Redskins Staff to coach at Senior Bowl

Just came down on twitter that the Vikings and Redskins will coach at the senior bowl. This is great for us because it will allow our coaches to work with guys one on one for a week. A lot of coaches who do coach the senior bowl end up selecting players they coached in this game because of their ability to see players upside or how coachable they are. Looking forward to watching the game too.

Sirius NFL radio is usually on location all week so if you have sirius radio, it's a lot of fun to listen.

This will be a good way for them to get an advantage for the upcoming draft. They'll get a lot of quality time with these kids.

Yep. Don't get too crazy if we draft a guy who's projected to go lower if he plays in the Sr Bowl. Our guys have looked at the player and will take those guys b/c they know he can do what they are trying to do. In their eyes, it's value.

A week of evaluation will give them some key insight into these kids personalities, work ethic, etc.

I like the news as well. Especially this part.
Tannehill, the first quarterback to be named to the South team, set new single-season school records for yards (3,744), attempts (531) and completions (327) in 2011. He was a finalist for the Unitas Award and Campbell Trophy and semifinalist for the O'Brien Award this season. He also finished second on the school's single-season list in touchdown passes (29) and total offense (4,050). In his first full season at quarterback this year, Tannehill had six 300-yard passing games, including a 415-yard output against Baylor.

Tannehill wrapped up his career at Texas A&M as the most accurate passer in school history, with a 62.5% completion percentage. He ranks sixth on the Aggies' all-time list in passing yards (5,450), fifth in touchdown passes (42), fifth in completions (484) and seventh in attempts (774).

Maybe fans will start looking at other talented guys who we don't have to mortgage the future on. Tannenhill put together an impressive resume in limited time as a QB. Projecting his career out a few more years (if he played QB the entire time) he'd likely be a Top 10 pick. With his current experience, he's considered a late first. It would not be so bad if we pass on the hot commodity and pick up a guy like this, along with a few other Top 40 players. Moving into the mid-late first, and adding Tannenhill, and perhaps Mike Adams OT (Ohio State) and Chase Minnifield CB (Virginia) or Stephon Gillmore CB (South Carolina). That is the kind of top end talent that you can ADD to our team, supplment with free agents like (Carl Nicks OG Saints, and Dwayne Bow or V Jackson WR) and start competing.

The Senior Bowl also has a history of turning out great players for bargain value.

Elvis Dumervil - unblockable at the Senior Bowl went 126th overall (4th Round)

Vincent Jackson - 61st overall (2nd Round)

A long list of others. This is exactly what this team needs, exposure to players we don't have to reach for or give away value to get. Players we can trade down for and land more of them.

Skins are coaching the South Team. The team will be lead by QB Ryan Tannehnill, with of course other QBs and players who have not yet been named.

pretty sure this is where the Bengals coaching staff made up their minds on Andy Dalton too.

I always watch this game , particularly linemen. It gives a better evaluation than the combine IMO. I dont see the importance of a guards 40 time or his vertical. I want to see him move a D-tackle 5 yards, that doesnt want to go willingly. Of course there are some drills but, game situation is alot better.

This is a great opportunity for our staff, I wonder how close they will adhere to the Redskins offensive philosophy. Zone blocking and Kyles passing game.

The guys who impressed me last year were Dalton, Ponder, Hankerson, Carimi, Titus young. Watch the practices. They're all on TV. Actually Kerrigan did not impress me there but I'm a Purdue fan and knew he'd be a great player for us.

That our coaches saw a talent and selected a talent at a bargain "price".
