First of all, anyone that would wear a purple bow tie has serious emotional problems. Even Lady Gaga isn't that fashion challenged.
Cooley has a valid point. But look at what we have gotten in coaches over the last, what?? 10 years - Turner, Spurrier, Zorn. This team keeps spiraling farther and farther into the septic tank.
Our head coach "staked his reputation" on our quarterbacks. He did that, he said that. Based on their production, his reputation is about as good as Al Capone s was for being law abiding. I agree that Shanahan deserves another year to make improvements. Note, I said improvements, not win the division. I do not see any improvement in this year over last year. If fact, it may be worse than last year.
At least there is one consolation, we cannot finish with a worse record than last year.[/u]

He really didn't. Shanahan went into this year knowing that we had mediocre QBs, but since there weren't better options (at a good price), he decided to spend this year trying to build a system. We'll see the Skins pick up a QB this next offseason.
He did that, he said that.
. . . to reporters. NFL coaches aren't exactly known for their willingness to give reporters the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

First of all (lol), stop lookin at what men wear, that's a female's job to study what we have on.
Second, he was actually dressed that way for Halloween. I forgot who he was supposed to be but it was said on the radio here in DC area.

This is what fans have always done for ANY NFL team. I live in the Baltimore area (unfortunately) and no matter what the Ravens record is, after one loss it's "fire the OC, bench the QB", etc. Every team that is struggling is going to have fairweather fans. There would still be people calling for Shanahan to be replaced if we were sitting at 5-2 right now.

I'm really glad you posted this. Like a lot of fans I've always liked Cooley, but his statement here was awesome:
“I’ve listened to everyone call in, and I’ve listened to everyone talk about our staff, and this is what I like about it,” Cooley said Monday on the LaVar and Dukes show. “Our fan base hates our owner, ok, because he can’t ever keep a coach, he’ll never keep players, he’ll never keep guys around, he changes it, it’s like a fantasy football team to him. But then everyone calls in and says we gotta get rid of Kyle Shanahan, we gotta get rid of Mike Shanahan, we gotta get rid of these players, we gotta trade Chris Cooley.
“So you criticize Dan Snyder for trading coaches and players every year and trying to do things every year, and then you call and say this is what we’ve got to do? I hate it. What we’ve got to do is keep consistency over a period of time, and continue to try to build, trust me, under Mike Shanahan, who knows football and knows players.”
So true. All we've heard for years is the fans saying they wanted smart coaches, GMs who would build the team the "right way". And of course now that Snyder is trying to do that, we've got idiot fans bitter that it can't be done in only a year and incensed that Shanahan hasn't been able to pull a franchise QB out of his back end.
Btw I thought it was funny that Cooley said this on the Lavar/Dukes. Chad Dukes was one of the most loud mouthed idiots calling for John Beck two weeks ago like Beck was Tom Brady in waiting and we couldn't win without him. I seriously heard Lavar yesterday talking about why they probably need to bring Rex back. Its no wonder DC fans think stuff like "if we just fire Kyle Shanahan we will miraculously start running the ball well..."

On point, my friend. On point. We've tried changing coaches, players, systems, schemes, etc. What we haven't tried is...consistency.

It's not clear at this point that we have smart coaches and GM, though. Yes, Mike Shanahan has two Super Bowl rings. However, since winning the SB in 1998, 13 years ago, Shanahan has won only one playoff game and in his last ten seasons with the Broncos won the division only once. And his record as GM/Coach is quite spotty in terms of the draft, free agency, etc.
No doubt he deserves a little more time, but let's not pretend that Shanahan has a proven track record of building football teams from the ground up as a GM/coach, because he doesn't.
