There's always 2 sides to a story, Landry's surgery comments

“Give me that opportunity, instead of cutting me open to keep me out for a year and a half, risking me to lose strength and my range of motion … I would not be the same player,” Landry told the web site.
Follow the link for the full thing but...I can't say that I blame him. I totally get it and I wish him the best of luck. I'm sure everyone is assuming that this is a 3 month procedure and it's not.

The problem is that he is trying a non-surgical option for the second straight off season.

I am pretty sure that Laron is talking with a doctor of his own as well. I can't see him trying a self-created, holistic remedy without consulting a doctor. His doctor is likely the source of his concerns after hearing what could happen after the surgery.
It sucks because when healthy, he is one of the Top 5 Strong safeties in the game with the ability to be the best. Problem is, he's rarely healthy.

Just saying I understand man. It's his body and it's something he'll have to live with. His body is his career and his livelihood. It's very easy for any of us to run off at the mouth and say what someone else has to do. #shrug
There aren't any easy decisions for him in regards to this.

In regards to the self created, holistic remedy. Hopefully he sees how that worked out for Williams and Davis and, he steers well clear.

As I said in the other thread... His achiles wasn't his only problem this year.. And w the lockout didn't get proper redskins staff training otas rehab etc etc. Same procedure? Maybe even after a year of medical advances. But same offseason? Totally different.
If he rehabs right and can get to 90% aswell as all his leg muscles properly rehabed for NFL play. He should be back to his old self. Now that's jus what I think him and his Dr thinks MAY happen best case scenario

I understand the complexities here, and I can sympathize with him.
. . . but that doesn't mean I want him to pick whatever works best for him and also have him on the team. If he declines surgery, fine, but then I'm not too keen on bringing him back. Or at least, I'm not if he won't also sign a small, incentive-laden deal.

I would not be the same player
The problem, Laron, is that you are already "not the same player". The chances that you will recover, using the same techniques that you used LAST year are minimal... the probable scenario is, you will continue to mess around, continue to injure yourself, then be out for an additional season... that's 2 seasons, instead of 1. Good luck with that.

He isn't trying the same non-surgical option again.....
LL wrote: “The surgery that was offered last year, I’ve done through the team. After the shockwave, with Dr. (Robert) Anderson in North Carolina, I came to Arizona to do more PRP’s (Platelet-Rich Plasma) because the shockwave helped, but it didn’t cure it and it didn’t heal. That was the surgery offered to me by the team, by the team’s doctors and Dr. Anderson (a well-respected foot and ankle specialist).
He is saying that he did what the team wanted him to do last year and it didn't work.
Now he's trying Biological Matrix instead of the surgery the team wanted him to half.
If the team had went with the surgery they now says he needs last year... Landry would have missed all of last season but might have been ready by the start of the upcoming season. He did what they asked last season when it came to his Achilles, but refused to have surgery on his shoulder.
He says the non-surgical route worked on his shoulder and it is 100%
He says the non-surgical route on his Achilles will have him ready to go by March.

Sounds great! Thanks for the inside scoop.. Kinda been saying it wouldn't be the same thing no matter what glad it isnt. With no lock out his whole rehabilitation should be a success I hope he and OJ can get healthy and stay that way.
As always good lookin out on the inside scoop!

Didn't the Achilles injury stem from racing CPortis? Dumba$$ goofing around! Still, my impression was the groin was the actual problem this year, the Achilles was a CONCERN at the beginning of the season but didn't have any MAJOR setbacks.

The shoulder was injured before he messed up the Achilles or Hammy,
When Washington Redskin safety LaRon Landry tore three ligaments in his wrist and injured his shoulder, he continued to play—until he tore his Achilles in the ninth game of the 2010 season,
Landry tweaked his hamstring during practice, causing him to miss the final two games of the preseason. On Sept. 3, Landry re-aggravated his hamstring during the team’s walk through.

So in other words, Landry did precisely what the team asked of him all along until right now and it didn't work on his Achilles; and now he's going to do a similar treatment on the Achilles that he did for his shoulder, which did work there, which the team isn't advising? The surgery the team is now advocating would be the SECOND surgery they've asked him to undergo after the FIRST surgery didn't actually work?
Put more simply, Landry is nothing like Carlos Rogers, is a team guy, is a good soldier but is looking out for his body since the skins were wrong the first time?

What makes that even more complicated was that he didn't have access to the medical staff as well. I have no idea if that affected the results or not, but there are no easy answers here.

IMO, from the information that we have...
This is a situation where the Redskins need to do the "right" thing. And by that I mean, they have a chance to further rebuild this franchise.
Find a good median between protecting their selves and helping a guy that WANTS TO BE A REDSKIN. Let's counter the accurate but negative ways of the past.

Landry states...
“Basically, I love the Redskins fans, the organization, my teammates,” Landry said. “I just want them to know that I’m doing everything in my power to return at a high level and help win ballgames and win championships.”
Again, I say that we need to stick with this guy. We need to change the perception that we don't take care of our own. We need to make this organization hospitable to our own players and to attract future players. This is bigger than money IMO. This is a shift in culture that needs to be done.

Absolutely. A fully fit Landry is a gamble well worth taking, he's a leader and someone the opposition fear. We don't have enough of those....

There is nothing that would make me happier than a healthy, and aggressive, Laron Landry patroling our defensive backfield. I hope he's right... and, despite my misgivings, I hope he's here.

I'm a Landry fan but I also understand the concern about his health issues
I think Landry wants to be here and be the force that he can be - I also believe that Haslett wants him here
get well Laron - don't get mad, get even - we need you

Bring Landry back and sign Bob Sanders. That way we can have the 3 Best Most Injury Prone Safeties in the NFL.

Only if he's healthy. 17 games in two seasons does little to help the team. If indications are that he's getting healthy, sign him to a one-year, incentive laden deal. Nothing more.

Well, like I said, do something that will aide both sides. Give the man a chance to heal up and prove himself. If/once he does, give him a satisfactory deal.

Hopefully Landry wants to sign back here. He could be one of those "guys" Carlos Rogers was talking about who he apparently still talks to who "want to get out of here."
Landry is too talented to let walk, and in the 3-4, you need a playmaker at Safety to really set your defense apart.
