The Redskins are GREAT at releasing players who go on and have BIG games for another team....!!!
Let's see 2 recents players:
1. Andre Carter, 4.5 sacks last night
2. Carlos Rodgers, 2 picks yesterday (he found his hands)
I know there are plenty more....who else guys...???

I don't know about big games he has had in particular, but Jason Campbell should never have been traded.

I agree - we should have cut him
it was better to trade him than to just let him go

Regarding Carlos Rogers, Ex Redskins players said yesterday that all Los did was get contacts this offseason. How/Why the Redskins didn't even get the dudes eyes checked is beyond me. Something SF did when he got there and he's not catching the ball all over the place.

You think trading picks for Donovan was the way to go? Do you think Rex or Beck are better than Jason? He would have been cheap to extend and worst case scenario would have been a longterm quality backup.

There is nothing that JCampbell can or will do that will change folks opinion on this site. Trust me, I've tried. He goes to Oakland and effectively runs the offense and he still sucks. Some folks say anything less than Rogers or Brady is unacceptable.

I tried to tell yall that Rodgers was good but....lol, I don't know why I wasted my breath.
Anyway, if contacts were the issue all along, Rodgers was at fault for not buying them.... #shrug

If his eyes have been bad his whole life, how is he to know that they are bad. It's all he knows. But I know when I get a basic physical every year, that's one of the first things the Dr checks. Sorry but that's on the team 1st in my opinion.

How about Brandon Lloyd! he scored more TD's yesterday that this team did. Heck even Haynesworth had 5 tackles yesterday, 3 more than Orakpo. Sean Suisham looks pretty good in Steeler nation too doesn't he?

in mentioning these players are you actually suggesting you wish we kept them?
Lloyd has been a bust for many teams not just us and was a distraction while here.. Haynesworth doesnt even need to be discussed and kickers are a dime a dozen..
The fact that a player is doing well with another team means nothing.. It happens all over the NFL.. its not just because of the Redskins and our coaching.. while it might be part of it this is not alone the reason for it
and as for Carter getting 4.5 sacks last night.. good for him.. but we were trying to get younger not older

I'm glad Andre Carter is doing well, but I don't get the point. He was not good here last year and clearly didn't fit the 3-4 defense. You can't really say "we shouldn't have let him go".
Carlos Rodgers made no secret that he didn't want to be in Washington, so I don't get that point either.

This original post was about players we let go. I pointed out the ones I thought of, however one can argue the point that had Shanahan who was NEVER KNOWN for defense left the 4th rated defense alone that would have allowed Carter to be in his natural position, whether Haynesworth would have been better is up for discussion, but he was brought here to play in a 4-3, and was arguably the best DT at his position. Let's also bring up Ryan Clark who still plays better than any safety we have on the roster year in and year out, we let Clark go and end up drafting a 1/2 deaf safety who is a liability in coverage! What a genious move that was huh?? And lastly we are younger now aren't we? Well how is working for us, cause it seems we can't even score a touchdown............................

Carter plays end right? I'd take Kerrigan over him but good for him doing well some where else.
THIS administration has cut bums and they are found to be bums else where or have signed no where. Portis Kelly Thomas worthless and mcnugget are a few doing nothing right now.
But good for ' los I think maybe he didn't give a crap about the redskins as a team he went for money found a team doing well and just plays harder. Doubt contacts are to blame as much as effort and pride. Maybe I'm wrong but it is what it is we have Wilson for cheaper doing just about as good as los ever did in the B&G.

The point is you don't fix what isn't broken, I don't call a 4th rated defense broken. But we have Mr. God Mike Shanahan who always had bad defenses in Denver come in and say hey...I am Head Coach\GM hear me roar! Let's blow up a 4th ranked defense, piss off our 100 million dollar player at that and go to a scheme that we have no players to play in, all while I'll let my imbecile of a son run the offense with no credible QB and a pourous at best line. And lastly the HOF QB that I traded for I will make him look like a fool too! Yippee aren't we great!!

Understood. BUT.
The reports are saying that he pleaded with the Redskins to have his eyes checked. That implies that he was aware that there was an issue. As someone who believes first and foremost in self-accountability, HE should have taken it upon himself to improve his eyesight.

Wow need a tissue? Are you dead serious right now or just still sour from the hangover of the L??
Our bend but break D was weak and cost us games every week 4th rated BLAH.. We needed to step it up in the sack pressure and TO departments to be competitive. With the right players and coaching this D will be faarrrr superior to the crap we had. Not to mention players that weren't in it for the team - your million dollar fluber who missed practice and napped on the field. We had a crap team that won a few games and our d was in no way better except maybe stopping the run.
I expect our current D with over half the starters in their fist year as a skin much less the system to get better and better. With JJ back next year and maybe a db through FA or draft we will be on our way to a fierce D. Leaving the rest of our picks and cap room to build the O.
Bottom line is we haven't been good for a long time and all the players we've LET GO...!!! Was probably because A. They are old B. They hate the skins and don't put forth full effort or C. They just flat out suck.
Some guys didn't work in the new systems and some just didn't work. I'm sorry but Zorn wasn't working we needed h real coach. And at that we needed to clean house coaches and players all alike. Not saying everything here is perfect but pushing the restart button is what we needed. New ideas a new plan and new people. Its gonna take time but if our O can catch up to our D w players and improvement we will be competitive. We only get so many picks and can't do it in one year..

I don't need a tissue, the points you make stink, we may have had a bend but not break D but this current D is a joke, it bends breaks and does whatever the other team's offense wants. Hell you want to look good play the Redskins and that joke of a DC Jim Haslett.
Where are our turnovers? Besides Beck and Grossman throwing picks? LOL! Where are our sacks? Orakpo 5.5 Kerrigan 5 and Carter has 9 so far and HE DOESN'T EVEN START! New idea's? Okay that one's a good one, bring Mr. Tan Man in blow up everything instead of gradually updating what already was working. Bend but don't break, it that like be on offense but don't score? What this inept offense does week in and week out, you can say what you want but this is year two, the roster has been overhauled to Shanahan's players. And what do we have but a another wasted year and moron's hollering stay the course, it will be different in another 4 years! Like the Republican's blaming Obama for the current economy knowing full well Bush F'd this country up long before Obama even thought about running. You can fool all of the people some of the time and you can fool some of the people some of the time, but Snyder, and Shanahan aren't fooling me NO MORE TIMES. It's miserable team's like this and the last 20 odd years that make it even worse, cause teams like San Francisco get 1 coach and they are good, watch year 3 and the DEADSKINS will still have apologists like you defending a already sinking ship. This Titanic has already hit the iceberg my friend, the question is with Snyder how many more icebergs will it hit until the masses no more keep padding Snyder's pockets, Snyder has done to the Redskins what he did to Six Flags, destroyed it..................

I'm sick and tired of all these "hind sight is 20/20" GMs. Sure the Skins have let a few players go, but for every one player they can name that we let go that worked out some where else I could name a dozen that we let go and they didn't do squat elsewhere.
Carter is a 4/3 DE, not a 3/4 OLB. You can argue we shouldn't have switched to a 3/4, but you can't argue letting him go wasn't the right thing.
Rogers' eyes have been a problem for years and BMitch used to tell him as much. The fact is, he didn't want to be here and left. He got a crappy contract and decided he needed to do something to change that.
You can't count B Llyode because he sucked for a coupled of years after he left before getting his head straight.
Wanted to keep Pierce and Clark, but under estimated their market value. Both left for marginally more money.
Walt Harris was injured and hadn't played well for years.
If someone really wants me to list a dozen meh players for every good player we let go I will, but EVERY team has a list of players they let walk that played well elsewhere. I doubt we are statically any worse with that regard than any other team.

I agree with u for the most part, except this. I think we're def on the bad end of that stick. We've been notorious for not growing/paying our own talent and overpaying for someone else.

Anyone that thinks
this franchise would be better off with some of these players that we've let go - staying the course of the last 12 years
OR - that we'd be better off if we had not "changed" from the defense or the guys we had here in 2008/2009
OR - that we'd be better off with Snyder running things here with another HC reporting to him as GM
DOESN"T HAVE A CLUE - GOT IT?
that is really not constructive
now - the fact that SOME of these players might have helped here is really great if you're into fantasy football or some other equally stupid way of wasting time
I do miss the Sonny & Billy Kilmer rivalry and their drinking exploits though

Best post yet, however you also failed to mention Riggo's drunken stupors, Theisman and Moseley's prostitute night romps during Superbowl week! It's funny back then you could drink have sex and perform. Now today you are a professional athlete, make millions and usually in the case of the Redskins fail to show up. I think the last true Redskin that showed up EVERY PLAY EVERY PRACTICE was Sean Taylor.
