Kiper Mock 1.0

Has us taking Claiborne, CB from LSU, with Blackmon going to the Rams at 2 and RGIII going to Cleveland at 4.
That is obviously the worst case scenario with those two off the board and us forced to either take a tackle or go defense. We can't go defense in the first couple rounds. I don't care how good Claiborne is.
Hopefully the Rams take Kalil and the Vikes/Bucs go defense, or maybe the bucs take Richardson. We probly could trade with the Rams but it wouldn't be pretty. I really don't see any scenario where the Browns don't take RGIII.

For what its worth:
http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draft201 ... draft-year
Washington Redskins
Record: 5-11
* Morris Claiborne, CB, LSU
While the "Honey Badger," Tyrann Mathieu, piled up the headlines at LSU, the best cornerback on the team was quietly dominant all season. Currently a top-five player on my Big Board, Claiborne is the top cornerback in the draft. He has good length at 6-foot-1 and is a physical player at more than 180 pounds. The Redskins will need help at corner headed into 2012, particularly in a division in which the Giants, Cowboys and Eagles have elite talent at wide receiver. While not quite the athlete, Claiborne is actually a better pure cover corner than Patrick Peterson, the No. 5 overall pick from last year.
I don't know about you guys, but I'm not sure CB is my most pressing concern for this team right now.

If we don't get RG III then I think we trade down.

Easier said than done. IF the draft plays out as Kiper described, why would a team trade up with us? If the 2 qbs, Kalil, Blackmon and Richardson are gone, who would a team trade up to get? The draft is stacked with secondary players so there's really no need to draft up for a corner like Claiborne.

Ugh; that does sound like a worst case scenario. A pick at 6, we'd take any of 3 certain players, but all three are likely to be gone with few trading scenarios.
I think we just need to pay the price to move up and beat the Browns to it.

Most teams want to trade down. Only a few want to trade up, and you have to have a player on the board a team specifically wants and is afraid they'll lose. Sure, if we get the chance we'd do this, but that we'd get any sort of reasonable value for it isn't something you can plan for.

I have no idea what the needs are of the other 26 teams behind us. If we can't get RG III I hope we load up on draft picks.

Is Cleveland NOT happy with McCoy??? Why did they draft him so high???

I was wondering that too. How many QBs can you make top draft picks year after year, without losing your job as a GM?

I agree. The only thing good about this is that it's Mel Kiper, and he's never right about these things, especially this far out. It won't pan out this way, guaranteed, but I think we still have to deal if we want RGIII.

I apologize for not having a link but I saw an article where their GM stated that they want to stick with Colt but bring in a veteran to push him.
I think they know that Colt isn't the only problem and putting another rookie in there is just not gonna cut it. They need a RB after this years fiasco. I think they'll take the top RB off the board. #shrug

Cleveland is the ONE thing that would prevent us from landing RG3.
McCoy may be safe as starter....?
Freeman can still improve, so they won't take a qb
Rams have a stud at qb
I do hope we make a push and run for Griff, but NOT sell the farm.

Don't forget Miami moving up to take a QB. Henne is a FA after this season.

If the Skins have to pay a king's ransom to move up, what would Miami have to pay?
I still think the best scenario for us is for Cleveland to sign Matt Flynn...
The board is still going to shake up a lot between now and the draft. Cam Newton, if I recall correctly, was a mid-round pick in Kiper's first mock last year... And Julio Jones shot up the boards after the combine as well...
Patience, grasshopper...

If RG3 is there when we pick then we should take him but I really dont like the idea of us giving up 3 or 4 picks to get one player.

Kiper is doing a chat today about the draft. Here are points relevant to the Skins...
Rich_Campbell
Kiper said he "heard through the grapvine" that the Redskins don't "have a high opinion" of Flynn.
MikeJonesWaPo
Kiper says he could see #Redskins taking LSU CB Morris Claiborne to meet a need.
MikeJonesWaPo
Kiper doesn't see RGIII lasting past No. 4, and could see him going as high as No. 2.
MikeJonesWaPo
Correcting earlier typo tweet. @MelKiperESPN hears #Redskins don't have a high opinion of Matt Flynn. But he does keep hearing Manning.
Rich_Campbell
Kiper: Wisconsin QB Russell Wilson's height (5-11) will result in him being a fourth-round pick instead of first or second. #Redskins

john_keim
FWIW: I'd heard same thing on #Redskins opinion of Flynn. But still ways to go in the process.
Rich_Campbell
Kiper: If OKST QB Brandon Weeden were 22 years old, he'd be a late 1st-, early 2nd-rounder. But he'll go in the 3rd b/c he turns 29 this yr

I hope the Browns try to develop McCoy, I just think they are aware that he lacks certain abilities. If they took Richardson that would be awesome, cuz I think the Bucs would go defense, meaning we could get RGIII.
No matter what they think of Flynn they need to make a serious evaluation of him because theyre probably beat as far as the draft goes.

I don't really see a scenario right now where the skins pick RG3 with the 6th pick. They have to make a decision where they're going with the QB well before the draft. If they're not going to draft a QB, they have to address it in free agency, and if they don't, they can't afford to sit there and see if RG3 might fall into their lap. What if he doesn't, and you didn't sign a vet in free agency? Anybody really think they go into next year with Rex, Becks, and a developmental QB?
The decision gets made in the next month. They either go get RG3 or they go free agency. The actual trade might not happen till the rams are on the clock, but I think the deal and the decision gets made a lot sooner.
Similarly, Cleveland has to make their decision by March as well. Are they going with Colt? Flynn? Or trade up for RG3?
I don't think you'll see multiple teams heading into draft day HOPING to get RG3...

That seems to be a logical scenario. Holmgren had a slightly above average QB at Seattle, Hasselback, so maybe he will focus on other positions. But, we probably won't want to take that risk. Again, St. Louis is in the driver's seat.

Cleveland is in a much better position than we are because at least they have McCoy on the roster. If they don't upgrade they at least have him to try and develop further. We don't upgrade and its Beck and Rexy.

cleveland is in a much better position also because they have two #1 picks this year.
If I'm the Rams, I'd much rather drop to 4, get either Blackmon or Kailil and pick up another 1st this year, then dropping to six and waiting till next year for another 1st...
That's why I think if you want to see RG3 in B&G, you need to root for Cleveland and Flynn to hook up...

We will NOT go into next season with that duo leading the charge. I can see Weeden and another vet... If the opportunity to cull Manning shows up, I think I could warm up to it, assuming he is, in fact, healthy, and able to take the inevitable beating that he will get. Would he want the chance to beat on little bro twice a year? OTOH, I suspect Archie still dreams of a Manning Super Bowl... and I don't see the Shanahan's conceding to another coach (PM) demanding authority over the play calls.
