Saints vs. 49ers Post Game

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

Saints vs. 49ers Post Game

Post by Red_One43 »

What a game especially in the 4th quarter and particularly in the last few minutes! 49ers 36 Saints 32

The 49ers play football with the enthusiasm of college players. They seldom miss tackles and they love to hit. Harbaugh put the fun back into football. By leaving out the complicated schemes, they get the most out of all their players. Less thinking on the field results in playing football. Alex Smith going to the NFC Championship game? Carlos Rogers going to the Pro Bowl? Jim Harbaugh, new coach, with no off season going to the NFC Championship game? No smoke and mirrors here, just good football.

*The 49er D kept the high powered O in check for 3 quarters.

*They forced Brees in check down after check down. Sproles caught 15 passes (Seems like I remember another QB being forced to check down to a running back several times - Beck to Helu 14 receptions. Hmm)

*They forced 3 turnovers (the other two were special teams gimmes by the Saints ST)

*Alex Smith made key plays with his legs and feet.

*Gore was his usually self - 89 yds rushing

Thought the 49ers effort was great, the Saints had plenty of opportunities to win this game:

*Brees 462 yds passing 4 TDs

*Big pass plays for TDs from Sproles, Colston, and Graham (2)

*5 turnovers did the Saints in - 3 were great defensive plays by the Niners, but the two on special teams were a result of poor football. Roby's KO fumble showed a guy whose mind was not in the game. Sprole's punt return fumble was in heavy traffic with no where to go - COVER THE BALL!

*Heavy blitz with over 70 yrds to go less than a minute and a half to go in the game? Why Gregg?!!!!!

*Single coverage on Vernon Davis? Gregg!!!!

*Zero Blitzing!!!! I can hear Gregg Williams saying the same as Haslett, it did work some of the time.

Even though I think the turnovers and blitzing played a major factor in the Saints losing, my hat is off to the Niners. They played four quarters of good football despite having few players with play -off experience and won the game.

Man what a finish - that is exciting

Loved seeing the Saints terrible defense let down the team at the end too
As some here know, I am very glad that Greg Williams is no longer a part of the Redskins
I used to think that this guy might be a decent HC here as he was reputed to be a defensive guru
He is obviously VERY old fashioned and has refused to adapt his defenses to the new NFL offenses - he's HOPELESS

Greg will very likely be DC in St Louis this coming season - AND still running a STUPID & OLD 4-3 defense :D

btw - I LOVE THE 3-4 defense - thank you Jim Haslett
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)
