Jenkins Investing In Future Success

Yesterday, we discussed how injured defensive end Jarvis Jenkins was working hard to return to the gridiron, and offering support to injured teammates.
Today, we heard from defensive coordinator Jim Haslett about how impressed he is with the rookie’s commitment to return, by staying around the facilities.
“He’s still around. He’s in meetings. He’s working out,” Haslett said. ”He’s running up the steps today for me. He looks great. I think he’s gaining just because he’s in the meetings and paying attention. I love the way Jarvis prepares to play the game and the way he’s done his rehab.”
It’s no surprise that work ethic has been a concern with players in the past, something that quietly dug at Haslett last year.
“We’ve had a couple of guys here last year – a guy went on IR and we didn’t see him all year,” he said. ”He went home or whatever.”
Home is where the heart is, but rehab is best done at the facilities.
Part of the role that Jenkins has embraced during his time in rehab, is of a cheerleader and extra set of eyes. You would be hard pressed to find someone more excited to be a Redskins:

Probably someone not on this years roster. As improved as the D line's performance has been, I truly look forward to getting this youngster back on the field. As I recall, he was garnering even higher praise than Kerrigan in preseason and was looking to be a force to be reckoned with.

Money in the bank... he will be a terror...

With Fletcher, Orakpo, Kerrigan, Landry, Hall, Atogwe, and next year, Jenkins... this defense will be, not only loaded with playmakers... but team players, as well.

Makes you wonder if he could have possibly come back this year had we not put him on the IR.

Clinton Portis, Robert Henson and Chris Horton all left the DMV when they went on IR. Kareem Moore also left town after going on IR but didn't go on IR until late Dec. or early Jan.

No one comes back from an ACL/MCL that quickly... and no surgeon is goind to sign off on it. They had no choice but to send him to IR... and it was the right move.

Yes, it was being widely reported that the coaches, players, etc. were stunned, stunned by how good this kid was right away. I believe it was the Colts game that he was simply dominating against the starters.

I've said this before, that kid is going to end up being the steal of this draft, easily. The fact that Kerrigan has been as good as he is, is in my opinion the best gravy in the world. Jenkins will by himself dynamically alter how much of a force this defense is. Don't forget his primary locale on the line is right in front of Kerrigan.

this guy was a find in the draft i wish him a speedy recovery for next season

Actually Jenkins plays all three position on the defensive line (and looked good doing it) in the pre-season. He will give the D a whole new look once he's in the rotation. So we should include Centers, L Guards, and L Tackles

The 2011 draft class hasn't been a bad haul with all of them making the team. Neild, Paul, and Helu have all contributed this season in backup rolls. Gnomes and Hank are waiting in the winds... Hurt has moved up from the PS leaving three from his draft class there and I don't need to mention what Kerrigan has done as a rookie.

Jenkins can be considered a addition next year but will have spent the whole season in team meetings learning the small parts of the scheme, the same can be said for Royster, Robinson, and Thompson as 2011 draft picks going into 2012. As Bruce and Mike rebuild this team we'll see players step up that we've never heard of that fix Shanny's scheme perfect. Like Jenkins guys like Markus White (DE), Willie Smith (OT, Doug Worthington (DL), Eric Olson (OL) will push stop-gaps like Sean Locklear and Darrion Scott.
