Just wondering what your guys thoughts are on this situation because both players are darn good and I would love to keep them both but we can only franchise one unfortunately. As much as I like Dirty 30 he is hurt a lot and or D seems to play at a high level without him. At the end of the year even though we moved the ball pretty good we didn't have a good TE receiving option since Logan is more of a blocker.

I kinda doubt there will be much support for LL30 on this one. He's a great player, but the injury thing is a huge question mark.

I agree. Re-sign him if we can to a contract that protects us if he can't recover? Absolutely. Franchise him? Pass.

With Davis's drug problems, franchise sorta makes sense since he only gets salary if we don't sign him. If he gets suspended, we don't have to pay him. And I can't imagine franchising a tight end is going to break the bank.

Riggo - my issue with your post is that you used the word Great. This isn't just to you specifically but I look at players who were GREAT and that's Ronnie Lott style guys. Landry hasn't even scratched Lotts surface. My issue with Landry is that while he's good at the big hit, he's been a liability in many areas. That's why he was benched from time to time. For some reason, if there's a big play, he's around. I love the energy he brings but I don't like the mistakes that happen as well. If coaches feel they can further develop the guy, I'm all for it. But my observation is that he's one we can afford to lose.

NEITHER. One is too injury prone and the other is a stupid druggie. No place for either of them on any team that I would ever root for.

On a related note, I'd cut Williams loose for the same reason.

I was thinking the same thing about Landry and Davis and the tag. Does anybody know under the new CBA whether a team can use both the franchise and transition tag in the same year.

Potentially, you could transition tag Landry and at least be able to match any offers he gets from other teams. I don't think Landry is going to break the bank on the free agent market given that he avoided surgery and probably won't be able to prove he's healthy by march.

His best option might be a one-year, prove it type deal with the Skins, and then if comes back healthy, we could sign him to a long term deal or even franchise him next year. Franchise tag for a safety wouldn't be that big either...

All good points, frankcal. I agree with you that we can afford to let him go - though more because he hasn't been able to stay healthy and the injury situation hasn't been resolved.

And I didn't mean the word "great" to mean that he is a future hall of famer or anything. Just referring to his talent and ability as a playmaker. (I would argue those first 8 games of 2010 he was one of the best defensive players in the league.) Clearly if LL is a great player, Ronnie Lott is flat out legendary.

I guess it makes sense to use the tag on Davis but if I had to pick between them I'd go for Landry.

He has a talent and a presence, he's a leader in the backfield, he's someone other teams are wary of and they'd be a lot of team in for him if he proved he's fit. His upside is immense.

I really like Davis, but TE's of his type are more common, Helu proved he could take a lot of that workload on for example. In my opinion that is...

I like both and hope we can bring em both back. When LL isn't being played out of position he is one of the best in the league. I'd be sad yo seem him go that's for sure.
A healthy dirty thirty and Sean Taylor was always the dream back field... W OJ and LL at 100% its as close to that dream as we can realistically get imo

"Dirty Thirty" has been injured every year he's been a Skin. I voted for Davis.

I don't know about dude's achilles, but Laron is looking monsterously huge these days. Looks like he's packed on an additional 15-20lbs of muscle if that was possible. He looks to be about 240lbs. Check this out.

I hope you're right myself. Love the way he hits people. If he can just get healthy, I don't think we've seen his best football yet.

I'm a Landry fan but he's certainly got a lot to get over

IMO - this guy wants to play here and wants to help this defense

we just have to hope that he can be at his best when this season gets going
