Our D .....is overrated

We all know our Offense is INEPT....
But our D is way overrated IMO.
Undisciplined LBs: Orakpo and others
Overreaching for the big hit: Landry
Whiffing on simple tackles: McIntosh
Non physical, scared to Lay the Boom: Hall, Wilson
Not enough PUSH up front: Cofield and crew
Lacking speed, Lacking Physicality
.....what did I miss???
Scheme my foot.....they NEED to execute, stay in gaps, and be physical.
ONE bright spot on the D is Fletch
I won't even start on the O (my goodness...!!!)

You forgot to mention that Kevin Barnes has yet to actually COVER anyone in any game that he's played in thus far.

I think the 2 drives after the 2nd chandler td our d came out pissed off.... I liked it. Our D has the potentil to be great. they just refuse to play at a high level consistently.

It's hard to play good defense when you're offense puts up 0-12 points a game.
Apparently it's even harder to get this through people's heads. You guys want this defense to hold opposing offenses to the same level of ineptitude that our own offense operates at... That's flawed logic.

x2 our D has been on the field to long the past couple of weeks to say they are over rated. If they play THAT much opposing teams will score. We have more picks fumbles and sacks this year at this time vs last all our additions have played well. We are a top ten D not the top d in the NFL.. Over rated? Nah
Our d line statistically is where they should be our LBs are good but ill give you that they need more discipline.
It takes a team to win if one piece is off it hurts the whole. Weakest O line ever = no run = no pa pass= no time in the pocket = 3 and out = d on the field all game = opponents will score when we are not = we lose games.
O line is where we are exposed killing the whole game both sides of the ball

Yes, and clearly our D is better then last year. They were horrible with the switch. We have better personnel then last year for the 3-4 and they have done some things better. But clearly they are not good enough to overcome our O that hangs them out to dry.

Goodness, 4 consecutive posts of common sense. Must be a record, or the kids are in school.

The logic is there and your response is inconsistent with the thread.....don't highjack it. There are a million and one threads about our INEPT offense....I needn't start another

-If you can't comprehend how one effects the other, I'll explain it to you.
-If time of possession doesn't make sense to you, ask someone, we can explain it to you.
-If the word fatigue is foreign and how it relates to the line above, I'll explain it to you.
-If the concept of playing with a lead from a defensive POV, doesn't make sense. Just ask me.
So sir, to sum this up. You cannot accurately depict the defense without honestly discussing how the offense contributes to their success or lack thereof. But, if you're goal is to be inaccurate, which is a common theme around here. I'll still be happy to "hijack" your thread with sprinklings of love, joy and common sense.

Yep. They're not overrated, because no one expected them to be great this year. The defense is not the issue with this team. No, it's not the 2000 Ravens, but it's not what's costing the Redskins games. We can win with this defense.

I agree with the last several posts in this thread. Our D is "overrated" compared to what? Last year they were pretty terrible. This year they've held opposing teams to within scores that give us an opportunity to compete.
We used to have zero pass rush. We've improved on that.
Our LBs are pretty good, but of course that unit's anchor is close to retirement.
Our secondary needs work. I'm convinced that Hall cannot be our #1.
So there are still plenty of holes. But overrated? I just don't see that. We knew that this unit was going to have problems going into the year. I'm just glad that the coaches bit the bullet and implemented the 3-4 last year, so that this year has that continuity going for it.

At least I think we can all agree that D Hall is highly overrated.

I have been mentioning in recent weeks that the mid range passes are killing us. I see a couple reasons for this.
1. Our corners play soft, they do a decent job but are not intimidating strong arm QB's.
2. Our LB's are not very good in coverage.
I think the solution is to bring in faster, maybe smaller middle LB's in the future. Obviously Jenkins injury hurt the inside rush greatly, but injuries happen and we have tried to adapt.

I wouldn't. I dunno where he's been highly rated to be considered over-rated. ESPN, SI, blogs all consider him a ball-hawk that's serviceable in coverage, which he is.

CLL,
I would agree with you if you weren't wrong about the defense. The defense may be somewhat tired because of the offense but they are mostly responsible for their own fatigue!
If your tired how about forcing a punt and get off the field!
How about not letting the other team score 20 before you decide to start playing?
Would multiple 3 and outs be too much to ask for in the first half?
How about not letting the other team's offense dominate ToP in the first half so our struggling O can actually keep to their game plan.
Last week was the first week were you could actually say the offense was responsible for the defense being on the field too much. The Carolina loss was 90% on the D! Think about it. The Panthers only punted THREE times all game and guess what our O only punted ONCE!
If the D was tired it was their own fault! Get off the field!!!
Even on the Bills game the D gave up long drive after long drive in the first half and guess what they did at the start of the second half, yep another long drive for a TD.
The Offense is certainly not doing it's job, but neither is the D.
I would agree with you if the D was stoning the other team's for most of the game but just got tired at the end! That isn't the case. They are being out played from the start.
They are as much to blame for this skid as the O is.

CLL - This is something I specifically remember you and I agreeing on for a while now. He has never been a highly rated corner for us, ever.

He hasn't been the DB he was in ATL but how many thousand years ago was that? He's a known quantity, so it shouldn't be a shock at this point. I'm more so getting at people calling him overrated. He is what he is, the feeling that he's overrated should be gone by this point.
I think he's a great DB IMO, not elite. I thought Carlos was good and he's proven to be good also. I was a Walt Harris fan, he went on to be killer after leaving here.
People still fail to put 2 and 2 together. Pass rush. Helps. The. Secondary. Very simple. We had a secondary that consisted of LL, Taylor, Springs, Rogers and they got beat, WHY?!?!?! NO PASS RUSH. You give that secondary the Ravens pass rush and you have a all-time defense.

Haslett has referred to Hall as an "elite cornerback". He may not nationally be overrated, but he's definitely locally.

Right, because his coach is going to call him "average"....

C'mon people, yall have seen enough football to know what "coach speak" is.

D Hall doesn't really help matters much either, the way he runs his mouth off before games and constantly gets burned (tauting Desean Jackson, Tomy Romo, etc).

All DB's talk trash, it comes with the territory. It's nothing new. They talk trash when they get beat. They talk trash when they're the person doing the beating.

The problem isn't the personnel this year on defense. We have upgraded in that area, although still have minor holes. The problem is the coach. Haslett is a terrible coordinator. No one will convince me otherwise.
