are not even under contract, and the other two aren't even starters) constitute the entire Redskins roster.

the rest of the starters who played the most last year suck. they're not 11-21 because theyre good. I mean hello. their reserves are terrible. this shouldn't even be news. most people look at the redskins roster as being one of the weakest of the entire league
