No Redskins in Pro Bowl

I am particularly disappointed because I live in Hawaii now and was going to go see the game. Isn't this representative of a lack of talent on the roster? We have a very stout LB corp, so definitely a little surprise there.

I guess tackling more people than anyone else doesn't cut it in the NFL.

Orakpo was the only finalist, if I recall correctly, which (with all due respect to Rak) is just another example of how reputation means more than production.
London should be there, as he has nearly ever season he's ever played. He has been a beast this year in particular. I can't think of any other Skins player that I'd say was cheated by not being selected. Kerrigan played well enough to merit consideration, IMO.

Urlacher over London is just ridiculous.

True.

Agreed.
Fletch outplayed Willis who has missed several games with a hammy. Willis wasn't even the best on his own team.
Who voted?

It's not fair, but when you lose year after year this is what happens.

Like the man said - it's not about being fair - the Pro Bowl is a popularity contest and has been for years
If you have a team that is successful, those are the players most likely to be selected - selection is NOT based on how you played
when the Redskins become consistently competitive again, I hope the players who are selected, don't go to Hawaii as part of the Pro Bowl, but do go, together, as a team, to have a good time with the other players and their families
do many of you really watch this stupid, meaningless game
I'll wait and see the players that the players select - that's recognition

Please explain how Willis and Urlacher who are not in the top 30 in tackles in the league beat out London Fletcher who is No. 1?!?!?!?! Makes no sense. Something needs to change about the Pro Bowl selection process. Seriously.

I agree. Fletch should be in. Looking at one article, they posted twitter feeds from columnists and athletes about the London snub. The top 4 tacklers in the league are on 4 of the worst teams. They see London's tackles as inflated because he is on the field much more than the guys who got in.

ya think?
a few years ago Tom Brady was left off the team completely - I am not a Brady fan by any stretch
you really can't complain about "the Pro Bowl selection process" - there is none

Never.

When the players do vote I think that's screwy too. I think centers and guards should vote for nose tackles and tackles, receivers and QBs should vote for corners and safeties, etc. and I don't think it works that way. Players should only vote for guys they go against. I really don't care what Josh Wilson thinks about Carlos Rodgers. How would JW know how good CR is? Anyone got more info here?

Yeah, but you don't have to rely on stats to know that Fletcher should be in. I'd think watching him play would be sufficient.

How many voters do you think actually get to see him play, though? It's like this in every sport. The fans vote for the popular players, and the players from winning teams take up most of the spots. It's the same in baseball and the NBA. Bad teams get less games on national tv, have less media coverage, etc., so there is much less exposure for the players. This is an issue every year. When the Redskins start winning then our guys will start to get some recognition.

I'm not complaining. It's been a while since I took Pro Bowls seriously for the very reason you cite. Personally, I'd love to see a better system for voting guys in. But the kind of system it would take would never be popular with today's fan.

Not sure about Urlacher, but I think Willis is probably one of the best LBs in the game right now. Playing on a playoff bound team that allowed only one rushing TD all season. Fletcher still posted better number, but Willis certainly deserved his spot as well.
I'm really disappointed in Fletcher not being selected though. All of us who watch these games every Sunday know what a beast that guy is.

One change that would make sense, in my opinion, is to borrow from baseball where every team must have at least one representative. That way fans get to vote in their favorites, but deserving players on bad teams also get in. On the other hand, with the NFL so many guys decide not to go that a lot of the deserving players do make it in any way.

Yeah, that's another funny phenomenon of the NFL, and it got worse once Goodell moved it. It's not uncommon for 5 QBs, 1/3rd of those playing, to make it in a single conference. That's kind of ridiculous.

The Pro Bowl is and always has been a joke ever since they play before the Superbowl. The Pro Bowl should be like the All-Star game in MLB, every team gets a representative. London Fletcher going to the Pro Bowl as an alternate is a crime in itself. The man led the league in tackles, and he's 36 years old. Case closed.

Way too much of an oversimplification. There are legit points that hurt us like that it's a team game and we specifically tried to play our youngsters. No one on O had a chance with Grossman being a marginal QB at best and our OL and running corps constantly changing. Kerrigan was one of our best players, but he is a rookie and hasn't had as much time to build his resume. Then there's not so legit, like reputation has too large an influence.
That said, Fletcher not making it was a crock. Others made that point, but ditto. If our D improves as much this year as it did over last year we could have several players in Hawaii next year.
