The team began to inflate its new practice bubble on Friday afternoon. The air structure is located about 100 yards from their main headquarters in Ashburn, Va. It has been built over a full-size football field.

Work started on the practice bubble last fall but incessant rain delayed construction through the 2011 regular season.

During days of heavy rainfall in Ashburn, the Redskins were forced to practice at either an airport hangar or a fitness center.

In announcing the groundbreaking for the practice bubble last summer, general manager Bruce Allen said the facility will “ensure that our game preparation will not be disrupted due to inclement weather.”

In addition, the Redskins Charitable Foundation will host special events inside the practice bubble, Allen added.

About time. It is not only good for torrential downpours, but for when its 95 degrees outside and the air is so thick it feels like you are breathing soup. It should help keep the guys fresh.

At least they can practice now and not have to worry about a torrential downpour.
