To Win or Not to Win?

To win or not to win, that is the question.

For the players, it is simple - "You play to win the game!" "Just win, Baby!"

How about us fans? What is the difference between 3-13 and 5-11? One important difference is as many as 6 draft positions and out of the running of getting a top prospect QB. So do I want our team to loses this Sunday to the Seahawks? I hope we go out there and anilhilate Seahawks! For this fan it's, "Just Win, Baby!" and worry about the consequences later. If the coach wants to play younger players to get experience, fine, but play to win the game.

die cowboys die wrote on the Santan Moss Thread:
Seattle is one of our top competitors for a high draft pick to get our QB of the future with, and we can't afford to "win" a head-to-head tiebreaker with these guys. winning this game would be a disaster with no benefit.

Disaterous!? No benefit!? That thrill of victory is priceless! I cherish that moment and will always be proud that the Skins came out victorious. Finishing in last place is never fun. I remember my coach always yelling as we finished up our mile runs, "Don't be last!" And those us bringing up the rear, who had pride would sprint those last yards to avoid being that last one coming in." How much is pride worth to you?
what, we're gonna feel great about beating pathetic Seattle with Tarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrvaris Jackson at QB? don't think so. it would be a worthless win.
A worthless win? Not in my book - no such animal! I am going feel good about beating any team. Felt great about whipping the then winless Rams who later whipped the Saints.

Last I checked, we have a worse record than Seattle and we only beat only one quality oponent, the Giants who they beat as well. They also beat the Cards and the Rams by more points than we did. Finally, they upset the Ravens.

It would be great to win in Seattle, a place where we don't win.

It would be great to see that the O has built on the momentum that it displyed last week

It would be great to see our players get up for a game.

Worthtless win? Not in my book.
if we're going to win any more games this year, let's upset a division rival or beat a really good opponent; we could feel good about that. beating Seattle? no way to care about that. must lose.
I get you here, you never want to lose to the any division rival under any circumstance, but why not wish to run the table all the rest of the games - a la 2005 and 2007. 9-7 won't get us in the play-offs and will give a suck draft position, but man, it would be fun to watch the Skins run off 6 straight victories than watching them run off 12 staright losses.
3-13! Suck and Luck is back on.
"Suck for Luck" "Whiff for Griff" "Losing Comes in Handy for Landry" "Playing Darkly for Barkley"

I get all that and if we lose, all of that softens the blow of losing. It softens the pain of being in last place.

Cut to the 2012 draft, If we finished 3 -13 for 2011 season. At that moment, yes, I will be happy that we finished 3-13, but at that moment, the 2011 season will have been what it was and done. At that point, we are looking to the future.

Today, there is hope to finish the season respectably. Today, there is hope to win.

To win or not to win? There is no question! "Just Win, Baby!" "You play to win the game!! AND as a fan, you want your team to just win, baby! You want your team just play to win the game! Let all the draft choice stuff settle itself itself on the field, fans pull for your team to win.

Not getting one of those top QBs does not guarantee doom. Just like getting one of them doesn't guarantee Super Bowl. Look at Dalton - a proposed 3rd or 4th round in the months leading up to the draft. We need to get the right QB, if it is one of those top guys great. If it is a sleeper like Cousins or Wilson then just as great.

+1 Not to mention that if we do get one of those top QBs, that definitely does not guarantee success. Excellent post. I want this team to win out the rest of the season (unlikely, I know) especially when it comes time for the playoffs and we have a chance at ruining another team's playoff run. Sadly, that's been my favorite part of the year for the past 5 or 7 years.

I flat out hoped to lose once in my life and it was to a hated opponent - the Raiders. At the time I thought we needed as many losses as possible to ensure Vinny's ouster. We lost and I was happy. Vinny is gone.

When the ball is kicked off this Sunday every good play by Seattle will piss me off and every good one by us will bring me joy.

The person who is in a tough spot is Shanny. The coach in him burns to win. The GM in him needs to think about the future.

Let's spank the Shehawks.

I am with you Red_One43.. I never want to lose. If you lose that many in a row it puts you into a funk that could take many games or sometimes years to over come. We lose enough as it is.

At our current pace, we can get a decent quarterback wherever we land in the first round of the draft. So I'd like to see us continue to turn things around as best as we can. The only way we're going to properly develop the youth and talent we already have is if we give it our all in these final weeks.

So, win. Always.

Win. Every chance. To fans -- to me, at least -- the season is not simply the playoffs or he superbowl. Every game matters, and every loss hurts.

Win.

Well said.

Just wanted to add, I don't have to see the team win every game - I just want to see them COMPETE. That Buffalo game a few weeks back was a complete embarrassment. The Cowboys game last weekend was a real game, and the team gave the kind of effort the fans deserve.

I agree... It wasn't as tough as the first loss w the world knowing it should be a game we lose to the pukes but instead it was ours to lose like the first. W all the injuries and new faces it wasn't so hard to swallow. I do believe next year we will be the beasts of the east bank it

i just don't see what kind of thrill or satisfaction there is in beating the pathetic Seahawks. whoopty-doo. if we're going to win again this year let's pull an upset against a division rival or NE or something. make it worth the ground we lose in the draft pick.

A win is a win, baby! That is why you play the game! We had six losses in a row, let's go for 6 wins in a row!

This season is DONE. There is nothing that can be gained by WINNING any more games. In fact they LOST a bit with with win today. The more they win the more difficult the offseason will be in terms of the utter gutting that this team needs.

Maybe because Misery loves company, and the Redskins are the most miserable, worthless sports franchise in the entire country? I can say that with some authority as someone who used to follow the Boston Red Sox, who the Redskins took the title from.

Nothing that can be gained by Winning? The Joy of winning is to be gained. For the owner of the franchise, more butts in the stadium stadium and more sponsors. For the team, since we aren't giving away the lottery to free agents, there needs to be a reason for free agents to join a team - winning games helps everyone.

Note to Redskin Fanatic - who hates the draft - whachutalkin' bout, Willis?
How can we lose a bit when you see the draft as worthless?

Second note to Willis when was the last time the Packers had a top 5 pick in the draft?

Winning brings no more joy to me than my car starting when I turn the key in the morning. It is the EXPECTED RESULT. If you're getting giddy over a win (other than the Super Bowl), your expectations are too low.

Sports are not about MONEY in my mind. They're about WINNING. If you're focused on the money, you're focused on the wrong thing.

If a free agent doesn't want to come to the team, so be it.

You have slightly overstated my opinion on the draft. The first 10 picks of the first round have a reasonable value most years. Especially for teams that need STARTING QUARTERBACKS. The draft is now an appropriate way to build the entirety of a team, but the first ten picks can be useful for acquiring high quality talent.

Wouldn't know and couldn't care any less. I don't follow the NFL as a whole, only the Redskins.

He's also GS-PODS and Redskin Hater 56 who the staff have vowed to prevent from coming back since they were both banned. Er...he was banned (at least) twice as. So he's not the only piker.

LOL. Are you STILL on that kick, KSF? Considering the way the staff responded to RH56, don't you think my account would have been banned as well if I was that same individual?

CT, what makes you think that I concern myself with whether or not any of you care about what I believe? Only 3 people on this planet that I care about.... ME, MYSELF, and I.
